Sheffield (UK) Get Together

edited September 2012 in Community and Events
It seems that the recent LEGO Store opening in Sheffield has brought a few more fans out of the wood work and in a few introduction topics it has been suggested about arranging a get together for those who live in Sheffield, Yorkshire and wider still who would like to get together in Sheffield?

So who is interested and anyone have any ideas about when, where etc. Maybe meet up and go for a meal so we can all get to know one another?

Put your name down if your interested and lets see what we can come up with.

A few people to mention who might be interested:

It's a bit far for me as I'm in Cheltenham. Sounds fun though.

I thought you could stay where you did for grand opening ;)

I like the idea. What about a meet up at meadowhall so we could spend some time in the Lego store too, would be a great chance to talk about/share reactions to sets.

^^ well yes, that is a possibility.

I was thinking about a meal at one of the nice restaurants in the Oasis and then we can go to the store before/after. We can always add more to the meet up

    Who do you watch/play for?

What about a Friday night for people?

Play on Thursdays with work (I'm rubbish, get out of breath building Lego these days), season ticket holder at Wednesday
  • bricksanbricksan Member Posts: 566
Wish i could afford a season ticket and LEGO, luck sod ;-)

So what about others Friday a good day or not?
  • legonut80legonut80 Member Posts: 314
I'm interested, Friday is good on some weeks for us depends what my husband is working. Is anyone bringing their children or is it just for adults? I have 3 little ones so would be able to get there for about 4:30pm, or if it's a later thing without children I'll have to see if I can get someone to babysit.

I'm in if it's a weekend. Can't do through the week as I work in Watford.
  • bricksanbricksan Member Posts: 566
Well once everyone has replied etc we can come up with a date that suits us all. :-)
  • woodstockwoodstock Member Posts: 31
Monday is the only day I can't do. With enough notice I can do any other day. If its through the week I won't be able to get down till 6ish.
  • bricksanbricksan Member Posts: 566
Great that is another one making 9 people including myself who have said there are interested, anyone else?
  • MinifigsMeMinifigsMe Member Posts: 2,844

Right for those who are interested, I need a people to select their preferred date and venue to eat:

I am looking at middle to late October before the kids half term and before Meadowhall starts getting silly busy leading up to Xmas. Meadowhall is manic on a Saturday and the LEGO Store is a no go on a Saturday for a large group.

So I am thinking of either Friday night where we go to the store first followed by a group meal or a Sunday afternoon.

I aim to arrange a few treats for those going but I won't say till I have things confirmed, if you are wanting to attend then please select your preferred date and place to eat. The majority vote wins.

Dates to select from in October:
    Fri 19th,
    Sun 21st,
    Fri 26th,
    Sun 28th

Friday would be an evening meet up at around 7pm with a trip to the store followed by a sit down meal at a pre-booked restaurant.

Sunday would be the same but afternoon around 3pm with a trip to the store followed by a sit down meal at a pre-booked restaurant.

Obviously if these dates are no good to anyone then a rethink will be done.

Next you have a choice of places to eat from the following:
    ChaoBaby,
    Frankie & Benny's,
    Giraffe,
    Handmade Burger Co.,
    La Tasca,
    Nando's,
    Pizza Express,
    TGI Friday's,
    Wagamama,
    Zizzi,
    Coal Grill and Bar,
    Las Iguanas

Details of all these can be found on this site: http://www.meadowhall.co.uk/food.aspx

One the date and meal venue is selected, I will then need people to confirm their attendance so I can make the arrangements.

If the event is a success I will look at making it a regular thing but expand on it to be much more. However we as a group can discuss that at the meal.

    @Try001 @TyoSolo @woodstock @beets665 @historyman @legonut80 @Savage_Steel @mcvitie @hantot, @collect_that @atkinsar and anyone else planning to attend

Any of those dates are fine with me, but Friday means drinks :-) and Sunday means school-night :-(. Do you think you could talk the store into letting us do some sort of master build?

Oh, and I'll eat anywhere, but my preferences are: Nando's, Coal, Handmade... then everything else.
  • bricksanbricksan Member Posts: 566
Once I have the date I am going to speak to Kevin about arranging something. I spoke to him on Friday hence the no to Saturday as it's too busy and would not be any good trying to sort out anything special for us.
  • atkinsaratkinsar Member Posts: 4,258
Unfortunately I'll have to bow out as I'm on holiday over all of those dates.
  • hantothantot Member Posts: 284
26th is the only possible date i could make, FYI on the 19th SWFC are at home vs Leeds, Meadowhall should be out of the way but just a word of warning
  • MinifigsMeMinifigsMe Member Posts: 2,844
    19th/21st prob ok for me
  • woodstockwoodstock Member Posts: 31
I can't do the 19th. All other dates are fine and I will eat anywhere.
  • bricksanbricksan Member Posts: 566
@rich69 would you be interested in doing a meet up with the rest of us?

