Such a fun set to build. It's easy to see why this set is so well loved by so many, the play potential is absolutely huge! I only want a whole bunch more cavalry figs to populate it a bit more.
That checks one of the big ones off my list towards collecting the entire Western theme!
That fig driving the wagon on the right is Kevin Costner's character.
His catamaran would make for an awesome set. Along with a couple playsets for the Atoll and the Valdez. Throw in a few of the Smoker's vehicles and you've got yourself a theme!
(Even though many deride it, I've actually always enjoyed that movie.)
And I know the guns are a little controversial, but they're such nice pieces accessories for the theme. So many pew-pews were made with those.
If you have some of the plant pieces in dark tan, dark orange, olive green, or sand green that can help make the landscape around the fort look more deserty on that tan baseplate. Here are a couple of my desert plant examples:
Honestly, I love LEGO Space and Pirates, but of the sets I recall desperately wanting when I was growing up, Western most sticks in my mind.
I'm really excited to see your collection come together, pxchris!
I still have a few big sets to go (both of the large Indian camps as well as the Bandit's hideout) but one advantage here is that there's only 16 sets total for me to have to work on collecting, as opposed to the 54 Pirates sets. Once my next Bricklink orders come in (one is from overseas, so it'll be a bit) I'll be at 10/16.
The carrot growing mechanism isn't very accurate to reality, but a cute feature.
I suppose it's due to the "5+" age rating, but the part callouts just show multiple pictures of each part, rather than e.g. 3x. I find it a more intuitive method. There's certainly room on the pages!
I agree about the build process. It's been really good except for putting on the legs. I also had a little trouble putting on the head. A couple of the technic pins were being stubborn. I could have used several extra hands to hold everything in place while I shoved and tilted and shoved until all of the pins realized what they were supposed to do.
I also need an engine lift or something to move the thing, it weighs so much!
But I'm also one of those weirdos who really enjoys the Gingerbread House and Elf Clubhouse also -- although I'll admit that building Gingerbread House in back-to-back years was enough. I love the way it looks, but I'll be storing it assembled for a few years.
I'm looking forward to getting and building Holiday Main Street -- probably the weekend after Thanksgiving, but it may wait until I've got the bulk of my other WV set up.
Anyhow, I'm not building per se, but rebuilding. My #75288 AT-At decided to take a dive after months of standing up just fine, and it took the AT-ST with it. Not the best situation to wake up to but it could be worse. Here's hoping I can repair it without having to strip and rebuild it from scratch.
