Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think that every large retailer trying to cash-in on the eBay/Amazon marketplace does a disservice to their primary role as a retailer.

I don't buy Lego from Wal-Mart very often, but I'd much rather see that they are out-of-stock, rather than some outlandish price on the same item from some third-party seller.

(I really hate that Sears does it as well.)

I didn't want to start a new thread on this... but modern minifigs aren't the only thing that is coming up for sale as fakes.  Here we have a Swiss seller who made fake 1955-58 Esso Oil Drums (1x1 round bricks from the 1950s with a LEGO sticker attached).... and is selling them on Ebay...

Although he states that they are fakes, by not labeling them as such, he just propogates the problem of fake + forged items (like the 10179 Millennium Falcon fake printed antenna dishes).  This becomes a problem on the aftermarket at a later time.

Here are some fake items (using real 1950s LEGO)... the real oil drums (only ever found in Danish 1251 and 1247 spare parts packs of 1955-58) would sell for anywhere from $80-$150 depending on color and condition, while fakes are worthless.

The fake logo on the side of the Esso Barrel Truck (the oval decal is real) with "ESSO" (Norway only signage)... the real truck would be worth $500+, the fake about $15.

Not sure if there's a thread for ridiculous ebay sellers themselves, but one person that I'm dealing with right now expects me to file the claim after I got my LEGO package crushed cause they loosely wrapped it in bubblewrap so it was shifting around a box that's not thick enough to provide cushion in case something heavy landed on it. Actually, it got punctured by something as well. I would've been more understanding if it was as carefully packed as the other package I received today and it STILL got damaged, but that just wasn't the case.

I had a pretty inexperience seller send me a Grand Emporium with zero packing materials.  Or even a bag - I'm happy nothing fell out during shipping!

Aside from no minifigures, I'm only missing one piece thusfar.

As an aside, following instructions was not this guy's forte.  Some goofy 'interpretations' of the instructions made breaking down the set a learning experience.

I was just going to post this, they seem to have no clue and must be using the UCS as a guide price. I too wondered if they have added an extra 0 until i noticed the £1.2k Death Star.

Or they know precisely what they're doing and hoping there's a prospective purchaser who doesn't. It only needs one. It's a method that often works - often enough, anyway.

^maybe he kragles it as part of the service.  Because anyone who has to have it built for them would surely not want any of the parts to come loose.
And @Shib , it clearly is against ebay policy as the listing is clearly asking to be contacted/make a deal outside of ebay - unless he expects people to bid and then try to find a set at twice the winning price they want built!

I am aware of a spoilt teenager who was given one of the larger sets as a present. It quickly ended up in the bin because he would have to put it together himself.  Unfortunately, I only heard about it after the event. His attitude wouldn't have been particularly unusual given his background.
