We don't know if it was the seller backing out or the buyer. It may well be that the buyer is not in the UK but expected free delivery.

Maybe he shilled it because he was expecting far more than it was going for and ended up with the highest bid? If it only got to a grand this time around, I can't see the logic in asking £7500 for it.

^ Yes, probably. I looked at the relisted one on my phone and it was £1 again, so assumed the seller was relisting under the same conditions. I didn't realise he had then cancelled that one, and had done a new listing for £7500.

I cannot see it selling at that price. At least, not without some more info on the actual model and not the other model where he talks about the number of bricks.

Yes it was the relisting at £7500 that made me assume it wasn't as simple as the buyer backing out.

There is logic in charging a large amount. Lots of companies buy tap water and resell it on for large amounts. The logic being rich people are to posh to fill a bottle themselves...
This guy wants a rich footballer to buy this and if the cost is 7k or 1k it might not bother.
(I sold a wooden toilet holder for £35 on ebay. I would have taken 99p....)

Dont think Ebay gives black marks to buyers.... So you should not have anything to fear. You can report seller. Not sure how this seller is scamming people. Maybe it is only your time that is wasted.

There should be black marks for buyers though because there are a few scammers who take advantage of the whole buyer protection thing. I just stay away from eBay as much as possible.

So I recently purchase a lot of Legos by the pound (weight) and found that the lot was 7 lbs less than was described in the listing and of what was delivered about 8 pounds were non-Lego items. I've opened a case with Ebay and have yet to hear back from Ebay or the seller. What happens if the seller doesn't reply back? Anybody know from experience?

It is documented...somewhere. EBay does and can report your business activities to the government. I get a 1099k from both paypal and Amazon, rest assured I report all my sales to the IRS. Not reporting income will get you sent to prison, at least in my dollar amounts it will.

I use all the legal tax avoidance options I have, but I do report all my income. Never mess with the IRS. Just ask Al Capone.

On another note, someone on eBay (ok-trader?) is listing a lot of 1 by 2 by 2 Duplo promo bricks from the Legoland Parks for huge sums. These were freebies given away for certain events at California Legoland, etc. One is listed for $100......

@durazno33‌ - If the seller doesn't respond back within their allotted time period then eBay will rule in your favor and you'll get a full refund once you return the item. eBay will notify you when they have decided in your favor, so just sit tight. Just make sure when you return it that you provide proof of postage with a tracking # (which you should post to the eBay case).

@bobabricks, Thanks for pointing out the very used condition of the "new" brick on eBay! The asking prices are a joke IMHO.

@EddieDoesntMind, We see those kinds of markups often on eBay, too. Not sure why folks mark up sets so darn high. And then they do not sell. What a waste of everyone's time.

It does pay to do ones homework before buying any LEGO. At least we should know what the item is selling for and in what condition before putting our money on the table. Thank goodness for Bricklink, etc.!

I can understand marking up high, but not if you have a cheaper option 20 mins away. A lot of stuff on Ebay sells for a high price because people want it now, delivered or whatever. People on high wages cant be bothered to save £££s if they are after something special.

just because lego store is near does not mean that they would have it in stock. this set has been out of stock at most locations.

i have not been able to get one. well i procrastinated and did not order from S@H when it was available. now its not available there and seems to be out of all lego stores around me. ...

Yes, a lot of folks have to have things RIGHT NOW. I don't feel that way, but many do. The US culture unfortunately pushes immediate gratification, and all the ads that overwhelm us (everywhere it seems) push, push and push more for folks to buy something right now. Especially those ads targeting younger people. It is sad that they are made to believe that their lives will be total crap if they don't buy something today.

I have no problem waiting a month or year to get something, but when supplies are low from LEGO, sometimes I miss out on a set like Research Institute because it came and went so fast. I can live with this, but many folks obviously can't judging from the $60. plus price of this $20. set on eBay this week. Too much consumption is worse than too little much of the time.

^ Am I missing something? That seems like a fairly high, but not ridiculous price. There are several cheaper ones on Bricklink but the condition of that eBay one is excellent, so £150.99 is not too bad all things considered.
