    @madforLego - I agree with your posts above...YoYo will likely climb, TRU not used much, waiting to see what happens with exclusive sets on Amazon this holiday season, and most importantly...wallet happy! :-)

    I may have been a bit loopy saying anything over 30%, but I recall some sets getting to 35% off. Most of the time smaller sets, not the $100 ones, but I had seen those hit 25% but lately I have seen those only hover around 10-15% off. Again maybe I am just noticing this because they are new sets that were recently release.
    I am hoping to see around 30% off for the newest Creator houses though (family and tree house)

    I guess here is another spin on this cutting out of the discounts on exclusives. If the AFOL's stop buying and sour on Lego, the kids of AFOL's stop requesting as the parents aren't into them anymore, the friends of the kids of the AFOL's stop getting involved in constant discussions about Lego, they don't buy as much Lego, and so on. We live in a very connected age. A butterfly's wingflap can cause a lot of damage.

    After reading other threads on this forum, my optimism is waning for any decent discounts on larger sets through the end of the year (including BF)...possibly until TLG fires the genius that killed off the discounts and simultaneously drove down TLG's revenue.

    I wonder if a few strategically placed "retiring soon" labels will get sales going again?

    On UK and EU sites, common no, but possible yes.

    ^ Funny... but the poor store employees can't help it, it's not under their control. There's one manager I know at a local TBR store who is a great guy and AFOL himself, and always goes out of his way to be sure that you leave as happy as can be. Poor fellow, last week I saw him having to deal with an AFOL grandma (really! who knew?) who had just dragged an armload of exclusives to the counter and wanted to use her coupon. He had to tell her it didn't apply to those sets. "Where does it say that?" He told her it was in the fine print on the coupon. "I can't read that. Can you read it?" He had to say no, he couldn't read it either. But what could he do? He gave her the last witch poly. Not much compensation if you were expecting to save $60, but he tried. TLG is putting these guys in a tough spot, and I feel bad for fellows like this.

    It is quite a position they are putting their employees in, but my mother has to deal with this day in and day out being an assistant manager at a Wal-Mart. "Whatcu mean I can't use this coupon?" "Sorry, this is for Lego miss" "This IS Legos " "No, miss, that is a MegaBlok set" "Awww hell Naw. You ain't usin dat mumbo jumbo on me. Legos... MegaBloks, same thing. I want my discount!!!" The stories she tells me.

    Notice I said Legos ;)

    If anyone has seen "Hardcore Pawn", then you know what I mean.

    And that is why store managers always need to have the authority to take care of customers.

    It is insane to think that a customer might walk up to the counter with $2,000 worth of LEGO (1 copy each of 5 different sets would do it), want to use the 10% off coupon on a single item, and the store manager can't help.

    BTW, Whole Foods has grown and grown, one of the reasons is their stores tend to have superior customer service.

    It sure isn't because they are cheap.

    they let me use the coupon on a #42009 the other day when I bought one. maybe one of the more expensive sets you can use it for...

    -edit- although this seems to have been mentioned a couple days ago anyway once I clicked on the link to make sure it was working lol

    On a related note, I walked into a Lego store this morning and asked if they had any pristine 10188's in the back (besides the banged-up, empty, display box on the shelf) to which they replied "no". About an hour later I called and asked the same guy if they would sell the display for a discount. He very politely replied that, even though they often did it in the past, if the manager tried it on exclusives now, the computer at the register would prevent it from happening. So, it really seems like exclusives are on complete lockdown.

    Anyone interested in the "exclusive" #31313 on a discount, check out B&N, this week-end only, you can stack BOGO50, 20% and 10% member discounts got one mindstorm for $158 and the other for $280 (could have been $252 if they had it in store, but they are shipping the 2nd one)

    LOL, I wonder if Lego has an employee or two surfing the interweb Lego pages gathering intel about discounts people are getting, what AFOL's want like the next UCS set, or 12k piece set, etc.

    Went to lego store last weekend to use coupon on a small set. Checkout took 10 minutes because the cashier had to get her manager to authorize the discount. Ridiculous (I had my 5 month old daughter strapped to me in a carrier and she was starting to get fussy). Almost walked out and left the set behind.

    This was with the 10% coupon? That seems odd. I had no issue/wait in using mine.

    Me neither, was the set borderline 'exclusive' or was the employee new and did not know how to process the coupon?
    I see all sorts of issues at LEGO stores. From new employee (which is not really an issue to me as they have to learn sometime) to system issues where they have to reboot the computer. Stuff happens, and I never expect a retail transaction to always be quick.

    Especially when you consider that LEGO is the mfg of the product. Walmart, Amazon, Target are not getting a cut of the profit, so I'm sure LEGO direct purchases to the consumer are more profitable for LEGO than those to retailers.

    Course, on the flip side I figure LEGO can't tell retailers that they can't discount certain sets then discount them themselves. If so, retailers would not be able to compete with LEGO stores. So, no one can discount.

    Looks like the managers at the Lego store in Braintree, Mass were doing a good job. Got my Technic Mobile Crane MK II with the 10% coupon, no clone trooper though.

    Mine was a $30 set also. The Hobbit Elrond set. Absolutely no issue. The coupons are meant to be used on most items in the store, so they can 't make the normal process one where a manager has to go over everytime for a simple coupon. Very odd that you had such a strange experience. Maybe something was up with that register so that it wasn't locking out exclusives yet?

    I had a similar experience to hoyatables: it took 10 min to check out with one item and the 10% off coupon. The problem was (1) the clerk was new, and (2) the coupon had to be scanned before the items were scanned. If the item was scanned first, the order had to be cleared and then re-entered. Took the guy who waited on me 3 times to get the protocol correct.

    It could be that I got a new employee as well. Also had to deal with the nonsense that they have to scan the coupon and VIP Card in the right order.

    Anyone had any luck using expired coupons? I've heard people say they've used them a day late and it was fine, but I totally forgot to use mine this time and it's already 3 days past expiration. Any chance you think they'd still take it?

    I'm kind of at that point where I'm fed up with LEGO and just don't have time/money for it, so I'm resorting to only buying something when I can get a discount... And I haven't bought anything in some time so I'm sorta feigning right now

    ^ depends on the store and/or employee. there is nothing in their system that outright prevents them from accepting the coupon, so it largely comes down to the customer service aspect in the store, and how much they want to make you happy

    Latest tidbit I have heard is there will be scratchies for varying percentage offs as well as the shopping spree this BF. This may get interesting yet. I doubt even TLG is moronic enough to not allow the scratchy discount to be used on exclusives - but I must admit they do keep surprising me.

    ^ interesting, I had heard a week or so ago that scratchies were definitely NOT happening. But at the same time the same source said that there was very little in the way of solid black Friday information, so it may be that the plans are still evolving.

    one thing I know for sure - if LEGO is dumb enough to have scratchers for % discounts but excludes exclusives, they deserve all the blowback they get that day.

    I mean I have gotten catalogs with coupons and without.
    It would not surprise me in the least if LEGO got sick of the 10% coupon complaints as to what it can and cannot be used on that they got rid of them altogether.
    But I'm guessing it is just this catalog did not have the coupon

    Scratchies or not, living two hours from a LBR store means I have to hope there will be something enticing online. At least 10% off and a freebie like last year. And the $5 off promo code c/o Pottery Barn Kids was a nice cherry on top.

    No coupon for me either this time. I think that is a first, but would have to double check.

    It's beginning to look like a lot like... Stinginess. TLG needs a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Past.
