    ^ hah! :oD

Thanks @Huw for the reply, i suspected as much. I should also just quickly add that the wordiness of my post makes it sound like a bigger gripe than i intended.

Plus i've discovered the pop up (though irritating that it throws me off the page while i'm typing) can be circumvented in a similar fashion to how i add any @'s after typing, and text-based emoticons can still be created (assuming the autoblob doesn't chase 'em down later, like it seems to have with older posts; example ;oP

Think I've seen a new (to me bug):

The John Lewis thread was recently pruned of lots of posts. Since then new posts to it aren't causing the new comment indicator to appear for me.

Presumably what's happening is my last read counter value is still ahead of the current post count and perhaps should be reset to the same value.
  • PeteMPeteM Member Posts: 447
I saw that too - thought it was just me! Your explanation makes more sense :)

Instead of a thumbnail of my uploaded jpg, a generic blank doc is shown. It started yesterday. Do I need to change something at my end? I think I'm doing the same as always.

I made 2 recent comments, they both went for review and approval.. did something change ?
  • TheLoneTensorTheLoneTensor Member Posts: 3,937
Did something change recently to not allow Ctrl+left/right arrow keys to move between words in the comment editor?  Example, if the cursor is at the end of a sentence, if you hold Ctrl and tap the left arrow key, normally (in Windows) the cursor would move by words.  This seems to have happened within a week or so to me, only here, and on multiple computers.

I like the new ability to include our locations next to our user names!

Loving the location now thanks Huw. I recently got a third anniversary badge pop up in notifications. I cannot get to the link it goes to.

Jolly good, we have @matthew to thank for working out how to do it.
  • plasmodiumplasmodium Member Posts: 1,956
I noticed yesterday that everyone had "member" after their name, but that's now been replaced by the location feature. I was going to ask what it was, but evidently it was just part of the process of adding the location field!

And @bendybadger, I love the "hails from" ;-)
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
We can now show certain roles along with locations. Admin and moderator are obviously useful to see but Member not so much given everyone is one, so we removed it.

I couldn't log in from another browser yesterday because the Google login button seems to have disappeared. I'm afraid that if I log out of this browser, I won't be able to get back in anywhere. What's happened?
  • dtadamsondtadamson Member Posts: 8
I too have lost my Google Login Button - and then when prompted to log in using my e-mail address and password I ended up using an old account I don't remember creating or using before! I miss the google login!

I just had a rather odd experience, which i've not encountered before.

Posting to a thread as normal, I realised my post needed a small edit. Clicked 'edit', and made the required change, and reposted back to the forum as normal. Nothing unusual yet.

Reading the (now edited) repost back, I then noticed another edit was required. So again, clicked edit (still with plenty of time), made the adjustment, and posted it back again as normal.

But reading back this time, i noticed the first edit had somehow been undone and the error was back, only the second edit had taken place.  Weird!

Given that i was editing a made post, and not pulling up a saved draft, I find it odd that the forum had somehow discarded the first edit when i made a second edit. Not entirely sure how that happened, as i've made multiple minor edits in quick succession to posts before, and have never encountered prior edits being undone by a subsequent edit.

Anyone else had this happen? Or was it just some quirk in the space-time continuum?

I just noticed that the 'title' of the Brickset forum homepage in the tab at the top of the browser just says 'Brickset'. I'm sure it used to say 'Brickset Forum'. Am I just going mad?

Is there any reason for the change (if indeed change there was)? I feel like 'Brickset Forum' would make more sense.

On the plus side, though, at some point in the past few months (or maybe years...I can't remember when I first noticed this), the little Brickset icons have come back - all the forum pages used to just get generic 'sheet of paper' icons in the browser tabs.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
Still says Brickset forum when I look...

OK, thought you were talking about the text in the blue bar at the top.

I'm likely to fiddle about with the template a bit shortly in response to survey comments so I'll see if it can be changed then.

