Vending Machines: 8191 and others?

Hi there,

Recently I saw "8191" in store, and while I'm generally against the theme [Those poor lava creatures minding their own business, having their lava stones stolen] I did notice there is a pretty cool looking drink vending machine in the set. I downloaded the instructions and its a little unclear on how it works.

Does it work like a proper vending machine in that the "bottle" is in the machine, and pushing the money brick in triggers the release OR does it require a person to physically drop the bottle thru the machine?

Are there any other proper vending machines in lego land [other than the ATMs]

Thanks in advance.

There is a vending machine in last year's airport, but I think it's just a cupboard that you open. I'm as interested as you are about the Power Miners one.

I've just had a look in the instructions, and had come to the conclusion that pushing the money in lets the 'bottle' out, when I thought to have a look at the back of the book, and sure enough - it's listed as a 'play feature' - Now to build my own...

I built it some time ago and, as far as I can remember, it holds one bottle which is dropped when the money is inserted in the slot.

I've looked at the instructions again, since I'm not going to build it right now, but the bottle is held in place at the window of the machine, supported by one of the L-shaped beams.
When the money is inserted, it pushes the pair of connected L-shaped beams back in an arc, since they are attached to the red technic brick by a single peg.
That allows the bottle to drop.

I just gave this a go. It's brilliant! it holds two cans - pushing a paper bill (2x1 tile) into the slot pushes the lever back and releases a can.

    thanks for pointing it out.

(instructions here if anyone wants to try it: http://cache.lego.com/bigdownloads/buildinginstructions/4584885.pdf)

I just built in on LDD - The link is here http://filejumbo.com/Download/6DD5B2B4B24DAD2E
Obviously the 'play feature' won't work on there, but I intent to build it for real soon.

You know, I saw this feature on the set and thought it was neat. I never thought to build it on my own until you mentioned it here. I think I will now. Thanks!

    Minor Bump.

Other than the airport ATM mentioned, does anyone know of any other vending machines?

OR would it be straight forward to build one from scratch that is a lot larger?

They're not TLG sets, but Brick Builders Pro have a couple of pretty cool custom vending/cooler sets to buy - www.brickbuilderspro.com. Their little sets are always choc full of detail...
