Original price $69.99 on Lego.com but it is no longer available on the website.

There are quite a few on the shelf yesterday. A few boxes are quite beat up so perhaps you can ask for further discount.

Downtown Disney Lego store is in Anaheim, CA (outside Disneyland).

FYI, sales tax there is 7.75%.

Also note that ToysRUs.com has this set for $59.99 (one of very few sets they have below MSRP), and that there is currently $10 off $50 purchases. So you could get it for $49.99 + tax.

Are the Winter Villiage sets only released near Christmas time?

^ It seems to be that way at the LEGO Store, LEGO.com, and some of the retailers (Amazon, Target, and Wal-Mart). But ToysRUs.com has had them all year round. Winter Bakery is still in-stock for $54.99 (which is MSRP, and again, you can currently get $10 off that).

The Winter Village PO is only sold @ TRU.com so you have to buy something else until it gets to $75 to get free shipping. Otherwise you'd have to pay $7.53 shipping (on top of the tax).

FYI, WVPO has been on sale at every Lego store all year.

^ if they have it, which my local store hasn't had since Jan/Feb. I'm assuming the sale was intended to drain the inventory sitting at the stores so they don't have to store it until it's time to put back on the shelves this November.

^ Maybe, but it would seem strange that the 4 or 5 stores that I frequent regularly have never been out of stock. I know for a fact that at least of one them has been getting them in on recent deliveries.

I'm sure they are just trying to temporally drain inventory as you said, however.
