Just been to Manchester Arndale centre

The store is now open!!!!

They had SSD and R2 D2 on display on the outside and lots of sets built inside.

Staff are nice and friendly. They are feeling the TEAM GB figs for you if you ask, but £1.99 each. Brick remover are £1.99 too.

Pick-a-brick wall had some nice green and orange bricks etc. £6 for a small bucket and £11 for a big one.

There are a few UCS Imperial Shuttle and SSD.

Build your minifig are there but not seen any nice torso and head stuff. And costing £3.50 for 3 including the box.

There are also a few computers in the middle to access their website. And some building tables.

I assume the £1.99 is for the figure, not for the feeling service?

That sounds cheap, it is $10 in the US. Although I did find complete pharoahs in there and they had disco dude etc too when I looked.

^yeah, £1.99 for the fig. Sorry about that.

And yeah the build your own fig is cheap but I don't see anything special and I ran out of time for a clear look, so would probably go back some other time for another look. But I did see a Muskeet's torso.

They have some CMFs for build at the Discovery centre at Trafford Centre tho. But £2 each.

Yesterday I saw a small kid, probably 2-3 years old manage to get about 20 minifig heads in their mouth before their mother told them to spit them out ... right back into the heads bin. So my heads came from the bin on the other side. I dread to think what else goes into those bins.

My partner in crime went yesterday and took plenty of pics and did a write up: http://brickfanatics.co.uk/a-visit-to-the-manchester-lego-store/

Yeah it is one of the better bargains if you can actually find any decent parts. First time I went (to the liverpool store) there were all sorts of stuff (mainly a lot of early series CMF parts). The 2nd time I went more recently, the selection was pretty poor. Mostly the same heads (city with glasses) and torsos (plaid shirts etc).

Thanks for the review. Looks like a pretty normal setup, but will have to pay a visit to see for myself of course!

£3.50 for the Build a Minifig? It's like $13.99 in Canada, dang! Even without cool parts sounds kinda worth it to build up a minifig collection...

^Yes it is, I will go back some other time to state out whats there soon!
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
Anyone been into the store recently to find out what mini figs are there for Build a fig?

And anyone heard about anything for the Grand opening?
  • bricksanbricksan Member Posts: 566
Yes it is Friday 24th , Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of August. The Sheffield is the following weekend

The landing page for Manchester at stores.Lego.com be says that the freebies for the first 300 purchases over £25 will be child's t-shirt on Friday, Lego store model on Sat and minifigs on Sunday.
  • fitzyfitzfitzyfitz Member Posts: 94
Think I'll be going on the Saturday, the child's t-shirt doesn't really appeal and I doubt the minifigures will be anything special. Who else is planning to go?
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
    Saturday for me.
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
Just got a postcard about the new store, saying first 500 guests of the day with the card will get a free gift, any idea what it might be?
  • TyoSoloTyoSolo Member Posts: 539
Yeah, I got that too. It does clearly state that it's different to the other free gift which is limited to 300 a day.
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
    One problem:

It says "First 500 visitors" to the store, is that 500 per day? or 500 over the 3 days?
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
Yep, got one in store just now and one apparently posted to me this morning. I'm guessing its not going to be great - I'll be in work on Friday so will pop down for the freebie then, back in on Saturday for the proper stuff.

Can we expect to see the grand opening minifig pack ahead of time?

As an aside, they are also currently running the £25 spend for a free hulk minifig and I saw them doubling up with a Mini Sopwith for a £50 spend. had the children in tow so got the free hulk from some pick a bricks and minfigs. Will hold off any larger purchases until next weekend.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
IIRC, those "free gifts" are usually the Duplo bricks related to whatever build is being done at the store.

  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
Well, its still a free item, why not.

Also, it looks collectable for me.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
oh, tbh that looks utterly unremarkable. If anyone wants one let me know as I can probably wonder down their on Friday anyway. I'll sell it to you for £500 - or perhaps just give it to you for free. PM me if you want one.

Getting there as early as I can on Saturday then shoot back over to the Wirral for work at 10!
  • DoktorLDoktorL Member Posts: 140
Hi there, does anyone have an idea what the "Free Limited-Edition LEGO Store Set" will be that they give to the first 300 buyers on Saturday, 25th? Is it the tiny Lego Store 3300003? Thanks a lot for your help!
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
    Yes

I was there on monday, I got the hulk and the mini sopwith. The shop staff are really nice!
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
just wondering has @cheshirecat got my PM? :D

And yeah, the shop staff are friendly, last time I was there, I was just looking at the Architecture stuff, and a staff came up to me and start asking do I collect them etc! I said, I do. (But I bricklink them)
  • mnbvcmnbvc Member Posts: 143
I got my card this morning, but I'm working Friday and Saturday..and I'm not so fussed over the minifigure gifts. I quite fancy the 10% discount but then by the time I've factored in my train fare, I might as well do an online shop...boo!

Still, I went to the shop the other week and I thought the staff were fabulous. I really like shopping in Manchester anyway (I diverted to Liverpool due to the Lego store) so I will definitely be popping in a lot. :)
  • khmellymelkhmellymel Member Posts: 1,313
When I got the card for Vancouver, it turned out to be the R2 D2 Duplo block as the special giveaway, although the card actually said it would be the R2 D2 Duplo block. The Alderwood opening near Seattle was also a Duplo block, the Yoda one.

