I am curious if anyone has saved any money BL'ing the Eiffel Tower, Those 150ish fence pieces are the killer to find.

I am tossing around the idea of bricklinking this set. Could you tell us your total cost for 10181 and if Lego Direct has most of the pieces required?

    Thanks in advance.

I BL'd the eiffel tower, I find the best way to handle the fences is to just order the fences at the best prices from different sellers even when they do not have that many and then add in other stuff on the want list to make it worth it, I think I got fences from about 10 to 12 sellers altogether but getting fences for $.25 to $.50 each makes up for the extra shipping over paying $1.00 or alot more a fence from 2 or 3 sellers

@doriansdad I just went on a bender since last night's discussion on BL'ing Eiffel Tower and finished purchasing all the needed parts (only new) a minute ago. Total was about ~$350 after taxes & shipping included. Consumed quite a bit of inventory bricks worth about $70. Did it with purchases from 3 BL sellers and Lego twice (PAB & RP).

-------WARNING to all those who want to BL 10181 Eiffel Tower-------

Make sure you pick the 8 x Dark Bluish Gray Brick 1 x 1 x 5 (ID 2453) with HOLLOW STUD. I had to make 4 different orders (first time I didn't know, second time the seller did not check, third time from Lego...) till I got hollow stud ones.

In fact you'll have to put 1 x 2 Plates on the center/top of them.

If you order them from Lego, you'll get solid stud ones.

I hope it will be useful to you, as it's not specified on Bricklink.

Thanks for the great tip. I am going to price 10181 this weekend on bricklink and see where I am at. If i can get the whole thing new for $275 it will make sense for me, otherwise I will have to pass for now.

I bricklinked the Eiffel Tower a little over a year ago. It is no where near as hard as say Cafe Corner or the Millenium Falcon because there aren't really rare pieces; its just a lot of pieces! Haha but well worth it! It is a fantastic set.

I just finished pricing the Eiffel Tower and it is going to run around $400 USD for all new pieces shipped. Think I may have to pass on this one and try and snag an EUC set with box and instructions for around $450 somewhere.

^That's basically the price I would have if I didn't dip into my MOC inventory for ~$70 worth of bricks. The instructions were the deal breaker (I lucked out and got a copy for $20, but normally is over $100) so EUC might be the best route. Good luck on the search @doriansdad and hope you find a nice one for cheap!
