I just came across a ToysRUs flyer for 10/28-11/21. I haven't seen the full info posted yet. I don't love ToysRUs and mainly took a peek to laugh at the "savings," but thought I would post it here. Don't get too excited. The prices are only a sale if you only shop at Toys R Us and have never heard of a TRUs coupon, and... (insert a large number of ifs). I'd trade in my NISB Lego sets at these prices.

There are some spend $XXX and get YYY Free. Maybe those make the "savings" more palatable.
* Lego Ninjago Accessory Pack ($7.99 value) is free with ANY LEGO Ninjago building purchase of $20 or more.
* LEGO Monster Fighters Coffin Car with Zombie Chauffeur ($4.99 value) is free with ANY LEGO Monster fighters building purchase of $20 or more.
* LEGO Friends Desk ($4.99 value) is free with ANY Lego Friends building purchase of $20 or more.
* Hobbit Notebook ($9.99 value) is free with ANY LEGO board game purchase of $20 or more.

Okay, with those out of the way, I'm going to set number, name, sale price, RRP, and discount %'age off RRP. I'd ridicule the original TRUs prices, but it gets a little old since it's about every item.

* 9450 - Epic Dragon Battle - $99.99 - $119.99 - (16.7%)

25% off Lego Games (Hobbit, Creationary, Heroica, City, Ninjago) - couldn't grok the specific sets from the flyer and I think there are multiple Heroica, City, and Ninjago games.

25% off all Lego Tables (which might be interesting if they weren't normally 30%+ off anyway)

^^ To be fair, it is 15% off a baby purchase.
  • murphquakemurphquake Member Posts: 651
I can't be the only childless member here who loves the mile of baby crap coupons TRU hands you with every purchase? I've gotten 1 useful coupon in a couple dozen transactions this year!
  • JenniJenni JapanMember Posts: 1,382
^ you don't have to be childless. Having an 8-year-old I'm buying adult shoes for also makes them useless.

Is there still a LEGO event this weekend at TRU? I saw the sign up earlier this week at the store but I was checking the TRU website for a time and it says "check back later for any special events"

I got an email about a Free LEGO Monster Accessory pack from 12 to 2pm. Fine prints: In-store only. Event intended for children, ages 5+. Parental supervision required at all times. All giveaways and event materials available while supplies last and distributed to participating children only. Limit one per child. Quantities limited; no rain checks.

^Your child also has to be named Bennet with red hair.

I can't believe I'm considering taking my 3 kids to this (oldest is 8). Does anyone know what's in this pack? I'm looking at a picture of what it might be - is it a spider, a skeleton, a bat, a crystal, and a gem?

While they like getting stuff and I like getting free stuff, I'm pretty sure the stress of a zoo-like TRUs isn't worth it.

^ the two we've been to haven't been bad, especially if you go a little later. Last time we were there at the end with almost no one else and got sent home with all the leftovers.

link to the event flyer (maybe?)
I didn't know about the 'close to the end' portion; wish our day tomorrow wasn't such a nightmare, or i'd drive my son to it

Has the Ninjago accessory pack ever been released? If not is there an image for it?

It's just a headband and some cards. You can see it in their big toy catalog.

Has anyone had success with price matching at TRU? I got a booklet with their October sales and they were advertising price matching. And the store I went to in Orange County had a banner up too. I didn't know if this was a local thing or what. But I was hoping to see if they could Price match Amazons price on Helms Deep ($98) and then use my $10 off $50 purchase. Although for some reason I'm pretty sure TRU wont do it.

^Without bothering to research beyond my own experience, I would say TRU will not match an online price. Not even TRU.com's.
  • yys4uyys4u USA SoCalMember Posts: 1,092
^Well my girlfriend managed to get them to price match TRU.com during the end of the 2nd week of bricktober. Their online prices were "discounted" to MSRP. Mines of Moria was 100 in store, 80 online which they price matched, AND gave her 20% off, it came out to like 63 something, and we got week 3's figure pack.