I'd love to make it down so that I could pick one up, but I'm getting ready for a (temp) move to China and I won't be able to make there. Boo!

Was in Manchester for the completely unrelated premier league trophy tour but thought we would stop by the Lego store to take my son for the first time.

He did the LOTR quest thing and bagged himself a sheet of stickers but the questions were far too hard for a 6 year old - think they may be aiming the questions and activity at an older age group or at least those that have see the film.

Anyway when paying for the Minifigs he built the lady serving me asked whether I knew about grand opening and expanded a little on the free gifts. From what she said the pic on the Manchester store page on Lego.com featuring a rock star type image is the theme they are going for as the figs on the Sunday will have a rock band theme so expect that is the t for the Friday. She may have been a little confused about the shop set on Saturday though as she implied it was of that particular store - although she did mention they are first store in uk to get them.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
^ Was the sticker sheet one of these two?

    image

    If so, which one? Thanks.
  • pd66pd66 Member Posts: 173
@CCC it was the first one and the first step in the quest was to build the sword in the second image but he had to give that back in at the end
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
Thanks. I got mine from a store in the US (the first set of stickers) and wondered if anyone had the second set to trade.

I think you could buy the sword, for $6.

If anyone feels like picking me a Duplo Brick (or whatever the free gift happens to be), feel free to :P gutted I can't make this opening!!
  • tom4086tom4086 Member Posts: 689
Looks like I'm first in the queue, no one else here yet? :)
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
I'm not sure if I'm 100% going on the Friday or not. But if I'm, I'd happily to help but I don't have a extra postcard to claim the price.
  • SiESiE Member Posts: 238
Is this only available if you have the card or is it anyone that turns up. I dont know why lego hav not sent me one. They also cant seem to send me a catalogue even though I order A LOT of stuff through the store.
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224

@SiE, maybe you have the "Send you LEGO Sale information by Post" on off or something on your account?

And I presume so that you only can have it with the card, because it is only 500. and it says on the card with the card too.
  • khmellymelkhmellymel Member Posts: 1,313
I think every store might operate a bit differently, but when I went to the Alderwood opening, I didn't need my card to get a Duplo block (which was the special gift on the postcard they sent - I had forgotten the card at home). They just gave it to me with my purchase, but at the time I thought it was because I spent quite a bit at the store. And my friend who went to the Vancouver opening also got a Duplo block for me, but he doesn't get any Lego mail, so he never knew about the special gift at all - he just asked the lady at the till if there was anything else special or collectible that he could get for me. So perhaps if you ask them for it? No harm in trying :)
  • SiESiE Member Posts: 238
It's so annoying. I spend over 2k a year with them and I have no settings which say I cant receive post. It really annoys me as I always miss out.
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
But surely, they only have 500?? Or 1500 for the 3 days?
  • Jabba_the_TaffJabba_the_Taff Member Posts: 224
Gutted I'm away, would've loved the Lego Store. Be at the discount morning though.
  • khmellymelkhmellymel Member Posts: 1,313
@ChanMcL I dunno! Maybe they don't send out that many postcards?
  • khmellymelkhmellymel Member Posts: 1,313
^ er, didn't, I mean... as in the case with the Alderwood and Vancouver openings :D

Quick few questions about this weekend's events for those that may have experienced grand openings before elsewhere or are thinking of heading down over the next few days:

    > who's thinking of going?
    > what time you planning to get there or should I plan to get there if want to get that elusive free gift?
    > will this be full of AFOLS shouldering each other around or would it be suitable for my 6 year old to join me?
    > if he did would he be eligible for the free gift if he is buying something over the £25?
    > does this link belong in the riduculous ebay auctions thread or is this really what people are paying for this?

I'm actually not that overly bothered about the store set (same with the Mini Sopwith I got with a [email protected] order) but think it could be great trade material as I strive to get that elusive Scorpion Pyramid and as I live pretty local am considering heading down Saturday am.

Going Saturday morning, getting there for 8-ish hopefully.
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
If someone will be able to get me the free gift would be nice!

Or if they have any left for Saturday to give-away.
  • SiESiE Member Posts: 238
I rang the store earlier and they said i do not need a card, although you have to take part in a build session which gives you an armband which you can then use to get the gift with a £25 spend.
  • khmellymelkhmellymel Member Posts: 1,313
@pd66 I've actually seen that set go for higher... but with the increase of new store openings, they've come down quite a bit since.

    considering heading down Saturday am.

I've just looked on Bricklink and the cheapest BNIB one on there is $95 (£60) from the USA. Theres none in the UK and no BNIB ones in Europe so that appears to be the going rate.

I have already nearly finished building the store from parts, it just needs some windows to finish it off, but would like the official set, so I am planning a trip to Manchester on Saturday.

  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
So what is the free gift? :D
  • SilentModeSilentMode Member Posts: 586
I'll be there on Sunday; will be arriving on Saturday but will probably be waaaaaaaaay too late for the giveaway.
