POTC 30132 Polybag Found!

Held in my hands tonight two of these POTC polybags at a local Best Buy store, apparently they were part of a pre-order promotion that ended a couple weeks ago. With any luck those two bags will be mine within a week or so...have to wait a bit before they will sell them to me. My wife works there so she'll keep an eye on them. :-p

This was most likely for the video game promotion. If you preorder the POTC game for one of the systems, you get a figure.

Aha! Well that explains it better. None of us could figure it out...looks like they will sell the polybag separately, but at $9.99. I don't need the minifig that bad! lol

Holy crap! 9.99?? Isn't TRU supposed to be getting this polybag eventually? Here is a link to the PS3 promotion page at gamestop btw: http://www.gamestop.com/ps3/games/lego-pirates-of-the-caribbean/88459

If you check bestbuy's site, you'll see they are running the same promotion (just researched this today).

Amazon.com and Walmart both offer a $10 credit (eGift card at WM and $10 credit towards purchase at Amazon) AND the minifigure with a pre-order.

I just swung by a Best Buy and after asking three workers I had one search 'the back' and bring 4 out. I didn't ask about the price.. hoping for the best. They wanted 9.99, so I had to say sorry and leave without. Did stop at the counter to tell manager that the guy who searched for us was super friendly and helpful.

Stood with my six year old behind an old scrub playing the potc demo for about 20 minutes. How does someone keep looking at a patient, eager kid and not let them have a turn? Tears in the parking lot even! Thinking that amazon offer doesn't look so bad now.

Just got 2 POTC promo polybags from TRU for 2.99ea.

Anyone else finding this in store at TRU? I was hoping to get one, but I'm not getting the game. It would be great if they were being sold at the stores for a reasonable price.

$9.99 for a minifigure is asking a lot, especially brand new... I've only considered that price tag for certain rare figures out of a larger set or a CM series no longer in production.

Besides, who wants Jack Sparrow that badly when you can get him from other PoTC sets easilly?
  • wander099wander099 Member Posts: 114
^ Well this is a voodoo doll version, so you can't get this specific one in any of the sets. Personally, I don't care about it, but some people collect minifigures and try to get them all.

Picked it up today after getting the DS PotC game for my son. Here's a pic(I like the wooden-like face)...
LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Captain Jack Sparrow Voodoo Doll.

I thought I read somewhere that TRU was gonna' have it for $3.00 or $4.00 bucks eventually but I can't remember where I saw that quote.
  • legoDadlegoDad Member Posts: 529
^ahh....duh...I just re-read the posts here and looks like Pookie already scored them from TRU at $3.00 bucks. I gotta' read the whole post more...(smacks head).

I received my $2.99 credit to be applied to the purchase of the Jack Sparrow figure for pre-ordering the game at Amazon.com (and the $10 pre-order credit as well), but it doesn't include free shipping! I would either have to pay shipping or add additional items in order to get my purchase above the $25 'free super saving' threshold. I emailed them to complain about this, as it comes off as a cheap ploy to get people to spend more money, when they could have easily just included it when packing up the game and saved us all the trouble. I also said that I wouldn't have ordered from them had I known the credit would not include shipping it to me, as there were multiple outlets that had the same offer. They responded that they would refund the shipping charge after the order is processed as long as I send them another email at that time, reminding them to do so.

Since the POTC video game was released yesterday, I scurried to the closest TRU to see about the Jack fig. The guy said they only had a few left, but he was pretty adamant about them being only for preordered games. After a little persuasion, he agreed to sell me a second one if I bought the game. I was on the fence about getting the game anyway, so I took him up on it. So now I have two. :)

The 2 TRU near me (WA state) would not give any up without buying the game and went out of their way to tell me they would not be selling any leftovers. I was like oh ok...thanks! Haven't tried BB yet but I'm seriously considering trying on Friday.

So I went into Wal-Mart tonight and they have a box of misc polybags that I always check when I'm in there.

Lo and behold I found the Jack Sparrow polybag in the the box. I grabbed them all and went to the register.

They were not in their system and a supervisor happened to be at the register...she let me buy them for $1.50 each. There were 13 total.

So....go check the polybag box at Wal-Mart and you could get lucky too;)

And where is this polybag box located at in stores? Cause as many times I've been in Walmarts I've yet to see one
  • nexhexnexhex Member Posts: 11
At this store, the box was on the bottom shelf of an end cap of the LEGO aisle.

Just made a late-night run to our local WalMart, we had no POTC polybags anywhere, actually no polybags of any kind. Checked all over the store, including back by the video games...no joy. Will certainly keep my eyes open though.

I went to my local TRU after seeing this post and they had four polybags laying on a shelf of larger POTC sets. I decided to buy all four and I picked up some Series 4 minifigs (I was so good at "squeezing" the bags I had avoided completely some of the minifigs I didn't want - then I realized that I didn't have a complete set due to this!). When I got home, I looked at my receipt before throwing it out - the POTC polybags all rang up at $0.01 each!!! I feel a little guilty because I was willing to pay whatever they rang up at, but I guess I should just consider myself lucky!

The accounts of people finding this figure for sale without buying the game is just making my difficulties getting Amazon to just send me the darn thing for free (as it should have been) all the more infuriating. It turns out that even after I use the 'credit' and they refund me the shipping charge (which, on this one figure, would be $4.50 something!!!) I will still get charged $0.40 tax!!! It's ridiculous that I would have to jump through all these hoops when other people are just getting the figure included completely for free with their pre-orders of the game! I won't be springing for any pre-order offers at Amazon again.

So I went to 3 more Wally-Worlds today and was able to find 9 more polybags. Again, they weren't in their system. This time I told the cashier they were $1.50 each and he says okay.

I'll probably give back to this community and let some have for cost and postage.....keep an eye on the marketplace.

Anyone else having any luck with finding these?
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,417
What country is this in? My Walmarts never carry polybag sets.
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
^ This is in the US. I believe this polybag was only intended as a freebie with the purchase of the LEGO video game, which would explain why they aren't showing up when scanned.

Our local Walmart does stock polybags, most recently the ones mentioned here: http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/257/found-8028-30051

They were in the seasonal section with Easter items and not with the other LEGO sets.
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,417
Dang. I never saw those either, and I did keep looking at the Easter section.

Here's a pic I snapped of the polybag box today....there is even a 8028 in the frontimage

the walmarts in my area (central florida) have never had polybags or cmf's. :/
target on the other hand has been a gold mine, they still have tons of the mini-sub, toy story jeep, and kingdoms target practice. if anyone wants to trade just let me know.
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,417
That is so cool. I have never seen a box like that at any Walmart I have gone to.
  • tommyboatommyboa Member Posts: 36
Went to TRU in Iowa, just asked if they had any leftover and would only give me one ( per customer), rang up a .01 $. I didn't have any change so she just gave it to me !!!
  • tommyboatommyboa Member Posts: 36
also went to TRU across the River in IL and they didn't know what I was talking about. Think is was because it was one of the older stores and they didn't have an electronics counter/cash register in the back of the store. They did in the IA store and three pepole were there working it. Had about 10 just sitting on top of the register.
