My grip is about the price. :)
I agree with legofantexas, this is a display model. Lack of a minifigure in the cockpit or playability is a total non-factor for me with sets of this type. It's supposed to be a big, impressive, static display model. I don't have a problem with that.
What is the term used for the scale of MF #7965? The other scales for it are micro, mini, midi, ?, UCS.
Because we are adults, if it was $300 I would still buy it, it's not about the price thats not a factor when I'm buying collector sets and no I am I poor student.
I was referring to the note before by mressin!

No, seriously, people. Lego has a reputation for their heavy focus-group testing. I'm quite sure they didn't pick the B-Wing on pure whim. It will sell.
The trick is to keep the duds and mistakes to a minimum, make the winners as big as you can, and keep costs under control.
Therefore, "studio scale" can be ANY scale, depending on what scale model was actually used and filmed to make movie X.
Even on the first Star Wars movie, the various filmed models varied in scale, and even some of the different models of the same vehicle were constructed in different scales with bigger models for closeups and the like.
As a rule "studio scale" means "big", as usually the models used for filming tend to be quite large in order to show off detail and have a realistic look.
In theory, 7965 is "minifigure scale" as Lego has designed the kit to accomodate minifigures. Of course, the size of the ship is nowhere close to being large enough to accept minifigures in a properly scaled manner. That set is probably the best of all the "normal" MFs ever designed, but it is still a massively out of scale and proportion play set for kids.
I know, I have it!
7965 is, what... Less than half the size of 10179? 10179 is true minifig scale, but oddly enough has no interior to actually play with, which is a shame.
I was hoping 7965's scale had a nice clean type to it, like 'maxi' or something that fits after 'midi'. I also have it right next to me, on display next to the comp. I really like this size as a playset though, since its big enough to recreate different interior scenes (lacking as @LFT said, but easily MOC'able) with all the given figs. But swooshable and lightweight, it is not.
As for the cockpit not "autorotating" I imagine it's got a construction like the original B-Wing and will probably hang horizontally by gravity. It's a lot of money but I'll be snapping one up for my UCS collection along with R2 on the next double points promotion.
Still several UCS creations I'd like to see not to mention re-releases of some of the now more sought after discontinued lines. Just need to make space for it all in my spare room!
I am a mad SW fan, but have never been that impressed with the B-Wing so maybe that is the main reason, but my big issue with this.... I just cannot see me ever wanting it on display (what UCS sets are all about).
So many of the SW sets look amazing on display, but this just doesn't do it for me at all, and I can imagine 90+% of people who visit would go "what on earth is that?", rather than "wow, how cool is that" for e.g. the Shuttle.

Shame on Lego if UCS is no more:(
For other non-SW sets with the UCS plaque (Dreamliner and VW Beetle), was there ever any mention of them being "Ultimate" something grade? Whether on the box or promo materials?
I thought that was one tell tale for the UCS sets was that they all were "plaqued"
@Bandit thanks for the confirmation. Just looking at UCS MF and it has "Ultimate Collector's" listed on front where set name is and nicely done on the back in special font for the back. Also a nice little emblem for 'Certified First Editions' That's how it should be done for all UCS sets. For as much as we pay, they should come with the extra ink.
£169.99 isnt too bad, i was expecting it to be £200 xD

Do all UCS boxes have the blueprint graphic of the ships?
BTW, when are you going to publish building instructions for that? I would be happy to pay a reasonable fee to get those, it is one of those rare MOC projects that I'd take on.

So, um, rather than joining a new forum, can I just ask you here? :)
Just out of curiosity, how many quid or euros does a bottle of Coke (20 oz - 591ml), loaf of sliced sandwich bread, or other commonly purchased good cost over there? I doubt we'll solve the price discrepancy dispute, but I'd still be interested to find out.
"Take on the Empire in the ultimate collector series B-wing Starfighter! "
I'll be happy to buy and ship at cost a B-Wing to any Aussies here on the forum when it comes out. Or a SSD for that matter, I have one of those spare in the closet if anyone in Australia wants one at cost.
its so all over the place, Town Hall was 250AU vs 200US, then increased to 300 after a few months.
R2D2 is $250AU vs $180US so go figure.
I might take you up on that offer once the B-Wing is available.. need to get my hands on a death star too.
