Let's face it, Star Wars ep 1 was the worst of all of them...

Errrrrr... Episodes II and III beg to differ.
They were all really bad, they were just to cheesy. They are one of those movies you watch just to know the rest of a story that you were trying to find out.

^That would be a cool build. I would like to see the Trade Federation Transport from episode 1 made into a UCS set. You could fit a ton of droids inside a 3-4,000 piece set!!

Most definitely, I was thinking of doing a MOC of mini one using the death star from the planet series.

So, will we get a reveal of the Slave-1 on June 1st as we did the Ewok village last year?

Are you telling us or asking?

Just wait. With Star Wars Rebels coming out, we'll soon have hot pink/purple Boba Fetts.

More rumours are emerging about the slave 1 on youtube (how accurate is anyone's guess) apparently will be as big as the recent system scale star destoryer set which is 19" long I think and contain a new boba fett figure which comes as no real suprise.
  • Rumors are over, and noone is talking about it!

What do y'all think? It's nice, but for some reason I was expecting more. Hard to tell without a designer video or looking at it in person. I'll probably still end up purchasing it.

Interestingly, I can only find one (very half baked) attempt at a UCS Republic Gunship online. It's the most ubiquitous craft from the prequels/Clone Wars, and the structure of the craft itself has a good degree of complexity that, fully detailed, would be great on UCS scale. Hopefully we'll get one from TLG sooner rather than later.

I started researching the scale of different Star Wars ships because of the conversation here, and found some interesting Star Wars/Star Trek comparisons.

    Cool pictures...

Ignoring technology differences, I find it amazing that ships have not gotten bigger than the 1980 Super Star Destroyer. And that nothing is in the Death Star range.

I say technology, because regardless of size, a Borg cube at 3k would stomp a SSD any day of the week. :)

The Death Star isn't in there, but it would be difficult to represent in those images if you remember the scene in Jedi where the Executor crashes into it.

Additionally, so far as I know, there are no 'official' schematics for the Death Star, though the following link provides interesting analysis of how big it might be.

    http://www.theforce.net/SWTC/ds/index.html

There is so much bad info there, while it is fun, it is rather pointless.

As an example, it talks about the gravity effects of the first Death Star's arrival in the Yavin system and the effect it would have on Yavin IV, acting as a new moon from a gravity and tidal point of view due to the size of the station.

Blah, size has nothing to do with it, mass does, and the Death Star wouldn't have even 1% of the mass of a real moon! it is mostly hollow.

    http://www.theforce.net/SWTC/ds/propulsion.html#sublight.limits

Read the end of that, Side Effects.

The Death Star isn't likely massive enough to really matter in that case.

Yeah... not for at least another decade. It would also defeat the purpose of the C for "collector's"

I hope that it's only a speculation but it wouldn't be bad if the prices came back on the earth..

The press release confirms a January 2015 release. So much for triple VIP in November on this (at least this November :) ).
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,161
That looks a lot better than even the box pics led me to believe. The curve downwards of the rear of the base (near the cargo doors) and the subtle tilt upwards of the top lines towards the back are so accurate. Can't believe they couldn't get this out for Christmas.
  • gold682gold682 Member Posts: 257
Wonder if the likes of Smyths or Argos will stock is as part of their "exclusive" range?
  • B0SSKB0SSK Member Posts: 175
OH MAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The slave 1 will be mine !!! However, I am not too convinced with the rear cargo bay loading system. Surely they could have just made like a cassette slot for the han in carbonate to slide into, and then han could be ejected with a little gear/lever once the rear cargo doors are opened?

As much as I wanted it, I have no space for it. However, after seeing the designer vid, I will have to make space for it as it's just irresistible. Day One set to me.
  • BELTRADBELTRAD Member Posts: 91
That looks so much bigger in that video that I thought it was going to be. Def going to have to get this one.
  • MathiasMathias Member Posts: 94
I don't have any version of the slave I or any UCS model. Also, I need a boba for my collection. This will be a day one purchase for me. I've been saving those VIP points for a reason. Wish a lando came with it instead of a stormtrooper but oh well. I still like stormtroopers.

I'm out of room too. Might be time to get rid of the non-UCS stuff, or start display rotation.

I have over the past few weeks boxed up a lot of stuff to make room for the more interesting stuff like this. I also am not loving the bottom of the set it seems a little too unfinished to me. It was weird that in the video they were saying that it was highly detailed compared to other sets. But for me I actually preferred what the old ones looked like on the bottom. But the underside of a it will not stop me from buying it
  • jediami65jediami65 Member Posts: 474
Ok have watched the video a few times now...have not built any of my SW UCS sets yet, so do any have actual firing mechanisms? I like this UCS Salve 1 version and will sell my other two versions for it but just seems like they could have done a little better on the weapons side...and for those that say "for display only" I know that but still could have fit that in.

