Use Brickset database for a homemade software

I'd like to create a little software that allow me to catalogue my sets (and will have some functions I need).

In order to pre-write some textfields, I thought to use Brickset's database, because it is complete and opportunely updated.

So I'd like to know:
- Are there problems to do that? I mean, do you allow to external softwares to access the database or it is forbidden? I don't want to do nothing that defiles some rule or that don't like to the owner of the database.
- Is there a documentation that explain how to access the database?

Thanks.

You can access the entire database using web services which are documented here

There are other methods but this is the preferred, and supported, method.

You might want to try rebrickable.com which integrates with Brickset and has already done the hard work.
