When they said limited they mean it!!! Wow!!!

It would be interesting to know how many they got in stock.

    Any guesses?

Based on 6 to a case and estimating about 80 cases per pallet, if they got one pallet, it would have only been 480.

    That seems a bit low...

I get 1040 assuming that you stack a pallet 6 feet tall.

Case material might take up some of that of course, but I allowed for a bit of that.

Minecraft is 4.8x5.6x4.8" in size, so you can get 13.4 of them in a cubic foot. A pallet is 3.3x4 foot in size, stack it 6 feet tall, about a thousand, give or take 50 depending on wasted space.

But I wouldn't think they would bother with 1 pallet. A company the size of LEGO, I would think they work in containers, not pallets. A standard 40' container has 20 pallets.

So that would be 20,000 copies of the set.

Given the postings online and that this was pre-announced, I would not be surprised if they moved 20,000 copies in 90 minutes.

But I have been wrong before. :)

I thought the pre-announced date was Monday 12/17? And neither Lego nor Amazon has a "notify me" email feature, so I just don't see it. I think Lego and Amazon each got one pallet - maybe two. I imagine that TLG took that shipping container and allocated it out to multiple retailers. I expect Jinx will list theirs Monday (smaller company, probably not working on the weekend). it's also listed (but not available) at Target, so they probably will get a pallet also.

^---Or LEGO is going to release these on multiple days to try to ensure that they get out to those that want them, not just those that want to flip them...

I think that much of this is the same mechanism at work that was around for XBox360 and Wii when they first came out... Because of small quantities most people that are getting in on these things at the retailer are simply turning around and listing them on eBay or Craigslist, etc.
Kudos to LEGo and Amazon limiting them to 1 per account, but that obviously is not going to stop those that have multiple accounts to buy as many as they can.

It will be interesting to see if they hold this demand after Christmas.. Yes I know it is popular and people want them, etc etc.. but the question is will LEGO continue to product these in quantities and eventually flood the market with them? Obviously these continue to sell well.

Or... I don't know... LEGO could just make MORE of them! :)

Sheesh, this isn't hard, crank up that production line!!!
  • DadsAFOLDadsAFOL Member Posts: 617
Yeah, they seem to have gotten much better at inventory management in the last year, but still room for improvement. Years ago the new year releases never hit retailers until after Christmas. Now we saw 2013 sets in November. They need to realign their marketing cycles and production cycles. If the new year sets are now the Christmas sales-driving sets, they need to get them all out earlier. Or they need to commit that the summer wave is the Christmas sales-driving one, and focus on meeting demand for those. It seems like they are trying to maintain an overlap of waves that they don;t have the production capacity to support.

This is of course... not such a bad problem to have! :)

It seemed to me that they put out new 2013 sets to fill the holes left in the lines that were sold out. All the small Technic sets were sold out on [email protected] in the US, so up popped the new ones. Same with City and Friends. Although Ninjago has next to nothing left for sale and they have not released those sets yet.

Amazon sold out faster than I thought it would so maybe the multiple days thing is accurate? Or Amazon simply had significantly less stock than Lego did, it's hard to say. Guess we'll know in a couple days!

I would say its easier to game amazon than Lego to order multiples
  • tomahawkertomahawker Member Posts: 204
I spoke to a CSR at [email protected] She told me they had 5,000 and they sold out in less than an hour. She did not expect to receive any more before Christmas.

Yes, resellers often have 5 or 10 (or more) accounts to get around the purchase limits. I don't play that game due to the risk of being caught, Amazon can and has banned buyers for that. But if you have multiple addresses to ship to and multiple credit cards to work with, you can probably get away with 5 of them.

I use two accounts, one for me and one for my wife, and I'm happy enough with that. Two accounts, two real people.

5,000 sets is just noise, what is LEGO thinking?

Both are very easy....neither company has any real stringent policy in place or motivation to introduce one.

Amazon does, if you abuse too many multiple buyer accounts, just Google search "Amazon banned buyer".

As for [email protected], they are canceling multiple orders, so you'd actually need multiple accounts here. Since this is not normal, most of the time they let you order over and over, I doubt most resellers have 10 accounts setup. I know that I don't, because they let you place order after order after order...

^ You do not need an account to order from [email protected]
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404

^ You do not need an account to order from [email protected]

True, but you do need multiple physical addresses to ship to, since they are enforcing a 1 per address limit on Minecraft.

^ If you live in an apartment complex and your neighbor buys one, does that mean you cannot? Most resellers I know seem to occupy multiple apartments.
  • BastaBasta Member Posts: 1,259
[email protected] Australia still has them and they seem to allow me to buy 5. But at $58 (assuming I buy 5) each shipped I don't know if its a good idea. They don't interest me and I would only be buying for resale, and I think that price will drop even more from the $90 they are fetching at the moment on eBay AU after Christmas.

Unless your apartment neighbor is in the same unit as you, then yes, they could. Most apartment complexes I know have the unit number either in the address as unit number, or like mine is its own street address. For example your unit is #3 then you are 3 anywhere st. or 100 anywhere st unit 3.

Wouldn't it be wise to change the title of this thread at this point? Seeing as they are not in stock at LEGO now?

Agreed. My hopes are raised everytime I see a new message in this thread with the current title.

I did not know Lego Minecraft was that popular nor Minecraft for that matter.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,787
Part of it is the popularity of Minecraft, but I think that it is also the popularity of selling them for 2 -3 times their RRP on eBay and other sites

It just appeared available on S&H in Canada. I just bought one!

Got one too. Was able to get it for $12.88 shipped after VIP points and a gift card.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,787
Ugh... 45 dollars after tax and shipping... I kinda hope the market is flooded with these now and be done with it.. I also noticed that Amazon.com 3rd party seller prices have dropped significantly.
  • chrisdojochrisdojo Member Posts: 169
SOLD OUT again. I think that almost lasted 3 days!

They must have gotten a ton in... but that will hold down prices for awhile, I expect it to take a month or more to recover now...

It should take longer each time, considering that more and more people who wanted this set are now getting it, demand has to slaken at some point.

I looks like this might be my last venture into Minecraft re-sale. Three days to sell out!?!
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404

3:36 and 4:13 am? I'm never gonna get in on that. I was sawing logs at that time of the morning.
  • lordzaraklordzarak Member Posts: 329
Jinx currently has it in stock.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^ Lol, wouldn't let me order since I ordered last month.
  • chrisdojochrisdojo Member Posts: 169
I tried to go to Jinx and got a warning from Trend Micro:
"The latest tests indicate that this URL contains malicious software or could defraud visitors."

Guess I can't get in to order... maybe for the better!
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
Jinx doesn't have them now. I had Jinx set up to notify me when they came back in stock and I never got an email. I'm thinking they weren't in stock long enough for the email to be sent.
