Minifigs are great as long as they are unique, I don't need any more Lukes or Han Solos, I don't care what their outfit looks like. The Jawas should be cool. It would be nice to get some more Ewoks and I would be happy if they redid the clone troopers again. I need to build up my armies.

I think that list pretty much covers what UCS sets are missing from the OT. I would be VERY interested in many of those.

I would also like to see them do large-scale vignettes, like Echo Base/Hoth Battlefield, Tatooine/Mos Eisley, Dagobah, Bespin, etc. Perhaps done in the mini/micro size. These would probably be labelled as something other than UCS though, unless they broaden the term.

I would also think that within 2 years they will start shifting over to Episode VII to IX (and the in-between movies) UCS sets, at least until that run is over and things balance out again.

I would also like to see them take another crack at the Imperial Star Destroyer - this time without the magnets.

Magnets were fine if you had them pointing in the right direction - opposite poles. ;o)

I would like to see more sets like the Super Star Destroyer, which are not in Minifigure scale but include a few exclusive Minifigures to justify the purchase for Minifigure collectors as well as UCS buyers.

I would pay a great deal of money for an updated Millennium Falcon complete with internal details as well as the excellent exterior which the previous edition had. Perhaps an Empire Strikes Back version featuring Bespin versions of the characters?

I love how this set is about rumours but some people just dismiss anything they read.

If this does turn out to be true I can completely see the logic. It's not exactly a secret that TLG are doing all they can to put off resellers and this is one of the biggest sets for the resale market. Also let's not forget all the negative response to the Sandcrawler getting UCS status.

Of course I don't believe anything until I see it from an official source so we will have to wait and see.

You say Lego is trying to "put off" resellers. I don't think they care that much about resellers imo. They have made a few examples out of people and have imposed limits on certain items, but I think that is just to keep everyone happy. Mr. Gold and #41999 goes against your theory.

I need to clarify that it's not me who's saying "Lego is trying to put off resellers" this was stated by the proprietor of the retail store as an explanation for Lego allegedly releasing another UCS MF.
It is not my theory. I'm just repeating what I was told.

^ You are clearly saying it. He just said it before you did.

Well maybe if Lego is trying to eliminate resellers maybe they could maybe make a new cloud city set... maybe... just gotta hope.

After dismal sales of both the B-wing and X-wing, I can very much see them starting to pull away from UCS display sets altogether and put more effort into large playsets.

It will be interesting to see how Slave 1 sales fair. People want minifigures. The world want minifigures.

sadly, this is so true. LEGO continues to become less and less about the build, and more and more about how many minifigures we can cram into a set and charge people for. Look at the new mixer for a non-IP example.

UCS sets in order of preference:

AT-AT AGREED, BUT IT'S BEEN DONE A COUPLE TIMES IN 1000+ PIECES
    Slave I THIS YEAR
    Tie Bomber UNLIKELY
    A-Wing UNLIKELY
    Speeder Bike UNLIKELY
    Escort Frigate WILL NEVER HAPPEN
Tie Fighter GLARING OMISSION TO THIS POINT
Mon Calimari Star Cruiser WILL NEVER HAPPEN
    Land Speeder GREAT CHOICE
Imperial Probot ala R2-D2 WILL NEVER HAPPEN

I think at this point the hardcore have to accept some unwanted reality. More than half the items on this list just don't have enough mass appeal to be done at UCS prices. The AT-AT, TIE Fighter, and Speeder are the only three on the list that stand a chance, and the AT-AT has been done in large playsets several times. the motorized version is pretty close to what a UCS set would be anyway, so I suspect that ship may have sailed. The other two might be done in by recent lackluster sales of UCS sets that haven't sported a plethora of minifigs - X-Wing, B-Wing, SSD, Obi-Wan, etc.

As we are drifting to wish list again I will add one extra. the Episode 1 Royal Starship, it may be prequel but it is a lovely ship and would look great in UC scale.

⬆⬆ the motorised at-at is nothing like a ucs version would be. Its by far the worst looking of the 3 versions to date.

Indeed, an UCS ATAT should have at least double the part count than the motorized one.

I'm guessing lego will want (or even are obliged) to always have a falcon on the shelves (an X wing too). The current system one must be reaching towards end of line. The SSD is surely almost done too.

If so they'll be looking for a new top of the line display set and a replacement MF. If it's a significant part of the new film then all the better (and no need to wait for the release of the film) go early and get the usual early sales and then a second bonanza when the films pr kicks in.

It all makes sense and if it also happens to impact on resellers thats just a bonus for whichever part of TLG that doesnt like them.

