So I have finally taken some time to build a few sets from my huge (and still growing) backlog, which has been enormously cathartic. But the one I found the most interesting was #75316 Mandalorian Starfighter.  I really like the design of this ship anyway, but something really caught my attention when building this one.

If you look at the ship, you'll see that it has two large wings that only differ in that they are mirrored versions of each other.  In every previous set I've built, the build would have also been identical; the same build instructions but mirrored.  The really interesting thing about this build is that the two wings were constructed in almost totally different ways.  There was nothing crazy about the builds themselves, they both used standard build techniques, but the fact that they were two different build orders was really surprising to me. This is clearly an effort to keep repeated builds from getting boring, and I quite liked the surprise of having a different build order from what I was expecting for the second wing.  I hope LEGO keeps up with this trend of trying to change up their build orders so sets don't become overly repetitive.  Definitely a great surprise for what I already considered a winner of a set!

I like assemblies like wings to be mirrored, that way I can build them faster. I generally open the separate bags for mirrored assemblies at the same time so I can build them at the same time. I don’t like tricks with build order or slight differences from side to side because they make the build longer and more tedious.

Generally by the time I've bought a set for myself I've watched so many building videos, read so many reviews, read the instructions so many times, that I already know exactly what to expect with the set, so I just want to have it built and in hand.

Part of why I don’t watch building videos or read many reviews; I want the surprises along the way.

After picking up #76194 in Sainsburys for £20, decided a lazy BH Friday was a hood excuse to build. Had a late night BBQing for 100 people at a Platinum Jubilee beacon party organised by Mrs Speedy, so I needed cake to get going....
....its a bit odd building a set from a show that's yet to air, despite being available for ages. Marvel saw fit to divide the season of What if...? In two and still haven't shown the Sakaarian Ironman episode yet....

....the colours are great and it really pops with the aqua pieces....

....the buggy is a bit odd and I don't know where Tony hides legs and hands of his suit when he drives! But it's a neat play feature.

But I wanted it for the mech. Its a nice chunky monkey, but limited on posability in the leg department.

Kids decided they wanted a quiet day in watching movies so perfect opportunity to break the seals on #10302. Lovely build and the transforming feature is very smooth, felt like I remember from my childhood!

Have to say the scale took me by surprise, all the transformers and “accessories” I built for my transformers out of Lego back in the 80s were of a much smaller scale and required dismantling to transform into a robot!

Optimus is currently keeping Artoo company until a permanent home can be arranged!

And yes, I’m aware I forgot to rotate the fuel tanks on his legs after transforming into a truck. I realised when putting him next to Artoo!

@iwybs I do the same thing - especially with large builds that have identical, but mirrored components.  Case in point, the UCS AT-AT.  I built the leg sections first in an assembly line style.
@rockethead26 That's not it at all!  Building 'mirror' style challenges your brain to go off-script from the instructions and think a little abstractly.  The added benefit is completing repetitive sections quicker, but honing some skills in the process =)

I haven't broken the seals on my Optimus Prime yet, but I watched the 1986 Transformers movie yesterday and wonder why in the Lego set, the crystal part of the matrix of leadership is orange and not purple. Was it different in the series cartoons? I can't remember ever seeing the matrix in the series prior to the movie.

It's been a slow couple of weeks since #31132 wasn't in stock at the Lego store so I've tried to keep myself busy in the meantime.

I tweaked the nose of the #75302 Imperial Shuttle to give it a more accurate angle. It isn't perfect and probably breaks a few of Lego's design rules but the chin is more of a gullet now.

I also received my copy of #11014 so I can build the fire extinguisher from #75218 into my #75301 X-Wing.

And lastly, but certainly not least, I went on rebrickable and transformed my spare #75300 Tie Fighter into cbavota 's Tie Interceptor. It's perhaps not the most accurate MOC, but I felt it was the better of the options available using all of the existing parts, and without shopping or hunting for other parts. I must say that the Tie Interceptor is easily my favourite model to date, so here's hoping that the Return of the Jedi 40th Anniversary will bring some goodies next year.

I've had to make space on my other Billy bookcase for when I do get hold of #31132 Viking ship which has meant lumping everything together for now which is not ideal. I think I may replace the doors with full glass pane doors so I can display everything in mini dioramas properly!

    Have just finished #75339.

Very impressed with how it all slots together when fully closed and it looks great on display.
If I was to have any minor quibbles it would have to be the price (Definitely doesn't feel like an £80 set) and the poor attempt at the Dianoga (especially with all the tentacle parts available in the likes of #76205 which would have been perfect).
Saying that, the selection of minifigures is great, the final product looks brilliant on display and I finally have an R2 that has printing on the front and back (which should have been done for the UCS R2 but that's another story) so all in all I'm not disappointed and would heartily recommend this set to any Star Wars fan, especially if you can pick it up at a reasonable discount.

