Yeah...it's hard to believe you can still find stuff. I have 3 WM (in Iowa) and even since the 26th I still stop by once a week and find 2-3 clearance items on shelves. Just yesterday I went to my local WM and found 2 Ninjagos, Recycling Truck and some Friends. They also had some new items (Log Cabin) that where new to the store but still rang up full price (29.97).
Has anyone else noticed their WM getting in Friends sets at higher prices?? This store had 5-6 Olivias Houses (74.97) and Adventure Camper (34.97) and Heartlake Vet now $44.97.

I think it might be time for the admin to change this post to January clearance.

^Or how about just "Welcome to the Jungle"?

I was at a Wal-Mat about a half hour away yesterday. Picked up a few pod racers for $34.50 and a few recycling trucks. They had a Joust on the shelf, but in my haste, I forgot to scan it. It's been bugging me since. Has anyone seen a Joust on the shelf? If so, did you scan it? Just wondering. I find myself wanting to take my lunh hour just to go check and put my mind at ease....
  • Pacific493Pacific493 Member Posts: 379
I haven't seen Joust in any WMs, but have seen two 10xxx sets. One was on sale (the VW Bus), the other was not (Death Star).
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^^ Most likely the Joust is at full RRP. I've never found an online return to be otherwise, although obviously someone has before. Given the high chance of it being full RRP I don't see the risk/reward.

Always amazed at what I see in the aisles at WM (even though I shouldn't be). This was just today. Mostly returns or opened items...

Quinjet - Taped back together with the flaps of the box taped wrong. It had so clearly been opened it was a joke. Picked it up and all the pieces rattled around inside. It was definitely LEGO in there (maybe), but who knows what. No bags by the sound of it.

Mines of Moria - 3. All opened. 1 BOX WAS EMPTY!!! Just an empty box on the shelf. I looked around to see if there was a trail of LEGO I could follow.

Batmobile and Two-Face Chase - Pieces spilling out of the box.

Jabba's Palace - Opened and retaped. Whatever was rattling around inside was not LEGO. Sounded like someone had filled it with marbles.

I'm all for loose return policies, but come on WM. You're not even trying.

^ I agree there. I don't remember what set it was but when I was at a WM last weekend there were 2 of a set that I thought might be on sale (think it was vampire castle) and I picked one up to take it to the scanner and it felt light from what I'm used to so I compared it to the other one and it was like half the weight. When I looked at it the seals on one side werent even the lego tape it was just masking tape. I walked out of that WM without looking at anything else.

Based on my experience, I would concur with this...I forgot to mention in my last post that the VW Bus that I found on sale had been sitting at the WM where I found for 6 months or more, and was probably a store-specific markdown.

Walmart's site said that my store had the new 2013 sets in. So I went there today and nothing(was gonna pick up an A-Wing), they must be in the back somewhere ready to be put on the shelf(gonna check again after work tomorrow).

I did pick up a Creator Log Cabin for $21. It was the last one and for some reason it had a yellow sticker that said "$21 was $29.96" underneath. Usually I just see either a red sticker or a RedWhite tag hanging outside the shelf.

#6869 at $45 at my local Wally.

Had about 15 of them on the shelf. Could they go lower maybe? or good enough value as is?

Went to a WM today and saw two discounted sets. Based on being only the one of each set on the shelf, I looked closely at the seals and it was clear that these sets were tampered with.

The Lego company needs to improve the packaging.

If one can tell a set has been opened and re-sealed, the current packaging works in that regard. It seems the problem is the employees that take returns and those re-stocking the returns.

Found many sets at 50% clearance this morning. 4 unique SW sets (#7914, #7956, #7957, #8092), and the ambulance (#4431) and Ninjago Jay's Storm Fighter (#9442).

If you bought those at the New Hope Church WM in Raleigh, check the #9442 closely. I returned one that had been opened and resealed.

yep, that's where I got them from. I took a look inside the set since the box was halfway open... saw what looked to be most of the figs in their bags so I took a shot. Did you notice that it was "light" or thought it might be missing figs/parts?
  • JCoolJCool Member Posts: 47
I'm still shocked the PotC sets were still ringing up at full price.

