Is it just me or does anyone else find the idea of a re-release redundant and/or pointless? I'd rather see an entirely knew set come out. Every set has it's time and that is how it should be. it takes away from the novelty of each set when a re-release is made. I love castles alot but preserve the past and move forward with new ideas. I'd love to see a real kings castle....at least twice the size of the last. Maybe something in the neighborhood of 2000+ pieces and large baseplates with an honest-to-goodness courtyard.

@iancam33 A set that size would be really cool but the price tag would not be. 2000 piece set would be $250-$300 and that excludes alot of younger kids and a few not so well to do adults.

As for re-releasing an older set I have no problem with that and I would actually like to see this happen. Im not saying re-release the last castle that was just done in 2010 or even the Knights II which were from 2000-2005 ish, I am saying lets go and bring back ones that the new generation prolly have never seen or even know about. The 78 Yellow castle is a great model with lots of play potential especally with some new details added. The 85 6080 castle is the first grey castle and has quite a bit of playability. My son has one that is just the castle and a few pieces are the wrong color but that set gets a ton of play time from him, I played with mine all the time and when I bought the yellow castle from a friend's son who grew out of his legos I kept that built until I joined the Navy in 2001 and I only broke it down to store it in the rest of my lego box. So do I think that the older castles would have some appeal to kids and AFOL today, yes I do. I dont want to see a re-release to be identical to the former but the same basic shape and design, new details and new figs and you have a great "new" old set.

But until TLG releases the photos we will never know. I tried to get some more information about the sets comming out but all I could get was, one set will be re-issue and the rest are new. I asked about the names as well but he said he didnt have any information other than what he said... I think they know more than they are telling us. A Lego rep slipped to me that new castle sets were comming back in october so...

If your source and the list are both correct, then the re-issue must be the King's Castle. But would it be the older #6080 (which I got for XMas in 1984 and still have, recently rebuilt) or the more recent #7946 which might fit in better with the theme if they are picking up where they left off.

I doubt they would re-release a castle that was only just retired 3 months ago. I am hoping for the 6080!!

I can't remember where I read this now, but the semi-inside information we have seen on this theme previously said that it would be 4 new sets and 1 set that was a new take on an old classic. I took that to mean a complete redesign/overhaul of a classic castle set, and not just a reissue.
  • Dread_PirateDread_Pirate Member Posts: 184
Yea that was earlier in this thread. I was told in Oct that the new castle was going to be compatable with the set that was just retired so you can connect them to create a larger castle. Then a re-issue and some new sets as well. Not totally sure what order is going to be what but we will see as they are supposed to be available in spring... I hope!

The haunted house shows Lego can produce a large scale set for an existing line. A castle in that scale and price point would be a great set.

True, but that was D2C and none of the set numbers we've seen for this upcoming line suggest D2C sets. Which isn't to say there can't be one, but it wouldn't be any of the sets we know of so far.

I dont think any of the castle sets will be an exact re-release or even resemble any previous sets. given that lego have looked at trying to do that and the legends line bombed. I would expect a brand new castle but possibly under an older name.

Well now that there are vids from the Toy Fair in NY we get a good look at the new Castle sets. The King's Castle is all new and like it was said to me by the Customer service rep at Lego it is modular and apears to be compatable with the last castle. The Re-release appears to be the small black castle with the dragon. Looks like a slightly modified prison rescue set with a dragon added. All and all I like the new sets and I plan on adding them all to my collection.

^I too was actually quite pleased with the new castle sets, sans the castle, I think it looks too bulky. Would have liked some new head gear too. At least we get new head gear for the new horse!

^^ I actually think a Legends line would sell better today, as there is a new generation of AFOLs that would buy. But still probably wouldn't be a success.

I need a sticker sheet for my Yellow Castle and then I would be a really happy camper. I doubt if they brought it back they would reissue the sheet but wow that would be the cat's meow. Right now I need the sticker sheet, 1 blue minifig, 3 light grey soldier helmets and all 4 of the knight's helms with the feathers/faceguards.

You need to find someone with an unused sticker sheet and have them scan it for you with a high quality scanner. I'm sure someone within this forum would be willing to do that for you. Then it would be on you to print them out.

I'm game for that too! I found a couple images online but none clear enough to print my own.

Also, I bet if you ask very nicely @JMTodd might scan a sticker sheet for you :)

^^Apparently, if you want to print out stickers, they will never be very "clear" unless you use a computer program such as Scribus and make them into vectors. I don't want to volunteer services on behalf of other people, but if you ask very nicely, @MinifigsMe might be able to help.

I bought many of those repro sticker sheets found on eBay a few years back and they were good, great quality, except you had to cut tothem to detail yuorself and that they were all slightly bigger than the factory produced ones, probably be cause of scanning and the fact that LEGO always had bigger graphics on the sheet than what the sticket actually was

Which is why I wish LEGO would just sell a master sticker sheet book with all the stickers sheets for each theme for the past 35 years, if not longer.
I know it would probably be pricy but it would be so worth it to get actual authentic Main street and Cargo center stickers, as well as the Yellow castle and train sets.

Anyone buy two of these yet? I am thinking about buying a second one, keeping it on ice for a few years and seeing what the resale value is then? OR, using it for an alternate model, maybe doubling up on the cinema itself??
