The sale is live and unfortunately does not seem to be discounting multiple sets. You can save $10 off Minecraft but would then be on the hook for shipping.

Thanks Yellowcastle.. Another 'yawner' of a set.. Apparently TRU is getting really 'cheap' now with their business plan.. that is raising prices buy 10% then being 'nice' and giving sales of 10 dollars off the set...
At least last year there was a TRU BOGO50 practically once a month (if not more)

    My question is
Where have all the BOGOs gone?

What drives me nuts is I missed out on PS last BOGO50 and figured there was going to be another shortly, but zip since then....

    Always excludes Star Wars... *sigh*

I just received an email for an in-store 20% coupon for one "regular-priced" item at TRU. Hoping it will stack with the current $10 off $50 (but not holding my breath). The irony of course being that there isn't much at TRU which is "regular-priced."
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^ Just got it as well. I guess we'll see tomorrow...
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
yeah, I'll give it a go too
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
these kinds of things have always stacked in the past (in store at least), so I'm hopeful they will again. Anything priced at $63 or more will still come in over $50 after the 20% discount, which should allow the extra $10 to then also kick in. Maximum discount then is about 35% off on a $63 item. Some more realisitic price points:

    $100 for $70 (30% off)
    $90 for $62 (31%)
    $85 for $58 (32%)
    $80 for $54 (32%)
    $75 for $50 (33%)
    $70 for $46 (34%)
    $65 for $42 (35%)

Got the 20% coupon as well. Will pick up MVR if stacking works (otherwise, the $10 above MSRP will negate much of that 20%, sigh).
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
Did anyone else notice the LotR stuff, and some others, are currently "discounted" on-line?
  • forumreaderforumreader Member Posts: 97
Is the coupon one time use? I haven't seen anything in either of my TRU-aware account inboxes yet.
  • PoochyPoochy Member Posts: 479
    ^ Yes, one-time and in-store only.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
^ Yeah, it says "One time single use" on it. I'm pretty sure the code on the coupon is unique to a customer, and once used is no longer active at the register.
  • PoochyPoochy Member Posts: 479
Note that I have been sent 3 of these 20% off coupons in the past month or so (or maybe two). Not sure if that's a trend or anything (I hope it is). Only downside I can see as sidersdd has mentioned is that usually there isn't much worth getting there unless there are additional distounts (well except maybe for CMFs).

    Hrm.
    :( I didn't get one.
  • bsiu922bsiu922 Member Posts: 439
Anyone tried if the 20% and the 10 off 50 stackable?
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
Previously they have been but it's still early in the day to know for sure.

Check the TRU site to ensure you get offers sent to your email and check your email to ensure that your filters are not stopping them..
Also this is only for in store purchases.
  • PoochyPoochy Member Posts: 479
I am going to find out at 10am Pacific unless someone gets to it first :).

20% doesnt stack with the $10 off $50. at least at my TRU. :/

what item(s) did you try this on?

  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,540
The fine print seems to indicate no-stacking. I will still give it a go though
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
^ the fine print has always said that, yet it has always worked in the past (the 20% comes off first, and if your total purchase is still over $50, the $10 would kick in).

it's certainly possible they have fixed it of course.
  • ThisIsMyCupThisIsMyCup Member Posts: 156
@dougts i tried it with the MF Vampyre Castle. so i assumed it wouldnt work with any of the lego since its "all on sale." the cashier pointed out in the fine print "unbeatable prices" excludes the coupon from working. i was to tired to argue how vague that is...since no where in the store did i see anything marked as an unbeatable price.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
^ which also raises the question: since NONE of TRUs LEGO prices are, in fact, unbeatable, wouldn't that clause then NOT apply to any LEGO set at all.

so, did you get the 20% on the castle then?
  • ThisIsMyCupThisIsMyCup Member Posts: 156
no, the cashier wouldnt let me use it........
  • ThisIsMyCupThisIsMyCup Member Posts: 156
please let me know if anyone has any luck with this coupon and using it on lego.

Bummer. I want that thing. I'm torn between getting that and the sopwith for the BF for his b-day.

Update: Still no coupon. You guys are just way luckier than I am apparently.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432

Did they scan it? Or just stop you from trying?

