LEGO 2013 and 2014 Set Rumors

It is rumoured that in the retailers 2013 Lego catalogue there is going to be some new Lego teenage mutant ninja turtles keyrings and sets for 2013 and 2014 in time for the new film and cartoon. Please could you post more recent news about this below in the comments, thanks.

This I could see as the Ninjago successor. It would make sense that they end Ninjago if they were able to secure the TMNT license.

Interesting... never heard of that website but they seem to have been 'on the money' with other predictions.

But wouldn't replacing Ninjago with TMNT be just more of the same though? And why buy a license to a TV show, when you already have your own successful show and toy theme?

@sidersdd on this other Lego website it says teenage mutant ninja turtles is a nickelodeon license because its a cartoon on nickelodeon so perhaps this could be a replacement for spongebob and also that means the Lego group already have a license for nickelodeon so they could easily make this into a theme

I can confirm this. I don't have evidence but I work with Nickelodeon and they are due out with release of all their new merchandise which is comin out with the re-launch.

Target this morning already had out TMNT toys on an endcap in the toy section. Obviously as teamladd stated, at a minimum there is a re-relaunch of TMNT toys.

On the other hand, a guaranteed full theme that I won't want to buy a single set from would actually be quite useful for me financially.

^I would agree, but I wasn't intending to get all the LotR sets. Now only three to go :P At best I probably still won't buy TMNT. I mean Spongebob had awesome pieces, but I still regret, to this day, buying the ones I did. We'll have to see.

I'm actually pretty excited about this line - many, many fond memories from my childhood.

I have a couple of the mega block minigfigs from a few years back. Got them in an unsorted lot of lego and thought they were pretty neat. Can't wait to replace them with Lego's version!

I hear you though. I had no idea there was a new cartoon and movie coming out until I read this thread. TLG would not be releasing sets based on TMNT unless there was additional media to coincide with it. Just like LotR would not have been a theme for LEGO if The Hobbit movies weren't coming out.

earliest star wars was the 70's/80s but the 6th movie was a 2005 thing but star wars looks like it's a long term constant thing and not a fad that comes and goes(TMNT)

Nickelodeon is doing a huge relaunch of the franchise and LEGO does hold a general licensing deal for Nickelodeon, so it certainly makes sense.

When I was up at a meeting with Nickelodeon and they said turtles lego was coming I suddenly started getting very excited. I am a huge fan of the Turtles ever since the original 80/90s cartoon and films. I for one cant wait to see these sets.

Pretty sure the TMNT has been consistent with its presence in popculture. Heck, the new 6" TMNT Classic figures have been selling out with the older collectors. And with the new cartoon launch this fall, it's a not a bad idea to give this franchise a shot by Lego.

This is what I was told by one of the heads at Nickelodeon. I work within the publishing industry and had a meeting with them to discuss the books we are creating for Dora, Spongebob and TMNT.

Personally, I love TMNT, though I don't care for what I've seen of this iteration at all (April O'Neil as a 12-year old? No thanks). That aside, I'd probably pick up enough sets to get the four turtles and Shredder, but I feel like TMNT is in a similar boat with LotR: Way more characters than practical sets. As it stands right now, you could get a few sets out of a modular style sewer... and then do a set of the Shell Raiser... and then whatever the villains' lair turns out to be (it's not the Technodrome). And I feel like that's it. Certainly enough to get the core characters, but not much beyond that.

If you're talking about the image that's making the rounds--that's because it's of the computer animated turtles from the new TV show--those aren't minifigs.

Mega B***s did Teen Age Mutant Ninja Turtles. I don't understand the reason Lego would take this theme. As a building toy, it's leftovers after the competition has wiped their butt with it. This is the first rumour I actually don't believe there's any chance of being real.

Megablocks had also done Marvel and PotC before, so it seems they're quite happy to pick up a licence from them.

Nickelodeon is really banking on this relaunch. Earlier this year they redid one of the rides at the Mall of America Nickelodeon Universe to a TMNT theme, and that was months in advance of the relaunch. I think it's entirely possible that LEGO would have won the license for this.

As much as a used to love TMNT when i was a kid i can't imagine how the characters are going to look like when made as minifigures! I'm pretty sure it don't work,just think about the shell and the proportions of the Turtles!!!

^^ The shells could slip over the neck and torso much like armor elements. The heads would be molded like many of the non-human Star Wars figs.

Nothing against the turtles, movies or cartoon... but... for me personally, there's not much appeal there. I can envision the minifigs turning out to be somewhat cool looking, however, the sets that come to mind seem very lackluster to me.

But what do I know? I haven't been 10 since the early 80's.

I will buy the sets to get my 4 mutant turtles. I can see these minifigs running around in my city themes along side with my Super Heroes. I have little interest in TMNT, but if you make them into Lego form then I am all over it.

Can someone expand on the background of TMNT popularity? I'm a little confused as to how (any why) Lego would possibly want this theme in 2013 (if ever). When I was a kid I remember having the live-action movie, but I never liked it enough to watch the whole thing. In my early teen years I believe there was a not-so-bad cartoon rivival on some Saturday morning American Cartoon channels (like Fox). I didn't think the Ninja Turtles ever had a huge following... just a temporary fan base for as long as the cartoons were around.

I'm not really interested in even seeing the concept designs for these sets. I think these so called "Ninja Turtle" minifigures would have custom shell pieces and moulded heads. They might as well be Mega B***s again if we're going to see some crazy looking half-minifigure hybrid from China. Thankfully for me, I'm still convinced this is a stupid lie spreading around the internet. I hope Lego Ninja Turtles never sees the light of day.

^the popularity dates back to late 80's when the first cartoon and toys were launched. I remember that the popularity amongst boys was hysterical at the time.

Since then there has been a few attempts at a revival(last time was in 2003) but it has never really caught on since back in the day.

And I guess nickelodeon hopes that thime it will. And Lego is going to try it out since they were doing a ninja theme allready that was going to end in 2013 anyway.

My brother LOVED TMNT, and yes, that was back in the 80s. It was hugely popular back then.

^Yup. And I would love to see a more mature animated take on the Turtles similar to the original comics or the original movie. This new one is doing nothing for me, though I more or less loved the 2003 take (which was also extremely popular).
