Especially if there is not much on offer in the post, a "PM sent" may put off others from getting in contact since they might think a deal has been done. Unless of course the OP does another "still available" post bumping the thread again.

If so, I do apologise for any inconvenience or trouble caused as I did bumped my thread once like you said without update anything; but all my other updates are there for a reason.

If this break the forum rule in any way, I sincerely apologise.

Would you mind send me a private message next time if you notice anything before making any public comment ? As this thread is intended for trading purpose and I intend to keep a clear list of what I am currently have for anyone who is interested for a trade. Your comments seems to be way off the topic of this thread.

I am sure there must be a better and more polite way than this to express your opinion.

@CCC, yes indeed.

I did receive message asking whether my trade is still on. Sometimes we have to 'update' or bump the thread, otherwise people just think the thread is closed and the deal is done.

I do apologise if I offended you by commenting publicly. I really didn't intend to. I thought about replying to your comment by PM (and posting "PM sent", just for @CCC :-)) but having started publicly, I'll finish publicly.

I'm afraid it is a pet peeve to see a comment saying merely "bump", especially after only a few hours. You did only do it once here, but I remember a previous thread of yours where you did it a couple of times and on which I nearly commented then. Again, though, I guess I could've messaged you privately about this. I was also just interested to see if it bothered others...

However, I can see that my comment was off-topic and the irony of that is not lost on me @adammullins given my recent discussion. That said, I did used to be quite the Queen of OT, so maybe I'm falling back on bad habits :-)

Cool, let's open this up and look at the history. I have a science background, therefore it is my bad habits that I always look at evidence before drawing any conclusion.

I have 8 threads in total for trading and selling in the marketplace:

1. For trade S6-7 Minifigures (UK): No bump

2. For Trade (UK) LEGO CMF Series and Olympic Minifigures: No bump

3. For Trade: CMF, GB minifigures, Polybags (UK): No bump

4. For trade: CMF S8 (UK): No bump

5. For Sale: various sets from my collection (UK): bumped twice

6. For Trade: Looking for S3 CMF Fisherman and Elf (UK): No bump

7. For Trade: Collectible Minigifure Series (CMF) (UK): bumped once

8. For Trade: various polybags (UK/International): bumped once

I think the only one which possibly make you 'nearly commented' would be the 6th thread in the list.

Let me express my reason for bumping that thread here: it is a 'for sale' thread as everything need to be uploaded to ebay for the free insertion weekend, I am hoping to attract as many buyers as possible.

That thread is actually posted about a month ago. If it still make you unhappy (even after such a long time), I am sorry for this.

I list these data is just to show, I am not such kind of person you referred as 'bump their marketplace threads on a daily basis without actually updating anything'.

If you really want to solve the problem, the person you should talk to will be the administrator of the forum and come up with a standard regulation which everyone needs to follow. @LostInTranslation

BUT, thanks for the 'free bumps' anyway :)

To me its more than the bumps, its the constant updating of long lists to remove one or two items. Its not necessary to me, a potential trader isnt going to be too upset if after pming they find an item is unavailable or unwanted. It comes across as a cheap way to regularly bump a thread, which is a fairly selfish way of depriving others of the limelight you crave, again its about whether this is a community. Every few days is fine, but there were three updates in a few hours earlier. From your reply i suspect you perhaps werent updating as an underhand way to bump, but thats how it comes across to some of us, well at least me. ;)

However, without a regulation: when to update, what to update and how often people update, and whether it is allowed to update, all these issue are matters of individual case and personal habit. It is rather difficult to judge and almost impossible to say whether it is correct or wrong.

This is why it would be so much better to allow a poster of a thread to update / edit the original post of a thread. If something changes then the post can be amended, and no need to bump it or repost essentially the same list with one item gone.
