@Speedman29 I'm letting it sit today while I mull over various thoughts. I think you are right about removing the dark tan under the beast. It ended up there when I was trying to find a way top get the thing at an angle with a turntable. Have always planned to add "froth" where the beast comes out of the water but almost forgot. Thanks!! BTW am enjoying watching you do the Boutique Hotel, I enjoyed that build myself!

I just finished building the small red Vespa #40517 and have to say it's excellent! It looks fantastic for the scale with great use of curved parts. I have no real interest in the larger one but this one is a lovely build and it's worth adding to an order if you are a tenner off a GWP threshold in the coming months.
Some of the parts in the set are either unique to the set or used in very few sets for now so it's a great parts pack too. I was going to use it for parts too but I'm thinking about getting another one now so I can keep one for display.

Great to hear this as I have one on the way, well actually, two of them.

I really like this too. After reading Huw's review, I decided to swap the dark grey 2x8 Technic plate for a red one, and it it looks much better.

Nice little build, a bit small next to the Vespa though

Back on the Boutique Hotel build during the week....
First floor build with a couple of bedrooms
More great little details, this desk with typewriter makes me want the Ideas typewriter even more!
There's a mini first floor above the art gallery too, with a terrace bar.
    Onwards to the top floor

Just put together a Jerac v1 X-wing that I bought from my brother, since he was about to part it out and build something else.  Finally!  I've wanted an ultra mega super colossal Moc-type X-wing for nearly twenty years now, though the ones I wanted twenty years ago were pretty different from a modern Jerac.

I think it's remarkable that the garden-variety humble retail set X-wing 75301 which you can easily get for $40 in 2022 is better than the top-tier MOC X-wings that I admired on Brickshelf in 2002, in most of the ways that mattered to me in 2002.  So just owning set 75301 is better than having a top-tier X-wing MOC in 2002.  But the top-tier X-wing MOCs of 2022 are far beyond that level of accuracy and detail.

Unbuilt a couple SW sets to make room on a shelf for something else…. Medieval Blacksmith!!

Pulled a couple other sets off the shelf so there’s room for a 2nd castle-themed set, but I can’t disassemble for too long because it hurts my fingers and it’s just boring!

I will probably take a few days of short sessions to finish.

I built #76185 Spider man at the sanctum workshop last night and it was my least favorite set in a long time. Flimsy and just a pile of… things. I’ll keep the awesome cape and part out the rest.

#2160, #2161, and #2162 from the 1997 Aquazone subtheme Aquaraiders- different from the 2007 Aqua Raiders theme.
Man, those had some funky-ass parts :)

looks familiar. my KFOL collection includes if not those sets some of that theme

I understand that one reason 90's LEGO had business trouble was so many molds.

#30417 flower and butterfly, #30583 Easter bunny painting an Easter egg
I sometimes build small sets on a tray in front of the TV as manageable builds with the space and time involved.
    Both cute little builds

Building a set I've sat on for a bit, #21321
Learning as I'm building. Love it. Especially the micro/mini builds.
(Don't worry mods, I didn't post any pics).

I'd love to hear more about what she used @gelkster... ironing my sails is a bit of a terrifying experience to me!

  • gelkstergelkster Member Posts: 927
it's a Cricut (pronounced "cricket") heat press, basically what an iron does for crafting, except an iron uses steam. This thing heats up the metal base (platen).

You put the sails on a pad & lay a teflon sheet (tan sheet in picture) over them, then rub the press over the teflon sheet.

The dark gray thing is where you set it to cool down when you're done.

Remember it doesnt CLEAN them, just flattens them. She said for stubborn creases/folds spritz a TINY BIT of water on the specific area just before pressing-- I applied water with a small paint brush.

I have spent hours sorting a tub of black pieces looking to finish up 6030. After 3 hours of sorting I found:

Then another hour or so I found:

    Now I have a 100% complete 6030.

A bonus find was this little gem:

I may just have to build 10000 now.

%100 agree. That is why I spent half a day sorting the bulk black by element and into the drawers.

Finally finished Medieval Blacksmith yesterday. Build is not bad, not exceptional, but it looks GREAT when finished. Really an excellent looking set. Love some of the details, and really love the overall feel of the set.

    hey me too! 🤣🤣

I don't HATE it but this SP II color scheme is my least favorite of the 3 lines. SP I's colors evoke "police" to me & SP III's good guy vehicles are super cool.

A word of advice, if you're going to display it long term, use the stand.  Its massive weight causes flat spots in the tires, especially the rear ones. Mine will never roll smoothly again.

    @WesterBricks
Try hot water. My #8466 sat, built, in a box for years. The tires were somewhat flattened. I soaked them in hot water and they returned to round. I used tap water, I don't think I'd risk anything hotter.
