I am through 3 of the 4 boxes. I just built the super laser array. Once again, I thought I was missing a piece, but upon completion of the actual laser effect, I found the piece that was missing. The array, to me, is a pretty complex creation and I felt the instructions were just a bit vague on how to create the final shape, but it's done and looks good. Depending on how tonight goes, I may finish it. Very happy I bought this. It was one of the things I really wanted to have in my collection and it looks great so far.
I've spent about 7 evenings building it so far, and estimate it will require another 4 or 5 to finish. Displaying it at STEAM won't be possible (too many bricks needed, some of which I won't get until STEAM). Displaying it at Brick 2014 is a distinct possibility though. It all depends on whether the decals are done by then or not.
And here's what it's modelled on:-
Hopefully it'll be ready for Southport.
Also, here's the laser thing from our Death Star:-
One other NELUG member has built a replica of the old train station there (now a visitor centre) which is the building we'll be exhibiting in!
If you want to see these in person (plus the rest of the display, plus a ton of train-related stuff), come to WRJ this Saturday 10am - 4pm!
The actual building:
It looks fantastic and my boy was having lots of fun with it when he found it this morning :)
First up- the Ghost Train.
My building skills are very rusty but I'm attempting to build my own 'castle land'. Landscaping needs work but I'll get there.
(Also I want it to have a real 'lego feel' to it as opposed to super realistic)
Early stages but you get the idea. Pointers/tips/comments welcomed.
I'm hoping for something akin to the 1980s castles where sets like #6040 and #6061 added to the walls of castles like #6080 (hence the corner turret). I think I can blame @Shib for it as I think we had a discussion a while back about how a roman theme could work. I had hoped to build something at a more 'system' level but it ended up being a bit bigger than that. As much as I'd love some impressive roman buildings from Ideas or MocPages its just not practical so I wanted to see if something more legoey could work. Its given me a whole new appreciation of how Lego designers manage to get play elements and a feel for a particular theme from a very small number of pieces.
And the inspiration - a reconstruction of a roman gatehouse from the NE of England.
I think you should get it on Lego Ideas, I'd definitely put a vote in for that, most of the Roman projects I've seen on there are just masses of minifigures.
Just for playability/interest of the younger market
However afol would be all over that. Good effort
Thank you rancorbait. It is a wonderful addition to my LoTR collection. The picture with the Trevi Fountain shows the scale and that it works well with the architecture series.
@cheshirecat After looking at your gatehouse again I started playing with a Lego Romans logo...so of course the start of a box art has started to happen
