Anyone else here going to this year's LEGO show in Swindon? I'm looking forward to it.

It's at the Museum of the Great Western Railway, Swindon - 6th-7th October 2012.
(If you're into real trains as well as Lego, this could be the closest you'll get to heaven whilst still alive)

You'll find there are quite a few UK-based AFOLS going to STEAM - many of them here are exhibitors as well a visitors. I'm the show coordinator.

I'm always interested to hear who's coming and whether there's one thing we can do to make the show a little better each year.

I went to the show a couple of years ago, but I think it's fair to say I had not quite emerged from my dark ages at that time... but someone there had an #8043 Motorized Excavator on display next to a big crane, which made me decide I just had to get one. I've since bought a few hundred Lego sets, and I think it's it's entirely accurate to blame your show for that :)

I'll be there for the third year running as I've really enjoyed the last two years.

@Martin will there be a major model there this year like the St. Pancras Station and Westminster Abbey in previous years?
  • MartinMartin Member Posts: 375
@augen not sure they are quite on the same scale but we'll have a few high-profile Olympic-themed models as well as one or two large collaborations, a bit like the Harry Potter display last year.

Even I'll be building something, for the large train layout again.

While on the subject, we (Brickset management) are proposing to provide badges for Brickset members so we can identify each other on the day. They'll be available from somewhere in the show so you can collect when there, and we'll probably provide a template should you wish to print one, to include your avatar, beforehand.

Yep - there'll be quite a few familiar faces at STEAM, or names at least...

    ;-)

I for one have never met anyone here, so the badges gets my vote :)

I will be attending again... Handy it's round the corner from me ;o) Lool forward to meeting some fellow Bricksetters!!
  • TheBrickLaddTheBrickLadd Member Posts: 844
Anyone know if you can buy tickets on the day, or do you have to pre-buy? ta.
  • kempo81kempo81 Member Posts: 961
On the day, there are ticket pre sales but everyone buys on the day. It's just general admission to the STEAM museum not specifically the GW Lego Show.

    Thanks @kempo81

I'm only a junction away down the motorway. I'm hoping baby isn't early!

Any one from Manchester going? I'm undecided yet and I was thinking if there were a few of us, we could car pool.
  • bricksanbricksan Member Posts: 566
I am going down from Sheffield :-)
  • woodstockwoodstock Member Posts: 31
Is there much difference between this and The Lego Show in Manchester? Will it just be the same things on show? Any comments and comparisons will be greatly appreciated.
  • MartinMartin Member Posts: 375
Definitely not the same things on show. We have far more Brickish members displaying at STEAM than in Manchester. Overall, the venue is smaller but we pack an awful lot in, hence it can get busy.

I know there's lots of stuff being built for the show - Huw has started blogging on the show website already. Many of our visitors come back year after year because they know it's different each time.

Manchester was very different to GWLS last year. I'd be keen to hear other people's views though.

After some negotiation with my Wife, we will be attending. I've booked a B&B just around the corner for Saturday night, so if anyone fancies meeting up for a beverage or several on Saturday night, let me know.

I won't be there since I inadvertently promised to go to my Nephews birthday party before I realised it was on THIS weekend. Ho hum :(
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,075
@Everyone, make sure you register for a Brickset badge!

@Huw, I filled in the form yesterday :-)
Only 9 days to go!! :-)))
  • MinifigsMeMinifigsMe Member Posts: 2,844
Excited/terrified! @lostintranslation - so glad we're working together! What days are you going to be there? Will you be keeping us company? If you need any more work to do, got plenty of ideas for little mocs to display the minifigs! ;-)
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
@savage_steel - yeah, excited/terrified/panicked probably sums it up! The model is getting there, waiting on delivery of tiles from the lovely Julia at Stratford and need to add some finishing touches. Plus I have one big stumbling block which I'm going to start a Help!!! thread for soon :-)
I'll be there Saturday and Sunday (plus I'll see you on the Friday in Maidenhead I think? :-)). I'm going as a visitor so I can wander round lots both days but I might find time to keep you company for a while :-)
PM me what your other ideas are in case I have some time on my hands :-) I have some more ideas for minifigs too.

^ Lol, if it's what I think it is, I pulled up at the traffic lights outside the mall as I began my journey home, and who should walk right across the front of my car? Not @DrDave. Or was it?
