I would also like to see them do large-scale vignettes, like Echo Base/Hoth Battlefield, Tatooine/Mos Eisley, Dagobah, Bespin, etc. Perhaps done in the mini/micro size. These would probably be labelled as something other than UCS though, unless they broaden the term.
I would also think that within 2 years they will start shifting over to Episode VII to IX (and the in-between movies) UCS sets, at least until that run is over and things balance out again.
I would pay a great deal of money for an updated Millennium Falcon complete with internal details as well as the excellent exterior which the previous edition had. Perhaps an Empire Strikes Back version featuring Bespin versions of the characters?
It is not my theory. I'm just repeating what I was told.
If so they'll be looking for a new top of the line display set and a replacement MF. If it's a significant part of the new film then all the better (and no need to wait for the release of the film) go early and get the usual early sales and then a second bonanza when the films pr kicks in.
It all makes sense and if it also happens to impact on resellers thats just a bonus for whichever part of TLG that doesnt like them.
To be honest, recent poor sales of UCS sets will make sticking to known quantities more appealing.
I also expect a DS like treatment of cloud city as it's replacement too. But this could all be wishful thinking! :-S
I'm sure the justification against them is that LEGO doesn't want to sell replica guns, but it's almost shocking how much weaponry is in LEGO sets overall. (at least, for a company that tries to present an image where guns are not a part of the mix)
Technically, lighsabers are made from old photo flash units, so I don't see how anyone could mistake this for an actual real life weapon.
Honestly, I don't think I'd be interested in either of the speeders at any price point too far north of $50, but I do believe both could probably be done well enough right about there.
A properly done A-Wing to the scale of #10240 would need to be in the 1200 piece range, I think.
Additionally, so far as I know, there are no 'official' schematics for the Death Star, though the following link provides interesting analysis of how big it might be.

According to my research:
The first Death Star was 160 kilometers in diameter while the second Death Star was 900 kilometers in diameter.
Sorry in advance if it's been posted before, but those scale comparison pictures reminded me of this article about building a minifig-scale Death Star. For those wondering, it would apparently be roughly 3.52 km (yes, kilometers) in diameter.
That would come in quite a large box...shipping might be a little pricey. :-)
