That might be the case (I have never heard of him), but he's no Beto Matali; his custom figures are made from scratch, incredibly detailed and are worth every penny. This guy just Zebra stripped a LEGO Batman. Maybe, if "Tiffany & Co" made a special customized Batman, it might be worth $500.

He did things like the Heath Ledger joker long before Lego did. I think he designs the prints from scratch then pad prints. Also molds his own parts where necessary.

I never heard of Christo before today, so I have to ask - are Christo's custom minifigs more acceptable than other fakes?

They aren't really fakes, they are customs. Lego parts which have been customised. Whether they are acceptable is up to the individual. He has made quite a few that Lego have made, but I think in nearly all cases he was first.

Most of the Christo figures go for a reasonable amount of money.  This one was a limited exclusive that was given out at the Indonesian Comic Con and I believe that he only made 40 of them.  For most people on this forum, that would not matter, but for a few collectors that really wanted it drove it up.  I also wanted this, but my price was more about 150, not 500.  :)  You can see more here.  http://minifigpriceguide.com/wordpress/lego-exclusive-custom-christo-zebra-batman-minifigure-for-indonesia-comic-con/  It also comes with a collector box and was featured at the show as well.

Honestly, I'm kind of surprised you even listed it on your site, Shawn, considering it's a custom piece. 


It is nice work, but custom work.  I really have no room to judge how much someone pays for a LEGO minifigure... but I do think paying $500 for a custom piece is, quite frankly, stupid. LEGO is liable to make their own version at any time and mass produce it. While his custom work is somewhat nice, I think much like many things these days (such as Apple or even LEGO) it's more about the name now rather than the actual product's quality, which is an illusion.

^For me, it would be the return value or ease of selling on to someone else for the same price as paid. I figure the buyer pool would be much smaller than official SDCC figs.

When you say it is all about the name, comparing it to Damien Hirst or Tracey Emin would be more apt than Apple or Lego though.  People will pay a lot more than $500 for the (IMHO) tat that those people put out.  If people want their art to be on Lego minifigures and that makes them happy, then my only problem with it, is no one would buy a custom that I made for that kind of money.

Mario Batali's son goes to UofM. He and his son were sitting outside our shop waiting to get a haircut. I think only his son got his cut.

One of the worst 9V Train sets. This came out around the time I came out of my Dark Ages and I never had a LEGO train set, so I bought it. These were deeply discounted at Target back in the day for 75% off, so I bought another for parts. I am always leary about buying used 9V Train Motors.

I said 9V because I have most of the 9V trains and PF, but I have never owned any 12V or 4.5V??? I wasn't sure if there was an even worse train :)

^ I have all of the 9V and all of the PF trains and 4560/4561 is the worst. I'd add that the 4559 is a close second to the bottom but I love the color scheme. Think the Steelers and you'll understand. 

 If you go into the 4.5V and 12V trains, there is a lot to argue about there especially with some of the push trains that you could add a motor to. But some very good trains also.

Funnily the seller apologises for the expensive shipping (£15 which is entirely reasonable) but makes no mention of the £500 over value BIN price.

I also like the +10 minifigs. No dickhead, they're part of the sets you've just listed as being 99% complete. And that's 1 too few.
