@gmpirate - I've seen those instructions, but the seller never responds when I ask whether the necessary elements are catalogued (similarly to what LEGO does at the back of their manuals) to make gathering the necessary parts less of a chore. I'm sure I don't have enough pieces to build even one of those trees (though you're right... they do look pretty amazing).

That same seller has instructions for a fairly nice looking Hoth set, as well (why LEGO still hasn't designed a shield generator is beyond me.

^ perhaps because the shield generator is 4 big lumps that have no play value? that's a lot of pieces (and money) tied up in something that really adds nothing to a playset.

@dougts - I don't know... they could rig it to 'explode' a la the shield bunker. All the AT-ATs have to have something to go after.

Though, admittedly, there are a lot of Star Wars OT elements I'd like to see that probably have little to no play value.

@y2josh - the problem is, all those OT elements appeal to AFOLs, which isn't a large enough group to make sets for like you're thinking.

I agree with you completely, I'd love a Hoth base complete with ION cannon and power generator, but they won't do it because kids don't care.

^ I respectfully disagree. If TLG can rationalize making that Death Star II or the heap of a mess Cloud City, they can make me a UCS Hoth/Yavin/Mos Eisley/etc. Now, where's the petition so I can sign? ;o)

I suspect that DSII was actually not that expensive to make, just a bunch of gray bricks. SSD probably doesn't cost all that much to make either, probably half the price of DS to make. Maybe, maybe not, but it must be less.

A proper UCS Hoth would cost a ton of make... Give it 5,000 bricks, ion cannon, power generator, command room, a pair of mini-AT-AT walkers, all the mini-figs (I could see 30 easily), the snow speeders, transport, mini-X-Wing and Falcon, etc...

The various parts, the complex built and need for the various parts bags, the lack of repeats... Would be an expensive set to make and produce...

Would I buy it? At $499, yes, at $599, which is the price they probably would need to charge... Meh, maybe, maybe not...

Ok, I would, but how many of "me" are there in the world? ;)

^ at least two of us. Is that enough for Cusoo..Cuusoo...Cousuu...Cousteau?

^ at least 3! :o) Would prefer more larger sets at $600 than dozens of meaningless ones at $20.

OK may be a silly question, and I know that its not 'totally' relevant to Brickset as it is about MOC'ing.
But why not start a collective effort to design/build these UCS Hoth/Jabba Palace/etc that we all would love? We seem to have some seriously talented individuals here, surely with some collaboration it could work? No?

@princedraven, a grand idea. Lets hear more on this :)

Ok maybe start small. Every time there is any Hoth based sets, one thing that is always asked for (and never given) is a Shield Generator (decent reasons why TLG never release this above but we still want one!). Anyone fancy taking a stab at creating one in LDD that they are happy to share so that others could tinker and possibly improve?
Then once a finalised version is agreed on, we all could build our UCS Shield Generator (ok UCS Sheild Generator was a bit tongue in cheek, but you get what I mean).

Sorry, way off topic here, just realised, if this takes off can an Admin split this, if not just let it die :)