^ I'm still shocked that people can find QAR and BP sets at retail stores. I would clear them even at RRP.

No, I just saw that it had been opened and returned it on that basis.

  • JCoolJCool Member Posts: 47
Ahh, ok. Yeah I'll have to inspect it more carefully. The Sith Nightspeeder was halfway open but I just checked and it's got all the parts and figs.

The only PotC sets were the Captain's Cabin and the Fountain of Youth sets. didn't see any others and already had gotten those for discounts long ago.

I checked a Walmart today that I rarely go to. I found 3 pod racer sets ( #7962 ) for $34. I only picked up one set because I dont like it enough to own more then one. I was surprised to find Whitecap Bay ( #4194 ) for $54....box is perfect. The Space Shuttle ( #3367 ) for $14... 3 Clone Trooper battle packs ( #7913 ) for $6 each....one Ninjago spinner pack ( #9569 ) for $5....and 6 packs of series 6 CMF's for $1 each....not too bad. I did see one Rubublic Frigate but it was all busted and taped up so I passed. They also had 6 of the Star Wars Malevolence for $80 each...I just dont like it enough to pull the trigger on it. It was also the first time I saw the Chima display box with all of the sets built. They look good but I really think the big hit will be that aligator ship...looks sweet

Can't believe you guys are still finding things! It must be stores out in the boonies. :) I was just trying to find just one landspeeder with no luck. The store by me even had an inventory count of 6 but nowhere to be found.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
Out of all of the stores I have chcked since Christmas I have yet to see a Black Pearl or Landspeeder...not even for full price. That Whitecap bay was the first POTC set I have seen.

You haven't seen any Landspeeders??? I picked up a bunch of them and left a bunch behind. They weren't as common as some other sets, but I thought they were pretty easy to find.

  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
Only Landspeeders i saw were the ones in the Ewok attack set....lol. I did find 4 of the Darth Maul tie fighter set for $27 but passed. Looking back and knowing what I know now I am kicking myself for not grabbing them. I have 13 WM's in a 22 mile radius from me. I have checked out all but three. I have seen Jabba's set but never on sale and never saw any Hobbit sets on sale either...all have been full price....except for one Helms deep that i found found for $89. I'm actually really surprised at the amount of stuff i'm still finding on sale.

I think my local Wal-Mart made a mistake. After Christmas, they send the clearance toys to Lawn & Garden for a few weeks. We were in the store tonight, so I just went over to see if anything was left. 2 weeks ago, it was all just the city vehicles and Weathertop (which I got).

Well, tonight they had Hobbit sets. These haven't even been out that long!

    Bag End was $40
    The Goblin King was $50
    Mines of Moria was $54

Goblin King was the only one I didn't have, so I snatched it up. I may go back and get Bag End just to put back. It's a beautiful set. I'm now short only the Barrel Escape from having all the LOTR and Hobbit sets.

They also had the Bat Cave for $49. And the Friends Butterfly Beauty Salon for $17.

They had a large Ninjago set and the QuinJet set, but they weren't marked down. Yet. Will go back tomorrow and check and probably pick up my 2nd Bag End.

I was at a particular WM on Monday and they had lots of Friends sets, 6 Olivias Houses, 6-8 Heartlake Vets, 8-10 Adventurer Campers. I stopped in today because I was next door, and all of them were wiped off the shelves. I asked the woman reorganizing the shelves and she barked at me that all clearance Legos are gone!! I almost jumped back in her face to ask her what her problem was. She was rude. But another employee that overheard my question said they clearanced out a bunch of stuff again on Wed. Oddly enough the Friends Legos were only in the store less than 2 weeks.

Clearance nearing zilch but I was able to pick up a Destiny Bounty, head sorter, and T-Rex Hunter for half off. Spoke with an employee in the toy aisle about a possible next clearance but she did not know. Last year was great for Lego clearance.

