[US & CA] LEGO City 7939 Cargo Train steep discount at Amazon France!

I just bought LEGO City 7939 Cargo Train for 110 Euros.

This works out to be $119.49 CAD ($239.99 CDN regular price) which is pretty much 50% off if you calculate pre-tax and pre-shipping. Shipping was only 10 Euros and change!

Don't ask me why shipping is so cheap from France, or why they give you a discount at checkout on top of the already great price because you live outside of Europe... just buy one!

It is indeed a heck of a deal... I'd be happier if I knew when Yellow Cargo Train was going to retire. :)

    110 euro is about 140 USD/CAD FYI

Not sure about the cheap shipping, but the price reduction is because the Europe prices include a VAT (value added tax). If you don't live in Europe, you don't have to pay it.

    I wish I wanted a Cargo Train- that's a good deal!

Once you include the shipping charges, it's about 15% Off MSRP which IMO is nothing to scoff at but also nothing to jump up and down over.

It is only $133 shipped to Canada and $130 to the US. Seems like a good deal to me. I would also like to give credit to Toys N Bricks for the price and this deal. ;)

i am wondering if amazon.com matches amazon.fr pricing

It is even less to the US when you buy 5 of them, since shipping is less per set that way.

If you have a credit card that doesn't charge a foreign fee, it gets better, let them do the conversion, you'll generally get a better rate than Amazon's conversion.

Just to inform, I have ordered from Amazon.fr twice in the past 6 months. The first time the item arrived in perfect condition (unopened). The second time the item arrived opened (possibly by customs). FYI for those purchasing to resell...

That said, I went ahead and purchased the yellow freight train (7939) because I want to build it with my kids this Fall.

Thanks for the heads-up, Jasper_Parnebrick. After reconsidering, I was able to get a couple of sets I wanted, and will hopefully be able to sell the Cargo Trains separately that results in a deal on the sets I wanted.

    Game plan is this:
    Bought 2 Cargo Trains
    Bought 1 Super Car
    Bought 1 Logging Truck
    Total=$480US including all fees

Sell 2 Cargo Trains for a net total of $280, which leaves me with a $100 Super Car and a $100 Logging Truck. Not bad, assuming my little plan works!

If they remove VAT from the price noted above, then the deal does indeed get better.

As far as giving credit to TnB, this discount at Amazon.fr can be found on Brickset's Amazon Bargain Watch Page and actually appears to have hit a lower price 5 separate times this year.

I had no idea the Brickset deals page existed. But I gave credit to TnB because that is were I saw this deal first and is the site I go to for LEGO deals.

^ It's certainly possible that the OP saw it there too. As for spotting LEGO deals, I'd say we find just as many if not more here between the Brickset Sales Updates, Amazon Bargain Watch and our diligent Forum members like @sidersdd and @Si_... Hopefully youll find some good deals now that you're aware of the Amazon Bargain Watch.

^ Holy crap! That is quick. Did you get charged customs/duties?

I got it delivered to my work.. in the past when accounting came looking for a signoff if I've had to pay duties, but that usually takes a week or two so I don't know yet.. I will update with the final damage when/if I do... Now I need to wait a year and a half till my son is 4 to give it to him for Christmas!

Received my cargo train from France. The shipping (and set) were completely torn in half and then taped. the track were actually bent and some broken. Parts were scatter everywhere, so I have no doubt many are missing.

The question is: Do I try to return it and possibly not get refunded for shipping or do I just let my credit card company deal with it? I guess it's just another one of the problems dealing with remote sellers.
