Bricklinking 3723 Mini-Figure

edited July 2012 in Buying & Selling Topics
Since returning from my dark ages, I have wanted to build 3723 as the focal point for my LEGO display. Doing it through Bricklink seems to be the best option, other than buying it New In Box (~$1,000) or used (and incomplete). I am very curious if anyone has ever tried to build a complete 3723 LEGO Mini-Figure using Bricklink. What did it end up costing?
If not via Bricklink, might you share how you did it?

    - 1851 parts in 93 lots.
    - Weight: ~2819 grams (6.21 lbs)

    - Sum with BL best item prices (world): ~86,46 USD (without shipping costs)
    - Sum with BL "sold average": ~205.95 USD (without shipping costs)

    Rarest element:
    4 x Blue Brick 1 x 10 ~2,60 USD

    Most "expensive" lots:
    132 x Yellow Plate 2 x 2 Corner ~5.19 USD
    26 x Blue Brick 2 x 2 Corner ~5.21 USD
    42 x Blue Brick 2 x 10 ~17,71 USD

I would consider getting the ebay one or this for 250 USD...

@ MorkMan, I'm with you, I keep saying I'm going to build this! I love it! But then I have to find room to display it and that's getting more and more difficult.

I'm starting to get more serious about it. Just a few hours ago, I put together a brick tower to the correct height so I could envision how much space I need/where I would be able to place him. I think I have just the right space for it on my bookshelf. If I begin it, I'll keep y'all posted.

^ Awesome MorkMan. I thought about doing him in striped or multi color coveralls as I'm not sure I have enough blue bricks. Of course I could do the inner bricks that don't show in a different color.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ There arent really any inner bricks that don't show. It is hollow in most places (at least the legs). There are probably only 6-10 total pieces in the legs that wouldn't show on the outside. I started building it in LDD last night so I could experiment with different colors before I build one and also changing the bricks used so that fewer 2x10's are needed.

^Thanks for that info. I think I need to make this a priority! Do you recall the finished height?
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ I havent finished it but I think the entry here or one of the ebay auctions said it was 20".

@graphite, thanks. Sure ready to have this bandage off my hand so I can really build! Too hot to be in the shop pulling parts, it's supposed to be 105 F today.

My brother has done this set by BrickLinking, anyone would like a photo?

    I will upload it soon!
  • MorkManMorkMan Member Posts: 919
^ @chanboy - I would love to see the final result from your brother's build.
^^ @AFFOL_Shellz_Bellz (and others) this seems like a good summer project. Let's keep tabs on where we all are on our builds!
@graphite - I would love to see the LDD file when you're done!
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ I'd be happy to share it when I finish. Only issue is that it wont be part for part exact to 3723 since I'm trying to eliminate as many of the 2x10's as possible and where I can replacing the 2x8's with 2 2x4's since 2x4's are typically more available.
  • MorkManMorkMan Member Posts: 919
^ that is my reason for wanting to see your file. I agree about the 2x4 bricks being way more available in my boxes of bricks than 2x10 bricks. Good ideas.
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
My brother and I did cheat with replacing 2 x 10s or larger bricks by using smaller bricks as possible expect the middle support part.

    Here is this photo!

We couldn't find any green plates at the stores we were buying from and not willing to buy from a different store to increase the overall cost, so got some white plates for the hat and it came out to be a not-bad effect.

    Very cool!

^^ @chanboy Oh man! That picture is making me want to start building mine. Gotta start amassing the pieces. And how gig is your Monitor?! Or is that just the perspective?
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
@morkman, its just my tele i use for my pc... If u think about it, the head is about the size of 2 iphones. You can see how big it is compared to the pudsey bear

Looks like the eBay auction didn't sell - the owner has now posted this one on Craigslist

ONLY .17? I'll figure out how to make it from our bulk, but he might end up with checkered pants!

@affol_shellz_bellz. Did you ever make this? I had high hopes for it to be a summer of 2012 project, but Life got in the way. Now my sights are set on doing this and #3724 together.

Does anyone have a suggestion to swap out for less pieces than the 132 yellow plate 2x2 corners?

