GRogall on Eurobricks this morning has confirmed that the next Modular Building will be 10232 Cinema Palace. No pics yet, but if you read enough of GRogall's posts, the man knows what he's talking about.

On one hand, excellent. On the other hand, disappointing because we already have a cinema (and already had a town hall as well). Different scale and all, I get it, but just surprised.

On the plus side, I can now seriously consider selling my Town Plan :).

The set name is 10232 Palace Cinema! Not Cinema Palace! a MOD should change the title and add the set #.

Awesome!! Guess I won't be needing to mod the Town Plan Movie Theater.

Oops, was too excited. Yes, Mods, please correct. @Grogall, any information about the list price, piece count? There's talk about a possible price decrease, if that can be believed - 129€ instead of 149€.

No; sadly not yet! Will update when I have more info.......

I wonder how they design the marquee without using stickers? Introduce a new alphabet element? Brick built letters (would take up too much space). Or resort to stickers...

We'll have to wait until we see it, of course, but I'm also concerned about this. I feel like the same issue would arise for any movie posters that pop up, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for printed bricks.

10232 is already a Racers set.
  • ghostmindghostmind Member Posts: 14
The Racers set was an April Fools joke this year.

    Thanks

^ Really hoping for the modulars to stay at the $149 USD range, but not so sure with the TH being so big and at $199.

The linked Eurobricks thread suggested it was 129,99 €, though that didn't seem to be confirmed. For reference, the Town Hall is 179,99 € and Fire Brigade is 149,99 €. If that price is to be believed, it sounds like this one would be substantially smaller, though I'd be completely fine with that, as three story movie theaters are few and far between.
  • jpczjpcz Member Posts: 95
Without looking at the conversion, isn't 130euro about 170usd? Would that make the price point 179.99 in the US?
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,833
I'm guessing it will not be below 150...
Although it would be humorous if it looked just like the Town Plan one but bigger...

Honestly I have no idea why people would want to get rid of their 10184 Town plan for this but I guess to each their own.
10184 Town Plan was meant as a smaller town piece, not a town that would most likely have a cinema in a bigger building.. Not to mention that LEGO still has not come up with another gas station set (Yes Yes I know the new Parking garage has pumps but I do not consider that a Gas station)

I understand where you coming from. Just think of it as a UCS version of the theatre in the Town Plan. I'm wondering if you will feel the same way when/ if they do a UCS Slave 1 or AT-AT. We already have 4 Slave 1's and 2 AT-AT's at System Scale.

Also, I have read a few comments from people on here, hat will not buy the Modular because they think it will mess with their town set up.

There are actually three System Scale AT-ATs.

I missed out on the town plan, so I'm perfectly happy to pick this up instead.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
Yeah, the main building that I wanted from Town Plan was the cinema. I wonder if this will be another corner. I wouldn't mind that. The only other modular that I own is GE and having one other corner building would fit perfectly on the shelf.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
I think a cinema fits perfectly on the 50's street. It was on my list of wants for a modular. Most downtowns had a cinema and people went to it a lot back then. What with a marquee, lights, ticket booth... they were unique buildings. In our downtown they rebuilt the cinema and it is one of the nicest theaters in town.

Does anyone know how much it costs in GBP?
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
No one knows how much it costs in any currency. The Eurobricks suggested price hasn't been confirmed by TLG.
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
Wonder how a yellow modular is going to fit in to the existing color scheme of the block? Imagining it might be too bright against the other earth tones.
  • MatthewMatthew Administrator Posts: 3,714
^^ Neither has the existence of the set for that matter, although I'd be prepared to put some serious money on it being legit.
  • emilewskiemilewski Member Posts: 482
I for one am super excited. I don't have town plan and would want a full-size one in any event. TH came out in March 2012. PS came out in May 2011. GE came out in March 2010. Do we have any idea when this one will come out? Are we going to call it CP (Cinema Palace)?
  • LegobrandonCPLegobrandonCP Member Posts: 1,917
All I know is that the official TH images were released to the public in mid-
February. Perhaps we will see some cinema images then?
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
Oh, I hope it's not yellow. Please, no. I don't even care if it's blue like the Town Plan.
  • emilewskiemilewski Member Posts: 482
Bright yellow might be a bit harsh, but what about a new "sand yellow" kind of color? Like a pastel..I would have to see it I guess.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
LEGO already has an offical "sand yellow" color - commonly referred to as "dark tan"

Looks like all the modular cinemas on Cuusoo just became obsolete. (If this news is true.)
  • RennyRenny Member Posts: 1,145
Great news indeed. I have been thinking about paying a king's ransom for a new Town Hall solely for the Cinema but now I don't have to. Patience (or bad timing) can sometimes pay off ;)
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
^^ cuusoo was never going to produce a 2000+ piece set anyway, and certainly not one that fits within a continuing line of products that they already cover well in house.
  • drdavewatforddrdavewatford Administrator Posts: 6,756
Delighted in principle.... While final judgment will obviously depend on how it turns out, there's enormous potential there. I have every confidence that LEGO will do us proud again, in which case this'll be a must-buy set.

I thought a cinema would be among the most likely subjects for the next modular. But I also thought the Aurora tragedy might shelve it for a while.

But that happened in America, not in Europe.

I don't think it's insensitive to produce the set.If TLG decided to do that, they would have to do that with almost every building they produce. Everyday here in Detroit, MI I turn on the morning news and there is a family that perished in a fire or several people die in a drive by shooting.

    That would be overly sensitive.

    @LegoBrandonCP: The U.S. is TLG's biggest market.

@Pitfall69: I'm not implying the company would be insensitive if it went ahead and produced a theater or is even remotely profiting from the tragedy. But TLG has demonstrated they are aware of controversial subjects and generally avoid them. I was suggesting that delaying the introduction of the set (and maybe rushing to produce a different one for 2013) would be a plausible thing for them to do.

Maybe 2013 is far enough out that it is no longer fresh on people's minds, but imagine if it came out this year. It doesn't take much for children to bring in some minifigures from other themes that happen to be armed or mix in their Joker minifig. All of a sudden a very strong image is evoked.

By the way, a mass murder that made national (and I'm guessing global) news is not the same as a fire with casualties.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
For what it is worth, it makes national and global news because it is indeed quite rare. People die in fires every single day, but it is a rare event that something like Aurora happens.

    Thankfully...

I'm hoping for a dark red cinema! Some are speculating a tan one, which IMO will look super boring next to the GE.
  • Penkid11Penkid11 Member Posts: 788
I could go for any of the above colors. Might I speculate with dark green.
