Question about GameStop preorder

I'm curious if anyone could offer an opinion about this. I went a few days ago to pick up my Lego LOTR Nintendo DS game I preordered, paid, and then asked the employee for the minifig bonus that was supposed to come w/ it. He acted all confused like he didn't know anything about it, so i described it & he took a few minutes to randomly search around behind the counter for the bonus, almost as if he was stalling to see if i'd say 'oh, don't worry about it.' Since i didn't, obviously!, he then magically found ONE random pack just sitting there by the register and was like 'oh, this must be it!'

Now my question, is it at all possible that he didn't know about this bonus minifig?? I even asked him if i was the first person to ask about it (this was at least 3 days after release) while picking up a preorder and he said yes!

I had also ordered a wii version, so when i go back on the 13th i'm dying to see if he pulls that again.

Anyone else notice this? Thanks!

Yes, there are a lot of games that go on with Gamestop. The employees usually have a little racket going on. Check the thread for the Lego Super Heroes to find other examples.

I just pre-ordered the LoTR for Xbox yesterday. He told me to get there early in case they run out. A bunch of BS as the offer is to receive the Lego minifig with pre-order -- not be told to be their early.

I pre-ordered 2 DS games and both arrived without a figure, so yes I'm sure Gamestop is running some kind of shenanigans. Here's a clue Gamestop, don't accept a pre-order with the promise of a bonus when that bonus is not in stock.

It's possible he didn't know. It's also possible he knew and was hoping you wouldn't notice in order to take your figure and sell it on eBay. Or not. Who knows.

I've e-mailed LEGO directly to see if they have anything to say about the (what sounds like) numerous people getting screwed out of their minifig. I'm sure they'll just direct me back to GameStop, but I'll follow up here when I've heard back from them.

This thread should probably be merged with this one under Collecting -
Want Elrond figure but don't want game. Ideas?

You should check this thread for some answers. The official reason is that Gamestop ran out of the minifigs. Although I got 3 and didn't preorder until the day before the release date. Maybe each store got X amount?

I think the official reason is that the fig doesn't come with the DS version.

^yes it does, it was listed on the gamestop website when it was available for oreorder, but i've noticed the offers have since been removed.

    And thank you everyone!

The DS version came out last Tues. That may be why the offer is no longer available. I got 3 of them last Tues, each with an Elrond minifig.

I just got three minifigs last night with the 3DS version of the game. I went to one gamestop, got the story about being "wait listed" for the minifig (they didn't even ask me which platform I wanted the game for), then went to another and the guy had three minifigs left from the DS and 3DS release.

So perhaps if there's another one close enough, it's worth checking multiple stores.

Went to my local store and they happily offered me a fig. Said they had plenty. Sweet.

So moral is GameStop online not great but in store is better. (at least this time.)

^so u mean u didn't preorder it, but they let u have one when buying the game? Hmmmm, i might need to check another store!

It varies from store to store. I generally preorder games and pick up at the one near my work and avoid all other Gamestops.

I missed out on a Sparrow polybag because I got their late. Even though I pre-ordered to get the game AND fig.
How this occurs I do not know because when you pre-order you get the figure. So it would stand to reason that no matter how many people show up, or how late you show up, you should still have a figure waiting with your game IMO.
This does not happen and that is why Gamestop gets no more of my money.

No - I preordered online and didn't receive a figure. And when I complained to online customer service, they told me to go fly a kite. I then went to the brick and mortar store and was about to return the game but they offered me the figure and so I was more than happy to keep the game, having now received what I bargained for.

Ironically, I pre-ordered online the last two times after hearing horror stories about receiving promo items in store, and yet in-store turned out to be the way to go. Go figure.

Aren't you supposed to get the fig when you preorder? You don;t have to wait until the game arrives to get the fig, do you?

I was at the B&M store when they pulled this garbage, so again Im just saying you roll the dice.. I mean it is ok for those with no jobs or anything, but for those that must put work before picking up a pre-order game it sucks
