Is there age limitation on the LEGO competitions?

This is for pure curiosity, but a question I have been wondering about for some time, and that maybe only a LEGO Ambassador can answer (or get the answer to).
All the "LEGO competitions" we can enter found in toy-stores LEGO flyers and Club magazines and at home pages... when writing your name/address you should also always enter your age. Which of cause raises the question... is it only kids between 5-12 that'll win?
In that case participating makes no sense for an AFOL.