I actually ended up buying the set for $250. #3724 is next on my wish list from these big builds (as I refer to them)

I am currently in the process of bricklinking the parts for this. I have all but 6 of the blue 2x10 bricks, and I have just ordered the 132 yellow 2x2 corner plates from shop@home, using some of my VIP points (bonus), as I could not source enough of these plates anywhere else. I managed to get all of the blue 2x2 corner bricks from bricklink (sorry if there are none left for anyone else in the UK).
This time I am going to wait until I have all the bricks before I begin to build it (unlike my previous BL model Cafe Corner, which I built as I went along.) I have been collecting pieces since February, and many of the two wide bricks have come from my brick collection as they are not used much for modulars. I will not calculate the cost until I have all the bricks, but it will probably be more than buying a complete set, however by buying the parts from BL I can spread the cost, which makes it seem more affordable and easier to justify to the other half, who thinks I spend too much on Lego, (I say I don't spend enough, but that is an ongoing disagreement). Also on my wishlist to build from BL are market street, green grocer and eiffel tower. I may be some time...
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
Another option is to change the colour of the hands to save the spendings on yellow 2x2 corners plates. They can be white, green or blue ;)
  • MorkManMorkMan Member Posts: 919
Are the corner 2x2 pieces the expensive/hard to get ones?
If so, I'm okay going with these in white... Is that cheaper/more available?
Wouldn't that look weird with a yellow head?

Check the instructions to see if there are some that won't show , or you could make it in such a way it's got hair, by using brown or black pieces in an appropriate pattern.
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
Could always try the colour mixing on an actual mini fig first to see the effect ;)

just noticed this thread, and this set too, thats now a must have for me ... im patient though, think i need to wait a while for bricklink to replenish since you lot cleared it out!
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
I cleared it out a few years back now.

Anyone know what is the best method to get a sticker without getting the real sticker?
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
I BL'd this a month ago. The blue 2x10s were rough to come up with. Luckily I had a bunch already.
  • MorkManMorkMan Member Posts: 919
I'm going to do this in stages I think. Start with the head first. That seems to be a good idea. I've got to get the corners before @si_dorking_surrey_uk gets them!

@prevere, are they necessarily that important? Can you do it with 2x2/4/6 instead?
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
you can basically do the whole body with 2x4 or 2x6, which I have done. But you probably looking for at least 5 for main supports.
  • Si_UKNZSi_UKNZ Member Posts: 4,179
@Morkman, don't worry I'm not falling for that again, same thing happened with the cafe corner extra floor .... once you get a thread on here about it, don't try and bricklink it til at least 6 months afterwards once price/ availability have stabilised again :).

Lurkers, you know who you are! :)
  • MorkManMorkMan Member Posts: 919
@Si_Dorking_Surrey_UK - good to know! I think I'll see what I can do with the loose bricks on hand. ;) Maybe I'll just buy the 5 like @ChanMcL says.
Now, don't go raising the prices on me all you BrickLink Sellers!!!!!!
  • MorkManMorkMan Member Posts: 919
Update... I bought most of the head pieces today.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
I only ended up using 4 2x10's in blue and 4 2x10's in red for my minifigure build.
  • flowerpotgirlflowerpotgirl Member Posts: 195
I now have the required amount of blue 2x10 bricks, I have noticed the red bricks are far cheaper, and they are next on my list. Must resist the temptation to start building before I have all the parts...
  • flowerpotgirlflowerpotgirl Member Posts: 195
Just got these stickers on Ebay, they are genuine Lego. I am hoping the lego ones will be useful for my minifigure. I should be able to resize them if neccessary. Has anyone else used these? Were they the correct size?
  • MorkManMorkMan Member Posts: 919
I just received my first shipment of parts today. Mostly the head. Now it is onto the body... Looking forward to this build... What were those stickers from, @flowerpotgirl?
  • flowerpotgirlflowerpotgirl Member Posts: 195
Hi @Morkman, I bought two sheets of them from Ebay for £1. They are genuine Lego.
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
@flowerpotgirl, do you know if they are still available from eBay? If so, link? Thanks
