Have to say, I am really not a fan of the removal of the yellow boxes, can make out the grey, white shading...just, but it is far from clear. The previous solution worked and worked well for me.

Additionally, I'm now having trouble commenting in the mobile version. Anyone else?
There are times where the Post Comment button does not work in the mobile mode. I usually have to switch between landscape and portrait (using iPhone here) or viceversa and it works. This only started happening after the last upgrade.

Really would like to see the yellow boxes come back to instantly see when a post I've read has more responses. Otherwise, thanks, and keep up the good work!

New to this thread so apologies if already said, but the 'unread' yellow boxes seem to have moved. I have no idea what I've read any more. Chaos. Almost didnt read this thread because it looked like I'd already read it.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
Turns out that on threads you haven't read the word 'new' is output but was being hidden by CSS display:none. I've changed it to display:inline and it pops up in yellow now.

    Is that to your liking?
  • LegoboyLegoboy Member Posts: 8,827
Just spotted that myself and came here for an explanation. Perfick. Thanks Huw.

But yes, yes I would clean you out.

Aw.. I liked the gray/white/yellowtag for read/unread/updates system. That way stuff I was interested in was coming up yellow and stuff that I never even checked out wasn't so glaring. Compared to the traditional way, I liked the new system MUCH better.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
    Much better! Thanks @Huw

@the admins @Yellowcastle or other admin?
How come an entire thread/topic just disappeared?
Don't know what the exact title is/was, but it was/is something along the lines of whether or not LOTRLego will be just as collectable as StarWarsLego.
Is/was that a bug, or has it disappeared for other reasons?
    ps.
If you prefer me asking such questions elsewhere or via a PM let me know.

Ooooooooh OK never mind I see what happened it got moved somewhere else.
    How nooobish of me!

What about threads with new comments not showing up as updated or being taken too far back when visiting a thread with updates?

^ I haven't observed this myself but that, presumably, is a bug...

Would changing the colour of the word 'new' help distinquish it, and please those who like it and those who preferred when it wasn't there?
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
    ^ Couldn't hurt to try...

The upgrade is a bit buggy. Some of us have experienced existing (and read/participated) discussions stay grey even after new comments. Additionally, we're no longer always being taken to the correct spit in the discussion....probably due to the change from post # to "latest" in the URL. Lastly, some of us are having difficulty posting comments in the mobile version. Can you escalate to Vanilla @Huw ?
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
Additionally, I've noticed that the comment count on discussions no longer includes the original post. As such, scrolling by new discussions with "one" comment makes them appear to have been generated by the first commenter. I definitely don't care for this change.

@Huw - the purple for "all new" looks good!

I like the new purple new! Excellent compromise!

I can barely make out the light grey, so that's not ideal. What really bothers me though, is that I can't see how many (new) messages an unread thread has. For as I open it, all current comments in that thread are marked as read. If I have little time to read, I'm not going to start reading a new topic with, say, 100 or more comments. Without the yellow '# new' I can't distinguish the small threads from the large ones.

Your automated avatar was the first that I saw... and it remains my favorite :P

I just saw that I missed that the no. of posts is still mentioned, but just missed it because it's no longer in yellow...
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
I would like to comment on the automatic assignment of thumbnail avatars. If madforlegos did not choose his/hers, it is absolutely befitting.

Why are there ads on the site now? Something called "text enhance". Btw, the Master Threads at the top of the page are all screwed up.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^ I'm not following. I see no issues. Please explain.

Seems like the ads are now gone. But here is an image of the master threads.

Did a Google search on Text Enhance and it seems like a malware virus. Not sure if it is from my computer or Brickset.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
There are 2 ways to announce a thread....you can announce it in it's category only or in it's category and "All Discussions " view. The "Acronym" discussions and the "Help me identify a part" discussion are currently announced only in their respective categories. I can see how it would get confusing, though, as the semi-announced threads will move up and down with activity in the "All Discussions" view. That being said, it's a nice new function that works great in "Category" view.

I'm not sure what you saw with regards to advertisements...

^ Gotcha. Here is the ads I saw:
    image
So some of the text in a post is highlighted blue, like a link. And if you hover over it, an ad pops up.

Wouldn't announcing it in All Discussions have the same effect in Category View as announcing it in only it's Category? In other words, I don't see the point of only announcing something in Category View. If someone doesn't care for an announcement they can always dismiss it, but if you put it in Category View only it doesn't stay on top for people (like me) who prefer that view. On the flip side, if you announce it in all views, you still have it on top for people who use Category View.
  • brickmaticbrickmatic Member Posts: 1,071
^ By "that view" I meant the All Discussion View.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
No 'text enhance' installed here to my knowledge. SkimLinks are, but they are unobtrusive.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
As @sidersdd pointed out, the 'Post Comment' button only works in the Mobile Version while viewing in "Landscape" orientation. How weird is that?
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^^^^ I believe the idea behind announcing only in the root category was that it would take up less prime vertical real estate in the All Discussions view. But I admit it does look funky floating up and down with activity. I'd be ok changing these back but will let the staff have a chance to first weigh in.

Looks like it. I see a quote icon next to the quote link and that the post counts that are displayed like 1K instead of 1000. Anything else?
