Does anyone know the story behind these?

Are they reprints, snuck out the back door of the Mexican factory, or something else?

From what I understand, someone printed a load of their own torsos for that one. Look at the NY, it is fairly smudged. So while it is 100% lego, it is probably not 100% lego as it left the lego factory.

If it isn't sealed, then chances are it isn't genuine. Even if the lego parts are genuine lego parts. Even some sealed ones are probably fakes, as they sometimes come in slightly different style bags.

^this is a double edged sword.  It means a mortal such as myself can have a 'lego' version of this minifigure, but it means anyone that opened theirs is completely screwed as it is such an easy print job to fake.  But yeah, the ebay listing looks like the printing wasn't even done well.. it's not even central on the chest.  They have at least managed to get the I higher than heart from the original.

Looking at the images, the printing is smudged, the heart looks lower and the TM too close to me.

There are plenty of fakes around. I remember seeing someone trying to offload 200 of them in batches of 10 at $500 a batch. There is no way they were legit.

Any chance they were seconds? Printer messes up a run and instead of putting them in the bin for melting (or whatever they do with errors) someone puts them on ebay instead? Not that it makes much difference.

^^I refer you to my comment - not central on the chest.  I think the heart is in the right place, but agree the TM looks a little close and not complete.  It also looks like the left (as we look at it) hand on the legit one is facing to the side.  I'm calling fake.  Having said that, the fakes change hands at around £20 (made of genuine lego yoda that is). So it's not a totally terrible deal.

I vote fake.  even if its real, its so hard to be100% sure unless its in the original poly from lego. you couldnt get me to buy one.

^^^^ That's why it's wise to buy one of those figures if it comes with the TRU "X-Wing slip" and the goodie bag (with posters and flyers from the X-Wing event). The figure is very easy to fake as the printing on the torso is not complex at all. Back when I got 10+ of these when they were first released I made sure they all included the baggie and X-Wing slip knowing full well that there would be accurate fakes made down the line.

Using the actual box images from the lego sets.  The biggest disappointment has to be the T-rex - the actual minifigure in the box appears to be some small raptor like thing.

^ Same is true with most sets.  The more collateral detail and stuff you can provide, it helps to verify the authenticity.

(I have a white Boba Fett keychain that is genuine, but having the accompanying paperwork helps.  No white rangefinder...)

^hmm... Not sure I'd go for a listing with no information about instruction, box etc. even if it was just for one of these. Also seems a little steep as other than the obvious candidates most of these can be picked up for well under $1000 each. Maybe $25000 would be fair, bearing in mind surely no one out there wants the whole lot and doesn't have a single one, so you'd need to be organising and reselling.

The seller's got a great reputation. Give him credit for posting at potentially a point of maximum return. That seems like the type of listing to get a big-time collectors attention and potentially he takes less than listed, closing the deal offline.

Crazy price (~£1,000/set), but interesting to see the relative sizes of all the UCS sets displayed next to each other.

^ I agree, I had no idea how huge #10030 was. It makes the Millenium falcon look small. I also thought Ewok Village was bigger than it appears to be when compared to Slave 1 and the sand crawler.

^^^ One of the reasons I hate Super Lots, it's happened to me quite a few times now; see an item listed for a pretty good price, only when you click, it's part of a Super Lot that you'd either need bank loan to purchase or one item in the lot is so overpriced that you'd be better off buy each item from individual sellers. Happened when I was looking for a few CMFs, one the minifigs was easily forty percent lower than any other listing, all but one minifig in the series was the same, but if you were to buy the lot, the price of that last minifig made the set easily more expensive than any of the other listings by US$100.

I make that $2.54 / £1.67 per piece... And he claims to have sold one already...

Edited to add, I forgot to factor in his postage costs of $68.60 (approx. £45.16), which makes it $3.17 / £2.09 per piece...

It's unclear if he is selling a lot of 8 sets, which if he is, then it's about $0.32 per piece.

It can happen a lot with CMFs, often someone does them for a penny but one item for £100 or something silly. I tend to least favourite the store and move on.

@CCC and @VorpalRyu -- I have yet to find a good way to list complete series of CMFs on BL.  To avoid the problem you guys mention, I currently have mine listed in my store using the base set number (e.g. 8683-1) with a 16 count minimum, but my guess is that people searching for complete series are unlikely to find my entry.

I've not ever purchased a complete set from BL, but that's got to be aggravating to search out the best price.

^^ I rarely sell complete sets of them, but either decide what you want and divide by 16, or maybe charge double for the valuable ones (so divide by 20 and charge double for four, etc). At least that way it doesn't look like you are trying to con buyers with a cheap price and hiding the true cost in one figure. I did similar for team GB. Divided what I wanted by 10, and doubled the price for the boxer.

I can't find the listing now, but that Super Lot, all the figures were about US$10.99 (the cheap, cheap zombie is what drew my attention), but the nurse was US$299.99.

I know, we've probably all endured some version of super lot disappointment.

I thought I found a no-minifigure QAR for an absolute steal, but they tied in six other fig-less sets that were overpriced by 300%.