My other issue is the seat could have be made to rotate from flight mode to landing mode without removing the cockpit cover.

  • monkey_roomonkey_roo Member Posts: 1,411
Just great looking, can't wait to get this one.

However... I am now wondering what sort of UCS offering we will get and when we will get them in 2015. A greedy thought I know :) but in the last few years we have got a major SW set in May and then again around October. With Slave 1 launching in Jan can we really expect a major May release? Maybe but I would be surprised to see two big hitters so close together, so maybe we get another set closer to Christmas next year (can't think what major film event that will tie in with).

I know this lovely Slave 1 isn't even out yet I am think about what might be next, but might we see a different sort of May 4th release next year (I.e. No UCS) and will the rumours of a new UCS Falcon come to fruition at the back end of 2015 as part of what will be one of the biggest media/PR/promotion campaigns in recent film history?

Strange how the official video didn't show off the minifigs (esp Boba!), the unique parts (like that huge windshield), etc. Regardless - looks really nice, and I love how the display stand shows it in flight mode.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
Video definitely shows how much bigger it is than it originally seemed in the pictures. Will probably be a day 1 purchase for me. Will have to find out what boxes my other slave 1's are in so I can put it next to the system one and Anio's for comparison.

If they do another UCS Falcon it'll probably be modeled on the Ep 7 incarnation and contain half the pieces for four fifths the price.

Probably a Day One for me as well. After seeing the next wave, I was relieved to see some effort on LEGO's part.
  • edgarallanpoe1422edgarallanpoe1422 Member Posts: 131
I'm interested to know what SW UCS sets people think are candidates to be remade in the near future, and which are sufficiently 'definitive' that Lego is likely to leave them alone indefinitely. Specifically, I'm thinking of:

    #10019
    #10026
    #10030
    #10129
    #10143
    #10144
    #10134
    #10175
    #10174

Probably the Snowspeeder, ISD, and Naboo Starfighter and the most likely, then the Blockade Runner, and then the rest.
  • LegoboyLegoboy Member Posts: 8,826
#10129 Snowspeeder would be the most likely I would have thought. We're unlikely to see a third Sandcrawler anytime soon. ;)
  • edgarallanpoe1422edgarallanpoe1422 Member Posts: 131
Definitely agree re: snowspeeder. It's one of those early UCS models that you felt had one foot in the past and one foot in the future. It was only until the #10134 UCS Y-Wing the very next year in 2004 that you felt the modelling and design work on the SW range fully 'graduated' into its modern level of sophistication. Honestly you could release the #10134 now and it wouldn't look at all out of place, and it's hard to imagine a redesign being able to improve on it. By comparison, the #10129 despite being a fantastic model doesn't quiiite manage to climb all the way out of its era.
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,161
I'd like to see ISD redone (if they have to get a redo done rather than an AT-AT) - it ties in with the Rebels too (although their ISDs seem to have a longer neck on the bridge section (accurate for the era, or just an animation stylisation?).
  • DougoutDougout Member Posts: 888
The ISD and Snowspeeder are really good candidates. I would also like to see the AT-ST redone. The first one is great, but I want to see a bigger one.

    http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Slave-I-75060

Are we certain about that January 1st release date? This seems awfully early to list a set that won't be available for another three months.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ I thought the release with video or FB page said November.
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,161
November would do nicely for Christmas, it would also make it more likely we'll get a UCS slot for May 4th 2015 (come on ISD/AT-AT!). Doubt we'd get an ISD until the SSD has been gone a year.
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,161
Can't see a UK version of that link, but $199 usually = £159.99
  • LobotLobot Member Posts: 1,026
    ^Press release details:

    'US $199.99 - CA $229.99 - DE 199.99€ - UK £169.99 - DK 1699.00 DKK
*Euro pricing varies by country. Please visit shop.LEGO.com for regional pricing'

It still looks better value than the X-Wing, and certainly more interesting to build!

^ mid-Dec earlybird VIP release just in time for Christmas in all likelihood.
  • iso3200iso3200 Member Posts: 2,065

more likely we'll get a UCS slot for May 4th 2015 (come on ISD/AT-AT!).

I've been told that the May 4th 2015 set will be a UCS Tie. About a month ago I was lead to believe it would be another Vader tie, but she backtracked on that today. Not sure if that means we'll be getting a bomber or fighter, but that's what to expect in next years slot.
