So what does everyone here in the forum do for a living? (just very curious)

I notice that there are a lot of very smart sounding people on this forum. Lots of people who obviously know a thing or two about programming, economics, manufacturing, history, etc...

So what does everyone do for a living? I am just very curious...!

I am an archaeologist, hence the screen-name "the_real_indy". I did finance for a while, but now I am working on educational software platforms for world history and the social sciences.

    Kidding! I am just a boring software engineer and consultant. But it does pay the bills with almost no occasion for drama or conflict. So there's that. :)

    Web designer/developer. Personal/freelance stuff in PHP/MySql, my 9-5 job is all ASP.NET, mainly for Microsoft SharePoint, integrating with outside services via web solution packages.

    ^ Nah, he just made it technical sounding with the word choice. PHP is a programing language commonly used for websites. MySql is database software commonly used for websites. Often times you use PHP/MySql together. ASP.NET is a different programing language. Microsoft Sharepoint is software product that makes working on Office documents together easier. His main job is to make sure you can use SharePoint with other things it wasn't designed for by creating an online tool that bridges the other stuff and SharePoint. He uses ASP.NET to do this.

    We use MOSS as our content management system for our public-facing website, so it's not just sharing documents (though we have an intranet on Windows Sharepoint Services which we utilize in the intended way). My integration has been with a legacy database that was originally used by our Coldfusion environment (another scripting language/server). Recently I've been rewriting what I created to integrate with Avectra, the "Association Management System" we're migrating to next week.

    Software Engineer, Technical Writer.... first AFOL.... LEGO Sets/Parts History publisher... dabble in history and architecture... although I live in the states, born in Germany (in Coburg, the most British of all German cities...), spent 3 summers at Oxford... certificated by the British Standards Institute... knighted by the Queen... no I tell a lie... I only spent part of 3 summers at Oxford... and was not knighted by the Queen... told I had to be a citizen of the Commonwealth... :-( Dang it, I knew we should never have had that tea party and all the unpleasantries that culminated at Yorktown....

    P.S. Never take yourself too seriously! LOL... ;-p

    Another "techie" here!

    Software engineer - mostly C# - working on product configuration/ordering systems for a large manufacturing company.

    I also am an adjunct IT instructor for a local technical college and a father of three young children who I use as an excuse for spending time with LEGO. :)

    Work in the Theatre as one or all of the following at any given time: Designer, Technical Director and General Scenic/Lighting Technician. Also do production/rehearsal photography as well as headshots for actors.

    I fund my Lego addiction (because as much gratification and joy as I personally get out of my work we all know the arts don't pay much in terms of actual dollars and cents) by selling former addictions on eBay and snagging as many deals on there as I can and stretching my funds via bricklink to finish sets I buy from lots...

    I work in an international church in Hong Kong, www.thevine.org.hk heading up the music, media, web and graphics side of things, along with pastoring some of the congregation. Before that, I was a lawyer who did freelance web design to get through law-school.

    Working for a church certainly doesn't bring in the mega-bucks, but I'm blessed with a wife who has a well paid job and who likes the Modular series, the rest I have to buy myself!