I just finished building The Starry Night and it looks spectacular. I did build the liftarm extension with the Vincent minifig on the platform but I thought it looked gimmicky so I left it off.

Looks great! I'm currently working on that set myself; I just got the frame on, next is all those beautiful background elements. I'll probably display it without Van Gogh connected to it as well (I'm hoping to mount it on the wall, though I'm going to have to figure out what type of nail to use that's strong enough to keep it up there!)

Found a shadowbox in storage and realized it was four studs deep and 37 across. A search through the parts bins for enough of each color to build the supports and now we have some CMFs (and one non-CMF) on display!

Might be wrong but I don't think the movie director was a CMF, looks like it's STU002 from STUDIOS theme

Rebuilding my Optimus Prime for the 3rd time  - it keeps falling to bits and the arms especially are incredibly slack, the clutch on a lot of the parts is incredibly poor - and I hasn't even tried to transform it. Lovely to look at but frustratingly crap to hold and pose.

My latest facebook marketplace find has provided me the opportunity to build this...

It appears that most of the pieces are present, all the figs and most of the micro figs are missing. Given the bricklink prices for the figs (about $20 each) I will most likely just source the mico figs.

    That's a bummer...
I built mine over the weekend and have transformed it back and forth a handful of times without issue. There are a couple of parts that are a little bit fiddly, but overall I've found it to be rather robust considering.

It's really slack/fragile around the waist and where the arms meet the upper body, feels like the waist could do with a pin or 2 to hold the ratchety circular piece on to the upper body.

My #75325 The Mandalorian's N-1 Starfighter, with improvements. I moved the engines down two plates and inward two studs, so the leading edges of the wings are a straight line from the nose to each engine. I removed four studs of length from the fuselage, thus eliminating the "cargo hold" for Mando's jetpack and Darksaber. I liked being able to store them in the ship, but the proportions were just wrong. I've come up with two alternate engine intakes, and I think I'll keep experimenting. I also fixed the laser cannon muzzles: those rounded parts just looked goofy! The whole thing as released makes me think it was designed, then someone said, "Make it bigger so we can charge more."
Why did I buy it, if it needed so much work? Well, I wanted Peli Motto, of course! ;)

Nothing fancy, But I've added a few of the UCS Sandcrawler droids to my #75220 Jawa Sandcrawler. The R1 droid arrived missing a dark green 1x1 plate which is kind of annoying as it means the 'arm' doesn't attach properly but hopefully it will be rectified shortly.

I've also added a couple of UCS Millenium Falcon / Advent Calendar Mynock's to my #75257 Millenium Falcon. They came without instructions, but I managed to figure it out by looking at the listing photo. They also came with a free gift of a wrench / spanner, so I may look at trying to mod my #75301 X-wing even further to add it in.

Lastly, I've reorganised my shelves a bit. I'm hoping to have 3 per original trilogy movie as the collection grows, but they're all jumbled up together for now. Moving the #75288 AT-AT from the bottom to the top shelf gives a bit more of an imposing look into the redeye window, and moving the Falcon from the top to the bottom (middle) shelf provides a better view of both the ship and the Mynock's, so win-win. Here's to seeing what the Lego fairies deliver up next :)

#42000 color swap. Parts & decorated panels from the following sets helped immensely. I initially kept track of what parts came from which sets but quit- I'll just discover & replace as I rebuild the sets.

I don't think the blue throws off the color scheme too badly...unfortunately I couldn't devise another satisfactory color scheme even with all the decorated panels I have (would've loved lime green/teal) but there are a couple more variations I can do with the panels in the pics.

Gradually working on Ninjago City during conference calls on work-from-home days. (Constantly double-checking to ensure I’m muted as I sift through elements!) It’s slow going, just a couple bags a week, but I’m not in a hurry - I can only build this for the first time once, right? I’m about half done so I still have plenty of building to go before I need to get Ninjago City Gardens and start the process over again.

Here is what I've been building for the past few months (more than a year actually).

This is my Lego World Builder project, Buildovian Adventure. It is currently being reviewed as a candidate for Lego World Builder Pitch Fest.

Pitch Fest is where people submit their ideas for a Lego world which currently will be considered for a feature film, short film, TV show or game (board game or computer). It is also probable that the winning entry may become a new Lego theme with sets as well.

I have submitted Buildovian Adventure as a possible feature film.

Please feel free to check out my World and all the MOCs I have made for it!

I did post about Buildovian Adventure ages ago however I have since made some major changes to the characters, story and added more storylines with various MOCs relating to those, and I would really appreciate feedback as I participate in the Pitch Fest process.

So yeah, comments or suggestions are very welcome! These can be on the world itself or an individual element; or in response to this post or PM me.

You can also formally 'contribute' a world element, so for example you might think of a new character or build a vintage car and then I can accept that submission and you will be credited for that.

Shoutout to fellow Bricksetter @Modeltrainman, who has been very helpful with suggestions and feedback, and recently contributed some aircraft hangars for Buildovian Adventure.
