Is the main site slow for you at the moment?

It's running like treacle for me at the moment, I think it might be a database issue.

What's it like for you?

It looks like a network problem at the host's end as I can't connect to their VPN or the email server. I've asked them to look into it.

Have to say, the service you have received since you switched hosting company has been less than stellar IMO.

I see new features have been implemented for the forum. When you hover over a post now, you can "like, off topic, agree, and disagree" now.

I'm getting "HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable" responses for most pages on brickset.com at the moment.

Yep, me too, "Huwston, we have a problem!"

I'm not sure exactly what the problem was but I think I've got it up and running again.

For some reason the www.brickset.com site was giving an error

HTTP Error 503.2 - Service Unavailable
The [email protected] setting is being exceeded.

The m.brickset.com site was up and running, though. So, there was presumably some sort of configuration issue on the default site but given that nothing has changed recently, other than server patches, of course, I'm at a loss as to what. Googling the error didn't provide much help either.

I guess it could be indicative of a DoS attack, but I'm not expert (but I know someone here who is :-) )

So I created a new website on the server, copied the pages across, changed the www. mapping and -- touch wood -- it seems to be OK at the moment.

As soon as I map www.brickseet.com onto the newly created website the 503.2 occurs.

The site can be reached at http://www2.brickset.com/ at the moment and I think it's stable. I guess that suggests some sort of issue with the traffic on the www site: maybe it is a DDoS...

That would be a shame if it is a deliberate attack :( The access logs might shine some light on that.

It's identical equipment: the Northstar business was sold to OnRapm Indiana, and actually their tech support is pretty good. I think the only possible issue is around the US:UK time differences. It is supposed to be 24hr but whether they actually do much in the middle of their night, I'm not so sure.

Anyway, I found the problem, and the culprit, and have taken appropriate measures to ensure he can't do it again. There was nothing wrong with the server this time...

^ fair enough, it's just my perception that there have been more outages than normal recently but as you say, it's not all the hosting company's fault.

Sounds intriguing, don't suppose you'd care to elaborate :-)

Anyone else having problems connecting this afternoon?

I guess we should brace ourselves for hurricane Sandy. The servers are Indiana, is that likely to be affected?

^ Sandy is primarily hitting New Jersey and New York now. Indiana is quite a distance away but the traffic may be going through a major hub in one of the affected states.
