Seriously apologize for the poor quality pictures, I had no idea this was the first time they have been seen. I may return tomorrow and buy them to take better pictures and review them. But here they are in all their Bug Glory!

Wow! Didn't expect Canada to be the first to get any LEGO set. I'll check my local store. But $99 is quite expensive for a 711 pcs set.

Look cool, I wonder what prices will be without the TRU mark up. I love the orange helmets

Appears I made a typo, the second set number is 70705 not 4. Can the mods update that for me? Thanks

TRU Canada does not mark up their LEGO, but it is the holiday season so they might start, if they haven't already. :(

WANT. I'm in MN, it'd be awesome if someone could snag the small one for me :P

^ TRU Canada does mark up their Lego... and it actually wasn't all that long ago that they started. Take a look at the Lord Of the Rings set prices:
    http://www.toysrus.ca/family/index.jsp?categoryId=13002406

Toys"R"Us is becoming a disgusting place. I looked at a Canadian Tire flyer and they were advertising 20% off their stock of Starwars sets! Now if a store like Canadian Tire, who only orders small quantities for a limited time of the season, can afford to discount Lego sets AND STILL make a profit... can't a store like TRU, who ordering several 0 digits more Lego, afford to do better? So why has there been year long sales of only 20% off in Canada? Why does TRU decide to mark up certain Lego themes? We all know the answer. It's because people will keep buying Lego from them anyway. Screw the rest of us.

I didn't notice the 2013 City until you mentioned it! I'm even more excited.

Well, the bug stuff looks cool, as do the human and robot soldiers. Nothing immediately jumps out at me, but neither am I turned off by anything. Space is my favorite theme, so I hope the Lego designers have cooked up something awesome for the other sets yet seen (as well as for future waves).

Red and clear canopies, jay! Not bad for a space theme.

    Note the female trooper!

70700 reminds me of Atlantis, just that now the bugs have got the vehicles. Very similar colour scheme too. Then again, it is also very similar to AC. They could easily have called this "Alien Conquest 2. Man Fights Back."

Looks epic, finally get to see the galaxy squaddies. My one prob: they're not wearing the armor that was first released with the Galaxy Patrol figure. Sad face :(

These look cool! Although, I notice I think that of most new LEGO sets; let's see how amazing I think they look when they are sitting around on the shelves month after month...

I'm surprised at this too. I totally expected them to reuse this piece. My initial reaction is 'mission to mars' or whatever it was called, which IMO looked hideous. If this had been space marines I'd have been tempted.

I loved the Insectoids theme as a kid, so these are really tickling my nostalgia bone!

Not only did I immediately note her, I like how on that bottom right corner, they really 'featured' the troopers, including her. :-)

I wonder if this will be a new element on box design. I know they have previously had the minifigs on the top of the boxes, but to have them prominently displayed in a corner, it seems like it is another way to really sell the boxes.

Yes, it does have some of the Atlantis/AC look. I will need to see more of the sets, but if the insects come across as more alien than insect, this may be a winning line over here. If they are too insect like, it may be a dud.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,551
^ In fact, it looks a bit like the HP box below it, just replacing the real people with minifigs in a prominent position.

Here it is, the holy grail. I went back and purchase set 70700 and low and behold inside the instructions was the pictures of all the sets. I've also uploaded tonnes of pictures of the complete set and Minifigures of 70700 and More pictures of the Box art for 70705 so check out my Flickr.

    #70704 doesn't look too bad. Thanks a lot @CupIsHalfEmpty!

I like how each set has different coloured troopers, and as @tamamahm said with the figs featured in the corner of the box-art they really help give the figs an identity, rather than just generic grunts.

Not too enthused about the alien vehicles, but the human ones look like they have some cool play features, and quite swooshable.

@CupIsHalfEmpty, you're the best pessimist ever! Thanks for the preview, need to go look at the city sets, missed that!

Looking at the pics you put up... the 1x2 plate with the technic pinhole above it... are those new? the two printed tiles in that set are awesome (the hexagon display control panel and the mouth of the alien ship)

It's such a shame they didn't make the galaxy patrol armour in matching colours.

^Yep. Some nice elements to it, although reusing the galaxy patrol armour would have been much better. Not reusing the AC blue would have helped too.

Are we assuming this to be a one and done series like AC? It has that feel and look to me. Perhaps its heading more down a related releases route - ADU on earth last year, these guys in space fighting insect aliens now. Perhaps next year similar good guys but fighting a blacktron style enemy. All black with black GP armour or the robot(?) armour above would be awesome.

To me the spaceships (subs in atlantis) are always the best parts and the creature like vehicles pretty rubbish. With a blacktron enemy we could double up on the good and eliminate the bad.

Yes that's new I'm pretty sure. And looks SUPER useful!

@cheshirecat is it adu blue (dark azure in bl colors IIRC)? @CupIsHalfEmpty is it regular blue or one of the many blue shades we all enjoy?

@caperberry i was thinking that... I wonder if they'd click neatly onto the male side hinge brick
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
^True, perhaps I was too quick to judge that. Perhaps it is a lighter blue.

I do like the different colours though - harks back nicely to the classic space and futuron days.

Love these new sets - very stoked to get my hands on them :) It's gonna be another pricey LEGO year for me!
  • AanchirAanchir Member Posts: 3,043
As far as I can tell, the colors are Bright Red, Dark Azur, Bright Green, and Bright Orange. Nice spread of colors IMO. I know a lot of people might have preferred Bright Blue and Dark Green (classic blue and classic green), but it's neat to see how the sets are making use of these rarer colors. Bright Green is underappreciated IMO, and I'm glad it's been showing up so much more often than it used to in the past couple years.

Is it just me, or is that red-headed, big-eyed robot (see image) in #70702 just a mechanical Admiral Ackbar? :)
