I sure wish we had a store like that around here. With six months of winter, you’d think this would be an ideal market!

None in MN, but depending on where in the state you are, there might be one within reasonable day trip distance?

Or you could encourage a friend to open a franchise. ;)

Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Madison, Wisconsin are each about four hours from the Twin Cities- according to Google Maps. But "reasonable day trip distance" is highly variable in winter!

A few failed experiments from yesterday :D

Have a few other techniques to try: drilled out eye holes and making a face out of clay

Yeah totally - my take away from this failed experiment, though, is that the sticker method isn't going to look that great. I'm going to try two methods to add depth next: 1) drill into the dish to put eyes behind it (boat studs) and 2) make a 3D face out of clay

how about a clear sticker background and cutting out the slivers?  Alternatively you could try separate stickers for each eye with brow and mouth.

love Thomas btw, miss those years my little one will be 18 later this month.

can you source decal paper instead? then you would just need to use decal softener to get it to stick on without any creases.

^Is that brickgloria's moc? I've been seriously tempted but if the build is so fragile I think I might hold off...
  • TheFewTheFew Member Posts: 1,781
@PJ76uk yep Brickgloria. It is fragile in so much that when you built it, to puts parts on there is no where to hold the model without previous bits popping off. Also some of the connections are are a bit tenous.

So an awesome MOC and an awesome build. But like most MOCs, not up to Lego's standards for stability of the construction.

But once finished it is a display piece... certainly not swooshable!
  • TheFewTheFew Member Posts: 1,781
@PJ76uk 5,000 parts sounds about correct... it has taken ages to get the build this far.

Not so sad to hear the Sauron falls apart easily.. atleast it gives those Hobbits a fighting chance!

Have to agree that I go through phases of not liking MOCs as they can be a pain to build... with one exception being the Arvo Brothers MOCs... rock solid those!

Feeling festive having finished work earlier in the week, decided to have a little mincepie and open #40564
I quite like these little Christmas scenes, the mountains and trees making the background are simply yet very effective.

Feeling festive, started building the Home Alone house. Did a bunch of bags then parked the cook's van in the living room till tomorrow when we'll continue. Very nice build so far.

@560Heliport I lost my Beanz this year and feel for your aunt.  Lego Abby is very nice❤️.  Have you thought about trying to make a small lego picture frame that could attach somehow and putting Abby’s photo in it?

By far the most expensive Advent calendar I’ve ever done, but it was totally worth it.  I’m very happy I was able to build it one bag per day.

Don’t Walmart and many drugstores have a way to walk in with your phone and print pictures?

Probably. But since my smartphone is the first camera I've ever owned (aside from a few disposables I've taken on camping trips), I just usually don't think about taking photos- just not a "thing", if you see what I mean.

Finally... built it all together!  A REALLY fun build, designed to be built together - kept 6 of us entertained for over an hour all doing the different parts!  The homage to the Friends theme is impressive, and it's really designed as a family thing (there's a video with Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen and Niels Christiansen that explains how this 'building together' is really important'.  Not spoiling any surprises by posting this, but everything opens up and the fireplace lights up too!

I’m way behind the times, but I finally gave the Monkie kid theme a chance and I’m in love with 80020 white dragon horse jet. One of the few sets that I think has to be built and seen in person to fully appreciate.

A recolor of the alternate build from #31021 Furry Creatures.
This is Abby, my aunt's dog. Abby died early this year. She was a great dog, just the sweetest little mutt.
This is my Christmas present to my aunt.
    How precious!! Great job!

Building "The Old West" sets from The LEGO Movie, that I've just acquired thanks to @jedivalkyrie, to compliment my Western theme collection.

Sadly, I got hit with a really nasty case of the brittle browns!! ☹️ (Not at all @jedivalkyrie 's fault, most of the sets were still brand new in bag!) Sounded like the Rice Krispy factory around here during the build. So many snap, crackle, and pops. Hopefully LEGO will be able to send replacement bricks.

Outside of that unfortunate issue though, these are such fun sets! I have the rest of the CMF minifigs along with Western Emmett on the way.

Boxing Day building, made the cool sunflowers over breakfast and then the Aston Martin SC pair over lunch
Just finished the Vantage GT3 while rustling up leftover gammon and turkey pea pasta for tea. Really like the 8 wide SC cars, but the Valkyrie feels a bit too long for the width.

@evancelt if you weren’t, always use the fastest drill and speed you have when drilling plastic or acrylic plus use tape (usually painters) on the surface you want cleanest and drill through that side.  Looks good.  If you try clay and run into issues you may want to try plaster of Paris as you would be able to carve it more easily than sculpting clay.

What’s the bigger project Thomas is for?