To be honest, recent poor sales of UCS sets will make sticking to known quantities more appealing.

I also expect a DS like treatment of cloud city as it's replacement too. But this could all be wishful thinking! :-S

I hope we get some sort of announcement or official confirmation of the slave 1 ucs set soon, the suspense is killing me! Sadly I get the feeling that we are still a few months away from any news or information being released by TLG.

It depends when they plan to release it. Ewok Village was revealed June 1, with a September release. B-Wing was revealed July 6, with an October release.

It may be slightly flawed in the looks department I'll admit, but it walks...and I guess a fair bit of accuracy had to be sacrificed for that....it's still one of my favourite sets :-)

I would bet a UCS Stormtrooper blaster, Han Solo gun, and lightsabers would do very well.

I'm sure the justification against them is that LEGO doesn't want to sell replica guns, but it's almost shocking how much weaponry is in LEGO sets overall. (at least, for a company that tries to present an image where guns are not a part of the mix)

Light sabers are doable. I can see why they wouldn't do guns. I would love to have a collection of Lego Lightsabers. You push a light up brick and a light comes out like a flashlight.

Technically, lighsabers are made from old photo flash units, so I don't see how anyone could mistake this for an actual real life weapon.

Make the ones that don't have "mass appeal" and slap a Limited Edition on the box like #41999 and they would sell out in just a few days.

I think an AT-AT and an A-Wing are overdue, and I would like to see the ARC-170 get a proper UCS treatment, though that's probably not high on the priority list for most. A UCS Slave I would be nice and would give people a good reason to display Obi-Wan's Delta-7...and since I don't have a link to a cool UCS Slave I project, here's Master Oogway doing his thing, in Lego form.

Honestly, I don't think I'd be interested in either of the speeders at any price point too far north of $50, but I do believe both could probably be done well enough right about there.

  • mressinmressin Member Posts: 843
Yeah, wishlist... how about if the next UCS was that cool new starship design from J.J. Abram's Episode VII?
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,540
An A-Wing might be fun for the hardcore but I doubt it would sell any better than the B-Wing did. Biggest plus is it isn't bley/dark bley but it is also a fairly boring wedge shape that probably would not lead to the interesting, challenging build a lot of us would want out of it.

Maybe the A-wing could be a less expensive UCS set? It would need to be smaller than the Delta 7 from a few years ago, so how about an £80 price point with around 1000 pieces? That would be big enough to do it justice in my opinion.
  • binaryeyebinaryeye Member Posts: 1,831

Since you suggest more pieces, did you mean to write it would need to be larger than the Delta 7?

A properly done A-Wing to the scale of #10240 would need to be in the 1200 piece range, I think.

^ I had intended to write smaller, but I stand corrected. Somehow I had always imagined the A-wing at closer to the size of an Eta-3.
  • binaryeyebinaryeye Member Posts: 1,831
That's my own image, so don't take it as gospel. But it is based on overhead "schematic" images scaled to the measurements listed at Wookieepedia, so should be fairly accurate.
  • CaptAPJTCaptAPJT Member Posts: 223
Having had the B-Wing, Y-Wing and X-Wing(twice) as UCS it stands to reason that LEGO will let us complete the set with the A-Wing, it was responsible for taking out the super star destroyer afterall 'Intensify the forward firepower!'

^ I can understand not doing it seeing that it is a ball with 2 sheets of metal attached to it. I would think it would be hard to design one that looks significantly better than the system one when 80% of the ship is 1 or 2 plates thick.

The Death Star isn't in there, but it would be difficult to represent in those images if you remember the scene in Jedi where the Executor crashes into it.

Additionally, so far as I know, there are no 'official' schematics for the Death Star, though the following link provides interesting analysis of how big it might be.

Does it take into account that people were thought to be a lot shorter 'a long time ago...'

    According to my research:

The first Death Star was 160 kilometers in diameter while the second Death Star was 900 kilometers in diameter.

People on Earth were shorter a long time ago, but it's anyone's guess what things were like in a galaxy far, far away... especially when even the rats were two friggin' meters long.

I didn't know the transport ships were that small. Kinda always thought they were bigger than the Tantive IV...

Sorry in advance if it's been posted before, but those scale comparison pictures reminded me of this article about building a minifig-scale Death Star. For those wondering, it would apparently be roughly 3.52 km (yes, kilometers) in diameter.

That would come in quite a large box...shipping might be a little pricey. :-)

Let's face it, Star Wars ep 1 was the worst of all of them but there is still one ship from that I want to see as a USC set: the Trade Federation Battleship. I personally think it would be fun to build (and a hard build with its shape).
