ANY WORD WHEN #30213 WILL ARRIVE IN NORTH AMERICA? WILL IT BE A TOYS R US ONLY POLY?

    Shhh. Calm down, no need for CAPS.
    Based on the sellers location, it is quite possible, but this guy apparently has no idea what the secondary market is like. This should actually be moved to the Ridiculous Auctions section as he has it up at $200 per poly.

    According to the auction, you get 10 polys for $199, there are 3 lots availalbe. Still a rip off, but at least its a bit better

    Thanks for posting the auction link. I think that's very reasonable, even if they do at some time become giveaways. I'll probably buy the two for that price.

    Yes, thanks for the link. Picked up a set. I'm not usually up for hunting for polybags or meeting the buy requirements to get them, so these are a reasonable enough price for me to know I have them.

    Yes, they're at TRU.

    Also, if the caps lock is stuck, hold down the shift key for non-caps. :-) Annoying, but it works.

    I'm not sure I see the point of this one. I know it is a poly, so poly collectors will want it. But it's a minifig that has been in the cheapest LOTR set for six months. And he is coming in another couple of Hobbit sets. Surely if someone wants a little set, they would go for (or have gone for) Gandalf Arrives. If he was white on the other hand ...

    ^ Yeah, I'd imagine that is a tiny market though. I could understand it if they brought this out as a LOTR poly at the start of the line to get people interested as advertising so they know the line is out - although they did that with Frodo in July. For example, Frodo polys were available in TRU in the US (although even that was a little late), so people would know LOTR Lego was coming out. I just don't get who'd buy it, apart from the poly collectors. If they were 40p or 50p with the Sun, sure I'd get a few to make them generic wizards, but I couldn't see myself paying £3-4 for this when the minifig is available elsewhere in a very cheap set with a horse and a decent little build (the cart).

    Whereas uruk-hai, orcs or Rohan soldiers I can understand it. They would fly off the shelves in large quantities. Even better if they did a Gondor soldier as a poly, but now I am dreaming ...

    I was at a TRU yesterday in San Jose, CA and they did not have either of the Hobbit polybags.

    For me, it's completing the set. Just came out of my dark ages and have limited what I'm going to collect. Among that is all LOTR and Hobbit releases.

    I have Gandalf Arrives, but I might pick this one up anyhow, if I run across it for retail price. I don't collect polybags in the sense of leaving them closed, but if a polybag comes with decent elements, I find it hard to resist. An extra Gandalf figure gives me an old man face for mix-and-match minifigs, a nice sword for my Castle guys, and I like the little rock formation I see in the pic.

    Probably wouldn't have been my first choice for a LOTR polybag character, but not my last, either.

    ^ true, but in essence, it lacks the appeal of other army-building polys. The figure and bricks it contains also are not deemed as rare to justify a lasting-hype if anything.

    ^ Thinking about it, maybe this is why Lego bring out such a poly. Lego don't sell these (well, LDCs do, but not Lego stores), but places like TRU do in the States. They are often placed near an entrance as well as near the Lego aisle. If they were an army builder, they would never have any stock, so would not work as advertising. Whereas if there is a less popular character (in terms of multiple sales), then there will be stock so people will see it when they enter. So maybe it is a good marketing decision to have Gandalf.

    ^ Ah, you're thinkiing of the row of numbers at the top of the QWERTY keyboard, which is affected by Caps Lock. @Atkinsar is referring to the separate NUMPAD keyboard (to the right of this on most desktop keyboards), which is affected by Num Lock, not Caps Lock.

    I'm guessing, from this, that you mostly use laptops?

    (oh, and to get back on topic, I'm really looking forward to the Gandalf poly coming over to the UK, hopefully for the next Sun Promo giveaway; like @Styer, I can see a lot of use for the elements in other constructions, and I really like the beard. ;-).

    Interesting (well, not really), Caps Lock key normally only applies to letters, whereas the Shift Lock key applies to all keys including numbers. However, apparently on German keyboards, Caps Lock acts like Shift Lock, so there you go.

    @atkinsar and @carlq I am very surprised. Indeed, the Caps Lock behavior indeed changes between English and German keyboard layout. Who'd have though...

    Eh yes, back to topic: Where do all these Gandalfs come from?

    My fingers are crossed for both Gandalf and Mirkwood elf polybags on the Saturday and Sunday of the first weekend of the next Sun promo! Both have some useful parts and I actually still need a Gandalf for my Fellowship: I never really fancied the Gandalf Arrives set and got the Frodo from it in the last Sun promo.

    Have they ever run it over the February half term?

    ^ The Sun has always been May and October. The Mirror did one in March once IIRC.

    Edit: Just checked: It was 3. and 10. December, #30055 and #30014. So is there hope? :)

    Now whilst this is obviously fervent speculation the Hobbit does actually come out here in the UK on December 13th so from a marketing persepctive a giveaway about then could make some sense....This is how rumours start!

    Let's just add a few of the most common sentences written on brickset for good measure:

    "I would buy The Sun and LotR Lego if we got those polybags. I know a couple of people who would buy The Sun and LotR Lego if we got those polybags. The Sun, WHSmith and Lego could make easy cash by releasing those polybags. Things would sell by the million! Gazillion people want this. No more market research necessary. It makes total sense if Lego and The Sun and WHSmith are doing this. It is a no brainer. There is no better way to advertise this movie."

    Therefore, it is going to happen.

    I commented on the related News posting but 30213 is available for $3.99 at Toys "R" Us and includes 31 pieces. Gandalf appears to be the same as in 9469 Gandalf Arrives.

    I assembled 30213 tonight and the only surprise part was Part number 4294148. It's on the 'back' side of the rock-looking thing.

    It's neat but compared to 30212, it just seems lacking.