    HAH, so true
  • ThisIsMyCupThisIsMyCup Member Posts: 156
    they scanned it.
  • PoochyPoochy Member Posts: 479
No go for me as well (through scanning) for the MVR. I even asked if they could remove the $10 off discount (thereby bringing the price back to "regular", aka $10 over MSRP), and let me use just the 20% coupon instead. They said the computer is not set up for that. I was late for work and didn't feel like pleading with the manager. Guess I'll have to wait another day for my MVR, sigh. For those missing out on this deal, you're not really missing much (at least today).
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
Interesting....so they've coded this coupon to not register for sets on sale. I would therefore assume it would work on Superheroes, Star Wars, Ninjago, Friends and Technic...

How about this....did anyone try it on an eligible (i.e. City, Monster, LotR, etc.) set that was under $50?
  • ThisIsMyCupThisIsMyCup Member Posts: 156
@yellowcastle didnt think of that....may go back later.
  • bsiu922bsiu922 Member Posts: 439
I doubt it since any of those item add up to 50 will qualify for the 10 off 50

SAVE $10 ANY LEGO construction set purchase of $50 or more! (excludes Friends, Ninjago, Star Wars, Super Heroes & Techni
Must add to cart $50 worth of eligible items for offer.
    HOW IT WORKS

It’s easy… just follow these simple steps!

    · Maximum 1 discount per order

    ·

    · Must add to cart $50 worth of eligible items for offer

may be good for those are excluded such as Friends, Ninjago, Star Wars, Super Heroes & Techni
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^ I'm not sure they can code it to not work for a $10 City set but I might be wrong...
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,540
I had the exact same experience as @Poochy with the MVR. I have just about had it with TRU, I do not normally shop there anyway because of price but when they do have a sale like this the only things I hear from employees are 'No'. 'Sorry', and 'I can't do that'. I recently tried to return a set in store that I ordered online and arrived with a busted up box. They only refunded me the cost of the item and not the shipping. "Oh we can't refund shipping, that is on a different system. You will have to mail it back" Really? Is it that hard to refund the full amount I paid? It is amazing how they charge more and have worse service than Target or even Walmart.
  • meyerc13meyerc13 Member Posts: 227
It won't help anyone with this coupon, since the stores are closed now, but if your LEGO purchase was under $50 it did let you use the 20% Rewards coupon. I bought the $18 mining set that they were selling for $20. I also had a $5 reward to use. You'd think it would be $20-$4=$16-$5=$11, but that isn't how they calculated it. Instead it was $20-$5 (reward)=$15-$3 (20% of $15)=$12. Just another way for TRU to come out ahead.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
^ could have been the order of the scan. I never even give them my rewards coupons until after I see them scan all my other coupons and see the price reduce on the screen. the rewards are supposed to be like cash, so apply after discount. but if the checker takes it off before the coupon, it wouldn't surprise me if their stupid system did what you described.
  • davewizdavewiz Member Posts: 6
^This is what happened to me a few weeks back. I picked up two sets totaling $52 and had a $10 off a $50 purchase coupon plus a $5 rewards coupon. I was surprised when the cashier told me that my total wasn't above $50. Then she explained that she had to take the $5 rewards off first. That was what finally pushed me over the edge and made me decide not to shop at TRU anymore. We'll see how well I hold to that when the next BOGO sale comes up.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
^ honestly with the markups now on everything, the only thing that makes sense for me to buy at TRU anymore are online BOGOs for the direct/exclusives.
  • nkx1nkx1 Member Posts: 719
^I agree. After tax and the markup on most sets, it's practically impossible to get a deal on anything but the direct/exclusive sets. But many of those sets (modulars, tower bridge and many others) seem to magically go out of stock during the BOGO sales (like many others have previously stated). It's pretty difficult to jump on those quickly enough. It would be interesting to know if that many people are really buying those sets, or if TRU is dishonestly manipulating their supposed stock.

Nope, I held on to the rewards until after I saw the coupon come off, since I wasn't sure if the coupon would apply to a sub $50 set based on the comments above. This is just another way for TRU to stick it to their customers.

It isn't like I'm trying to rip them off... they have the set marked up over 10% above MSRP, so the 20% coupon only brings it down to about 10% off MSRP. Since the $5 reward is less than a 4% cash back on my prior purchases, I don't think they would fair too badly had they applied the $5 off after the 20% coupon.

This is why I've bought almost no LEGO from TRU this year, as opposed to last year where I bought quite a bit half way through the year. This year my LEGO $$ has gone to Barnes and Noble, the LEGO store, and Wal Mart (love the clearance sales).
