Here's an update to my Death Star build:

I am through 3 of the 4 boxes. I just built the super laser array. Once again, I thought I was missing a piece, but upon completion of the actual laser effect, I found the piece that was missing. The array, to me, is a pretty complex creation and I felt the instructions were just a bit vague on how to create the final shape, but it's done and looks good. Depending on how tonight goes, I may finish it. Very happy I bought this. It was one of the things I really wanted to have in my collection and it looks great so far.

I'm currently building another steam engine. I'm really going all-out on this one, and as an idea of the complexity of it, it's taken me over two hours this evening to build the running boards.

I've spent about 7 evenings building it so far, and estimate it will require another 4 or 5 to finish. Displaying it at STEAM won't be possible (too many bricks needed, some of which I won't get until STEAM). Displaying it at Brick 2014 is a distinct possibility though. It all depends on whether the decals are done by then or not.

I'm currently making a "stud color chart" which is going to have all of the colors of studs with the color name beside each stud. I just ordered 46 1x8 tiles and I have 37/46 of all of the studs. I'm almost there!

I am currently on a kick about building 1' tall sculptures of characters using Duplo. Quite the challenge given the limited color/part selection.

Just completed a replica of the Old Post Office in White River Junction VT (now the home of the School of Comic Art!), just in time for a show in ... White River Junction VT!

One other NELUG member has built a replica of the old train station there (now a visitor centre) which is the building we'll be exhibiting in!

If you want to see these in person (plus the rest of the display, plus a ton of train-related stuff), come to WRJ this Saturday 10am - 4pm!

    The actual building:

I'm looking to build the Tumbler from #7888, sourcing the parts from Bricks and Pieces, PAB and any older sets containing the parts in the correct colours. A few bricks have had newer versions made, so that's made it a little easier.

I did that awhile back. I was not a fan of the finished product, but others seem to like it.

Just finished building the main plane from the #4953 fast flyers set I picked up for cheap. Wasn't that impressed by the hovercraft but I really like the jet.
It looks fantastic and my boy was having lots of fun with it when he found it this morning :)

Attempting to restore some order to our LEGO room, we built our City sets, then the 2000 Polar Base to accompany the new Arctic Base Camp, & now diving into a 1' x 2' x 1' drawer full of the Monster Fighters sets. Hopefully, with my schedule, they'll be done by Halloween.

    First up- the Ghost Train.

That's pretty cool @cheshirecat‌ , how much bigger are you thinking of going with that?
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
It will be symmetrical, I had hoped to produce something similar in scale, parts to a system castle. Didn't quite manage it.

@cheshirecat - Those flesh plates are perfect for Roman roofs, great colour choice.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
It would be, but I need them to be 10x6, no problem I thought I'll just get a few 2x6 plates to go next to the 8x6s. Checked bricksets part database - D'oh!!

I am reading the Hobbit to my six year old daughter. As we work our way through the book we build the sets for that scene and act out the book. We just built the barrel escape and read the scene; I was not expecting much from the set but really enjoyed it and I think it represents the scene very well. (We need to start building the Lake Town set really soon it seems).

Just coming out of my dark age. Spent the last year collecting cool bits and pieces I've missed out on.

My building skills are very rusty but I'm attempting to build my own 'castle land'. Landscaping needs work but I'll get there.

(Also I want it to have a real 'lego feel' to it as opposed to super realistic)

Early stages but you get the idea. Pointers/tips/comments welcomed.

Using old-style bricks and baseplates means it has a sort of classic feel to it - like the backgrounds in old catalogues and stuff. I like that look.

Finally finished the roman gatehouse from the other day. I'm very pleased with it but now somehow need to free up the bricks my kids used so that i can build more extensions.

I'm hoping for something akin to the 1980s castles where sets like #6040 and #6061 added to the walls of castles like #6080 (hence the corner turret). I think I can blame @Shib for it as I think we had a discussion a while back about how a roman theme could work. I had hoped to build something at a more 'system' level but it ended up being a bit bigger than that. As much as I'd love some impressive roman buildings from Ideas or MocPages its just not practical so I wanted to see if something more legoey could work. Its given me a whole new appreciation of how Lego designers manage to get play elements and a feel for a particular theme from a very small number of pieces.

And the inspiration - a reconstruction of a roman gatehouse from the NE of England.

@cheshirecat‌ I'm more than happy to take the blame if it results in something as nice as that. Agreed its a little more than you'd expect for a standard system set but you can easily see how TLG might use a design like that scaled down, I'm thinking it matches #70402 quite nicely in content for a comparable castle theme set.

I think you should get it on Lego Ideas, I'd definitely put a vote in for that, most of the Roman projects I've seen on there are just masses of minifigures.
  • adventure_aladventure_al Member Posts: 243
I think if TLG were ever going to dabble with the roman theme there would certainly need to be a mythical element to it. Monsters etc

Just for playability/interest of the younger market

However afol would be all over that. Good effort

I think they could do it much like the recent wave of Castle sets, only one of those had a magic element (containing both a Dragon and a Wizard) the rest were pseudo historical.

Finished @rancorbait's "Orthank" - very elegant design, but boy those LDD instructions are weird. I switched out a few things, replacing some gray that were visible for black. The rare 15573 (1 x 2 jumper with stud holder) in black was replaced with a 1 x 2 tile without problem. Hopefully that new part will be used more in the future.

Thank you rancorbait. It is a wonderful addition to my LoTR collection. The picture with the Trevi Fountain shows the scale and that it works well with the architecture series.
