Or just bust out the spray-paint. I have no problem with cutting or spraying if it simply creates a standard piece that lego *could* have made.
You know, now that we're on to the topic of discrepancy between box art and actual set, there is one thing that bugs me quite a bit. The tap piece that is often used the represent a spout through which fluid things are dispensed has undergone a change in recent times that filled in the hole at the tip. It bugs me because it looked so much better with the indentation. However, it bugs me more that every new set that contains the filled-in-hole piece features the old style piece on the box art.
"Thanks for getting in touch with us about the quality of elements in the new LEGO® Pirates of the Caribbean™ sets.
We would like to apologize for the discrepancy between the elements that are shown on the packaging and what is included in the sets. At the moment, a number of departments within The LEGO Group are researching the matter of the "gold" pieces. We want to make sure that the complaints are being heard and that we are taking appropriate action for our fans and consumers. It is not our intention to disappoint the LEGO community. I emailed them about the gold, and they emailed back in a couple days. Pretty cool
I think the biggest disappointment was getting the King's Carriage Ambush (7188) and not getting a single coin for the chest, not even the new pearl version. Instead, I got pearl gold colored studs! Seriously? Granted, I was quite thrilled about the other pieces in that same color (slopes, wheels and a few others) and the printing on the horses.... but I certainly would rather get the non-shiny coins than studs to represent them.
So the real question is: would you be willing to pay more for a set in order to get shiny coins and gold bars?
I was just at TRU today to buy the Blacksmith Attack, and noticed they also had the windmill set. The box of that set had shinny gold coins pictured, I even saw numbers like 10, 30, implying their the old gold coins from the classic pirate line (10, 20, 30, 40). Can anyone confirm they are actual shinny coins or has anyone seen a review discussing this?

Dunno why they did chrome coins here but not with PotC.
Well basically when I emailed them complaining about the gold, I started my email with something to the affect "please ignore my previous request for missing pieces" but nevertheless they sent me and email saying the new pieces were on their way. I figured Oh well, can't stop them now, thinking the 2 emails were sent to different departments.
Well Today I got the gold in the mail and guess what,
ITS SHINNY!!!
They sent 4 SHINNY gold coins, marked on one side with LEGO and the other side says 1, 2, 5, and 10. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've never seen a LEGO SHINNY gold coin with the numbers 1 2 or 5. I'm really excited! And the best part is, the sent a GOLD BAR that's also shinny!
Lego customer service is the BEST!

The coins in the review are shiny (in fact they are the old style ones), contrary to my own experience and that of the other people on here. The bars, however, were pearl gold.
^Your coins are apparently the new style coins, not the old ones, since the old ones were marked 10, 20, 30, and 40. Since the bars are also proper gold, perhaps the pearl gold ones were a production error.

Dave Watford from the UK has not opened and verified all of his gold pieces.
