Peeron is only so useful - it is not maintained (as far as I know), and as such it is slow and new sets and corrections do not get added frequently. That said, it has a more sensible interface than Bricklink (the major alternative). I think I would be right in saying that most people here use Bricklink, though.

For sets produced up to about 2010, Peeron is about as accurate as Bricklink in their inventories (neither are perfect, and each has its own positive and negative traits IMO). For sets produced in 2011-2012, many sets are not inventoried (and some are not even in the database, since Peeron pulls set information from LUGnet's set database), since indeed the site is no longer actively maintained. Any sets from 2013 on are not in Peeron.

I agree that Peeron's interface, while not perfect, is easier to view and use than Bricklink's, and I'm sorry to see that Huw has not been able to negotiate anything concerning Peeron to date. Keep trying, Huw, I loves my Peeron!

I have found that BL inventory is more accurate with part types than peeron generally.
Plus you can show photos in the BL inventory list, but need to click on the option to show them.
I do not like the figures being in one piece on the inventory form (as I usually print them out) so that is a bit of a snag, but then I usually have the instructions to see the figure anyway..
I do miss Peeron though.

@edgarallanpoe1422: I think your photo #1 also has a kingdoms castle piece in it as well

You can click the "Break Minifigs"-link at the top of the bricklink inventory-list - that will put heads, legs, torsos and hats into the part list just as any other part.

Also, I find that sorting by Item Name rather than Color Name, and selecting the printer-friendly page, gives me pages close to "the olde peeron-look" ... A lot of extra button-pushing though.

One thing I really like about Peeron is that they have a color list cross-referencing a lot of different LEGO color nomenclature. It's not perfect, obviously: Bricklink and TLG color names do NOT have a 1:1 relationship, and there are some other somewhat glaring errors (179 Silver Flip/Flop Is NEVER identified as Flat Silver on Bricklink or as PearlSilver on Peeron). But on the whole the list is one of the more comprehensive and accurate ones available on the Internet. Someday I'd like to make my own LEGO color database which, in addition to cross-referencing different naming schemes, identifies the timelines for which each color was available and colors it is frequently misidentified as. But I'm a long way from that goal.

I don't like using Peeron for inventories most of the time, because I find it's a lot easier to find information with less clicking in the Bricklink database. But the Peeron database does get some things more accurate than Bricklink. For one, they acknowledge DkNougat (128 Dark Nougat) as a color, whereas Bricklink often misidentifies it as Earth Orange (12 Light Orange Brown).

That is in Lego inventories as Dark Nougat

Dark Nougat is a colour with approximately 10 to 20 parts produced but it doesn't feature at all on Bricklink so all of them will be misidentified.

Got these little fellers for £1.99 off eBay (is that a good price...?)...but more to the point are they worth much? I know some of them look like they're from Star Wars but they also look a bit mixed up...any advice would be appreciated...

The blue ninja is Jay from Ninjago NJO004. The others are mixed up (except maybe the yellow trooper). The head on the left is a witch head from CAS215. The rightmost torso is from Red Beard (a pirate captain). Nothing particularly rare and I am not sure the torso on the 2nd guy is even LEGO. Still probably worth at least what you paid.

The body on the second guy is definitely not lego, maybe M***Crap. The sword is part 48495 and is from castle sets around 2004.
The clone trooper in the middle, wrong legs but the guy on the far right has the correct ones is this guy here and is from a battle pack. The helmet on the right along with the second from right torso and legs are part of this guy. The pirate torso is from these guys. I also recognise the face on the first figure but can't for the life of me find it. I'm sure it's from early 2000s and I have a couple of them kicking around somewhere.

Anyone recognize this piece? It was in a lot of vintage Lego. It appears to be a hinged lid of some sort, 4 studs wide, the plastic feels like Lego, but I can't find a Lego marking on it.

Does it have any number markings on it? It looks like it has lots of room on it to put a logo or design ID but I'm not sure if the older parts always had that.

Found it! Turns out that blue piece I asked about is a trailer ramp from #680-1 or #681-1 based on the other pieces found. @ljames28 it has an A at the left and a 2 on the right.

Long shot... but can anyone check these (bad) photos of my collection of various minifigs from my dusty loft (i've got tubs of random mixed up sets too) and see if any of them are unique and relate to a certain set..if that makes sense...or if any of them are rare and valuable...thanks in advance peeps!

Yeah, looks like mostly bionicle. Specifically, I think you have #8941 and #8943 on top. There also looks like it might be the baseplate from #7739 (or a mega blok baseplate). It is just hard to see much in that pic. If you spread the stuff out on a blanket and take more detailed pics and we might be able to help more.

You mostly have pirate I figures (pirates, imperial soldiers and islanders). The only one of which that is a bit more valuable is the governor from either #6274 or #6276, but you are missing his hat! There are also some castle figures like a wolfpack guy (there are only a handful of those sets) and some crusaders. I usually identify them by looking here at bricklink:

This is my first post on these boards. You guys are awesome and very knowledgeable. My son is 6 years old and loves legos. First it was Lego Batman sets and now Lego Star Wars. We found a HUGE box of them for sale and since we have come home and we put 3 sets together. We need some help identifying these pieces so we can try to put these together. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Bottom middle is part of #7668 (Rebel trooper battle pack), bottom left and the big flat piece in the first picture are from #7661 (Jedi starfighter with hyperspace ring). And that's where my feeble knowledge runs out. Though the wedge shaped one in the first picture looks like it ought to be Star Wars as well, but it's hard to search for stickered pieces.

Anyone able to shed any light on these? First one is a set of 5 I suspect aren't Lego, but want to be sure. Second, I'm wondering what model it's from, and third one is definitely Lego but can't find which brick it is!

Second picture is from one of the Naboo Starfighter (SW) sets, 7877. It's possible that the sticker is not applied to the parts suggested by the instructions...

Third picture is the old minifig legs, http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=15. The white color appeared mostly in the old hospital sets in the mid-70's.