TRU Price Match Policy (Source: http://www.toysrus.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=11949070)

    Here are the guidelines:
-Price Match is valid for in-store purchases only.
-We will match all competitor store advertised prices.
-We'll match Toysrus.com and Babiesrus.com online pricing in our stores, except for online-only prices.
-Items purchased must be identical to the items advertised (e.g., brand, color, size).
-The original, complete competitor ad, with valid dates, must be presented at time of purchase.
-Prices are matched after deducting any Toys"R"Us and/or Babies"R"Us coupon savings and other offers from our price.
-Price match is given at the time of purchase or within 7 days of purchase date with a valid receipt.

We will not match prices for competitors':
    -Category-wide or storewide discounts
-Buy One Get One with purchase offers
    -Gift with purchase offers
    -Percentage (%) off discounts
    -Out-of-stock or limited quantity items
    -Doorbuster items
    -Prices advertised on Black Friday
-Internet pricing for non-baby gear items
    -Coupons
    -Ads with typographical pricing errors
  • yys4uyys4u USA SoCalMember Posts: 1,092
^thanks for that, I called too, they said they were expecting to add Internet price matching within the next couple weeks if u can believe that
  • DadsAFOLDadsAFOL USAMember Posts: 616
^^wait, wouldn't the "percentage off discount" cover ANY sale at a competitor?
  • dragonhawkdragonhawk USMember Posts: 633
^ No, that means they won't match this type of ads: 15% off Lloyd spinner, but they should match this type of ads: Lloyd spinner for $11.99
Which makes sense since TRU does not know the base price at the other store.

I believe Walmart has the same policy for not matching percentage off discounts. Well, they used to match % discounts but wised up pretty quickly ;)

TRU refused to match the $39.97 deal at Walmart this week, claiming it was an "error", while Walmart sold these sets in store all week long in my local. Guess they have a wide latitude to how they define "typographical pricing error"

I went out Sunday to have TRU price match and they did. Price went from 109.99 to 39.97! I bought 3 copies so the savings went from 330 down to 120. The cashier and customer service rep both said "wow". I bought extras for the guys in the LUG so we can draft this set at our Christmas Party.
  • Penkid11Penkid11 Member Posts: 781
Say if I were to show TRU an ad saying the Epic Dragon Battle is $119.99, could I use the 40% coupon in their Big Book and get the $10 gift card if I buy before the tenth? Even without price matching, will those deals stack?

@Penkid11: Sorry, I don't know the answer, perhaps you could call and see what they say? Or just take your chances when at the store. Worst they can say is no.

Also, where can I get a 40% off coupon? I hadn't heard of these. Thanks!

@nkx1 Sadly I made a typo, its $40 not 40%. I wouldnt have asked the question if that were true. The coupon is on the first page of the Christmas Big Book insert in the news paper.
  • nkx1nkx1 Member Posts: 719
Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the reply!

^^ When did that come out? We haven't gotten one in our paper the last few weeks.

When you price match, coupons will not be accepted on top of it.

99.99 for #9450 is an okay deal, just not enough to get me to buy it, even if you could get the $10 gift card with it. Definitely would have bought it for 79.99 for sure.
  • mechteachmechteach Member Posts: 19
@Jenni thank you very much! I'll see if it turns up in the mail in the next couple of days first.

Wait, if I read correctly above is that I cannot, say, price match a Ninjago Skull Truck at TRU with the Amazon price, correct?
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 2,002
^Correct. But you'd be hard-pressed to find a B&M retailer that would be willing to price match Amazon.

Starting Thursday, Target will be price matching Amazon and other online retailers in-store:

You may want to jump on 3677 before the sale ends. This set is listed as retiring soon and $30 off is hard to resist. If you are a rewards member then you should also have a $10 off coupon (off any purchase over $100) attached to the catalog. That coupon can be used too to lower the price even more.

Not sure whether I opened a "pandora" box in terms of collecting. I just bought my first train set (3677).

I like the LEGO trains a lot. I have all the recent ones. Also, trains seem to do well in the long term.

I knew this was going to be a slippery slope... Pulled the trigger on the 10219 as well