Also need details from those who are coming so can make arrangements soon please.

Friday 19th is the only one my Husbands not working, we just need to see if we can get a babysitter. As for food we like most things really.

I can only do sundays as i have to work till 10pm on fridays but i can do any sunday
  • sirrich69sirrich69 Member Posts: 528
@bricksan I live in the midlands, a 2hr drive for me. Don't think I will be able to make it. I shall keep an eye on the date and if free then see if I can get a passout.

I have a sale with @ToyoSolo nearly agreed, so suggested in my marketplace sale post, if anyone is coming to Steam from the Sheffiled area, then they may be able to collect the small package from me and transport to Sheffield for ToyoSolo to collect. However just realised the planned Sheffield meet up is earlier than Steam. Suspect back to the drawing board!!

Clearly suffering from blonde moments earlier.

Sorry, don't know how I missed the discussion! Would be great to meet up. all of the dates seem good to me though Fridays often get messy so probably better on the Sundays. And as for the food I'm easy!
  • Try001Try001 Member Posts: 83
On a separate note. I work across the road from meadowhall and often have a 15min loiter in the Lego store from 12.30. If anyone fancies a more impromptu meet.

Hey guys here is the latest:

There will be a Sheffield AFOL evening on the 26th October 2012. The small event is the first planned for AFOLs in Sheffield, Yorkshire and those further a field who want to attend.

The event is a meet up at Meadowhall Sheffield, with a visit to the Sheffield Brand Store. After that there is a planned site down meal. The date which is best for the majority of people interested is the Friday 26th October.

Those attending (must be confirmed via email in advance) will be meeting outside the Brand store between 7:00pm and 7:30pm. The table for the meal is booked for 8:30pm, the meal is planned at TGI Fridays as they offer a wide range of options and cater for everyone.

For those attending a few small activities and treats are planned. If the event is a success there are plans to do more in future.

If you are attending this event you need to email me at [email protected] by the 12th October to book your place (and those who are coming with you). Please note this is an adult only event so you must be 18 and over to attend.

Who else is coming out of the below people let me know via email or pm etc

    @Try001 @woodstock @historyman @legonut80 @mcvitie @hantot, @collect_that

    just double checking dates etc!
  • woodstockwoodstock Member Posts: 31
    I confirmed last night :D
  • woodstockwoodstock Member Posts: 31
    Hi,

For people attending I think it will be a great and easy way to sell/trade sets.

    On that note ;)

I bought #9465 The Zombies from Argos yesterday.
I'm just wanting £24 each 2x available or possibly an equivalent rrp priced set trade.

Hopefully getting #9468 The Vampyre Castles on Sunday.
2x will be available at £54 each.

I would have got 3 for 2 on more sets and if I get time to track an Argos down that has x3 of the same set like more MF, LOTR and SH I might. I just don't want my wife to go to prison for murder. :D

    Anyone else wanna sell/trade?
  • Try001Try001 Member Posts: 83
Absolutely gutted! I've been invited to a Halloween party on the 26th(devil or captain America I can't decide). I'll have to catch up with you all some other time! Still humming and arrhing over steam this weekend (how long would it take to get there?)
  • bricksanbricksan Member Posts: 566
From Sheffield over 3 hrs, hence why I have decided to not go, too far to drag the family along when they would get bored within an hour, maybe next year I will do train and stay over.
  • woodstockwoodstock Member Posts: 31
I looked at doing the Harry Potter Tour, Legoland Windsor then Steam but couldn't get the time off work. To just do Steam, its the fuel cost alone that made my mind up to not go. Maybe next year :D
  • Try001Try001 Member Posts: 83
Right if I can get 2-4 others in the car with me to share petrol I'd be tempted to go saturday! set off from meadowhall train station at 7.30 in the morning but have to set off back between 3 and 3.30. Anyone interested? I know it's not exactly a full weekend but its the best I would get my how!
  • Try001Try001 Member Posts: 83
    My how = anyhow lol
  • woodstockwoodstock Member Posts: 31
    Road Trip!!! :D
  • bricksanbricksan Member Posts: 566
So @Try001 are you serious about attending as I might be interested in sharing the petrol cost?