Just noticed that topics with more than one new comment now say "X new plural" instead of "X new" in the little yellow box. Sure it wasn't like that half an hour ago!
  • plasmodiumplasmodium Member Posts: 1,956
Well, I'll be darned. It's changed back now. Never mind...
  • plasmodiumplasmodium Member Posts: 1,956
No, it's not gone, it's just only appearing on my tablet in 'desktop view' - not on my PC or my phone on either view, either. Probably will go away if I clear the cache or something.

It showed up briefly for me yesterday, but I refreshed the page and it returned to normal, and they are normal for me again today.

Hooray! The forum now refreshes the new post count when you go 'back' to the main page! ie, you view a thread and when you go back the main page shows it grey, instead of keeping the old number until the page refreshes.

    @Huw
Previously when you pm'd a group of people you could see a list down the right hand side of the pm as to who was included in the list. Underneath add people to this conversation and leave this conversation. Once the pm goes to over 3 people, the "title" just lists 3 random names and x number of people.

Today I received a group pm and the list of recipients down the right hand side is missing. Thinking it was because I did not initiate said pm I went back to one I had. The list is missing there too. Not sure when this changed (must be after Jan 13th as that's when I know I saw it last for definite) but could we have it back please. It's particularly useful when arranging meetups because it means everyone can see who is included (or not) and people can be added at any stage and get all the chat.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
IF I had any control over it I'd add it back :)
  • Lego_StarLego_Star Member Posts: 2,144
Darn! Thanks for the update @Huw. Maybe the new  "Moderate" link that has appeared within my profile means they are just relocating some functionality but haven't quite finished yet? I know that's a stretch but one can hope? ;o)

And I'd just got the ipad to add a new person successfully for the first time too, previously the box wouldn't allow me to type. Darn darn darn darny darn!

Has anyone else encountered this problem: when I click on a topic it doesn't skip to the last comment made anymore. Not sure how if it's the newly updated google chrome app or a problem with the forum itself?
Update - same thing occurs on Safari actually. Just goes to the top of the page instead of skipping to the last comment read

Just a quick one, but when tagging users, any username with a full stop in it doesn't tag properly. So I can tag @Huw fine, but if I try to tag @mr.piggles it doesn't work.

According to the forum I've created 10 discussions, yet I only count 8:

    http://bricksetforum.com/profile/discussions/13983/xwingpilot

What's going on there? Is there something up with the counters?
  • MatthewMatthew Administrator Posts: 3,714
When you report a post it creates a hidden discussion to alert the moderation team. I can see you've reported two posts. Unfortunately it's a limitation of the way the reported posts feature works that these reports are added to your discussion counter.
  • xwingpilotxwingpilot Member Posts: 799
Thanks for the explanation @Matthew. That explains it. Weird functionality though.

I only have this problem here on my kindle, no other site I use. When typing pretty much every word gets deleted as I type the next word, unless I use predicted suggestions or click away and come back so the word typed is no longer underlined.
Here is that same paragraph typing naturally.

Seriously? Takes me ages to post anything. Anyone know if this is a setting on the site or a bug?

Kindle fire yeah. My laptop kept overheating and making a lot of noise so $35 for the kindle fire was mopney well spent, I don't need anything fancy.

^ It could be a problem with the way the site treats text input from your software - an issue with how the forum interacts with either the Silk browser or your keyboard app. I can't remember if there are alternate free keyboard apps in the amazon appstore, but worth a look, and then maybe try looking at different settings within Silk or download a different browser. After that, I'd suggest looking at Amazon support options.

Sorry but it'll be a bit of trial and error I'm afraid...

  • plasmodiumplasmodium Member Posts: 1,956
Kindle Fire is essentially an Android tablet with an Amazon marketing skin overlaid on it and the Amazon app store instead of Google Play. If SwiftKey is on the Amazon app store, it's a pretty good stock keyboard replacement.
  • legobodlegobod Member Posts: 334
Trying my luck with chrome... And it seems to work! Must be a problem with the silk browser then because not a single word has been deleted here.

I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I made some stupid topic about clone minifigs at some point, and @Huw combined it into the clone brand master thread. Now every time someone posts on that thread, I get a notification, and I find those to be annoying.

Is there any way to stop getting notifications from just this topic?

there is a global setting in profile->settings->notification preferences. I don't see where you can set it on a topic by topic basis though