Managed the Architectures at half off and the elusive Cole's Tread Assault for 30% off @ Target. Those Architectures are overpriced even at half off, I hesitated for a moment on picking them up.

    Hello

I’m in North Florida and I have been reading this forum for the last 4 month, checking news and deals on Legos originally for my son now for both :).

Like most here I found SW, LOTR, City and Ninjago at a discount between Targets and Walmarts, but last night looking for deal I notice something odd. I went to a Walmart that had the clearance set and when I scanned Weathertop it was back to regular price. I decided to visit another Walmart and the same thing happened this time not only Weathertop but Hemls Deep as well as Jabba’s Palace.

Both Walmart have done their reset of the toy aisle and have reorganized their toy department. All the clearance stuff was moved somewhere else except those set that were originally marker down.
I just wanted to share this info with you. If you are thinking about returning keep this in mind.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I have been noticing the same thing...as they clean up and restock the isles some of the sets are returning to normal...but I have found restocked items that were not at the store before....The pod racers....with tags for full price but scanned at 50% off....just have to make sure to scan all the sets you want.
  • MrVEPMrVEP Member Posts: 5
Yes I scan everything I see.
I learned here to always scan and don't go with the shelf tags. I scan all three, well not Helms Deep per se I do have a photocopy of the UPC bar in my wallet. That's how I found set 79002 on sale at one Target.

They had only 2 Hobbits set Goblin King and that one, I notice that GK was marked at an even $100, which I knew was wrong then I saw the other with no tag on the shelf. I went and scan both, to my surprise GK was indeed $100 but 79002 was $24.98 :)
Oh I walked out of that Target with one big, ear to ear, smile on my face.

So I'm in Longmont CO and they have some nice ninjago if anyone cares including at least 2 epic dragon battles and the final battle or whatever. They're all retail but I believe they are sought after and I've never seen them. I'm a SW guy but man hey look pretty fun actually. I can see why they are popular. They also had galaxy squad or whatever, and new city stuff too. I guess he high times are over.

Went to Walmart this morning on Red Bank Rd. in Cincinnati, Ohio, and they had a few Batcaves for $49. They had a bunch of Millenium Falcons at retail price, and one Quinjet still at retail price(wish I could have found it for $20 like some).
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ One of my WMs had a few Falcons out too at RRP that they didn't have out before as well. Didn't look like returns so they mustve just had them in the back.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
Mine got restocked with Falcons and the new battle packs all at full price but it got two pod racer sets in...not returns... and they were 50% off....never did see any of the Hobbit stuff on sale in my region...
  • wagnerml2wagnerml2 Member Posts: 1,376
I hit one of my regular WMs today. Found a Jabba's Palace that was opened at $79 GOt an additional 10% back (looked like all the MF were there, so I thought I'd take a chance).

Hit a WM that was out away from the CIty today too. THey had the Ghost train at $57. Let 6 of them sit.
  • wagnerml2wagnerml2 Member Posts: 1,376
My regular also had new Falcons at RRP. New stock, not returns.
  • odshowtimeodshowtime Member Posts: 49
Yep there were new falcons in that Colorado walmart as well. I didn't expect to ever see those in a store ever again.

  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
Yeah, thought they were gone too. Usually these type of sets have a typical 2 year cycles. i.e. TT, RG, AT-TE, etc . . . But like we've seen lately, Lego is really extending the life of their sets right now.
  • Pacific493Pacific493 Member Posts: 379
I think that 7965 is still within a normal 2 year life cycle. IIRC, the set came available in the summer or fall of 2011, which means that it's only been out about 1.5 years max. With the other large SW sets that are apparently planned for later this year, I would expect this to go EOL next X-Mas.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
oh, ok, I was a little bummed I didn't pick up more.
  • Pacific493Pacific493 Member Posts: 379
You'll have more time and if we're lucky, they'll be on clearance at WM at the end of the year.
  • ShpadoinkleShpadoinkle Member Posts: 420
Sorry, I can't resist posting this here...My local walmart has been very, very good to me in the last year in regard to sales and clearance. Then today this turned up sitting on the floor next to the price scanner...
