It would appear that the Forum has been updated again today. What sort of changes are we seeing?

Where have all the strange faces in the 'Who's Online' section come from?
Seems like anyone who hasn't added their own profile pic has been given one.
    I don't like them...
  • princedravenprincedraven Member Posts: 3,764
    Oooh yeah....
    It's an invasion! :o
  • andheandhe Member Posts: 4,002
I like them! At it would encourage me to get a profile pic if I was assigned one I didn't like! Better than the facebookalike silhouettes that were there before.

No comment, just want to see my weird face...

    Edit: I'm a pirate! :D
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
They look really disturbing all lined up though!
  • legomattlegomatt Member Posts: 2,548
Hah! They look great! Do they change each time you log in, or are they assigned? I wonder what mine would have been had I not uploaded a pic just a few days ago... anyway, excellent addition to the site.
  • caperberrycaperberry Member Posts: 2,226
And on Discussion index, only threads with new comments are in bold - looks much nicer! Is someone having a spring clean/refresh?
  • LegobrandonCPLegobrandonCP Member Posts: 1,917
They add some life into the forum. Much better than the generic "Facebook" human profile picture.

I'm starting to now enjoy what faces have been given to people, e.g. @jenni, @madforlego, and @legofantexas. I like @mressin's best I think.
But I still find them a bit freaky en masse!

Edit- Oooh, and in excellent other update news there is now an edit option on the mobile site!! yayyyyyy!

@LostInTranslation - I don't see an "edit comment" option in the Mobile version...
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
    edited May 2012
Well, I had one coz I used it!

Edit - and there it is again, on the right-hand side near the quote option.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^ Are you sure you're talking about the "Mobile Version?" On my iPhone, I still don't have the Quote or Edit features.
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572

    Yes, I'm sure!

I am on my phone and I clicked the link at the bottom to full site then switched back to mobile site and I can still edit. As evidenced by this edition.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^ I've just reset my cookies and I do indeed now show Quote and Edit in the Mobile Version. Does it let you still edit your Post above even though it's been more than 6 minutes?

    Running List of Changes:

    - Quote and Edit Functionality now in Mobile Version
    - Prefab Avatars now appearing for members who never loaded their own
    - Some discussions are lightly grayed out (perhaps those in which you've participated?)
    - Your own discussions are no longer shaded blue
  • scratchdeskscratchdesk Member Posts: 155
New topics that I haven't looked at before now read "new" instead of something like "X new". Not a big change, but something I noticed.

Topics that you read are given a CSS class 'Read' which overrides the 'Mine' class when the background colour is assigned, so they are greyed out rather than blue. so your own topics are not blue if you've read to the end.

I can fix in the custom CSS if it's felt I should. Personally I liked my topics showing blue.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
I also liked the blue for my own topics.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
^ They are back, as are bold headings on read topics, which IMO looks better.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
    ^ Much better.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
    gotta see my avatar...
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
wow, ok. I look kind of like I'm a little bit ... loaded? and probably absolutely bonkers as well.
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^The avatar gives an expression like you're happily delirious after just finished sorting 30lbs of used & dirty bricks lol.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
Maybe it's just me... but are the discussions not updating 'properly' for anyone else? Or does it now only tell you when there are new posts in discussions you've particpated it/looked at?
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
The yellow "xxx new" indicating the number of new comments in a thread only appears next to discussions that you have previously read, whereas before they also showed on discussions that you never visited.

It might just take a little getting used to, but I'm not sure I like that behavior.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^ I didn't notice that but if it is indeed the case then I hate it. I absolutely rely on the yellow boxes.
  • brickmaticbrickmatic Member Posts: 1,071
^ Yes it is the case. I was thrown off by the change, but now I realize it actually works well. Remember that the topic will turn grey if you've read to the end, so any topic that you haven't read will be white without the yellow new tag. The yellow new tag is for topics that are partially read or, as if the intent I suppose, for topics that have new messages since you're read them last.
  • LegobrandonCPLegobrandonCP Member Posts: 1,917
:( I too, relied on the yellow boxes. It is so confusing now because new threads don't have the yellow box and I don't know if I've read it or not. It frustrating.
  • brickmaticbrickmatic Member Posts: 1,071
^ If the shading on the thread is white you have not read it. If the shading on the thread is gray you have read it. If someone posts something new in the thread since you have last read it, there will be a yellow box.
  • LegobrandonCPLegobrandonCP Member Posts: 1,917
^ I know this makes me sound lazy but I have to move and tilt my head back in order to see the grey and white shading. Otherwise, all the threads look white.
  • brickmaticbrickmatic Member Posts: 1,071
^ Might be easier to simply tilt the monitor. Or perhaps your monitor is not calibrated correctly. Or it's old and due for an upgrade. In any case, there should be no need to tilt your head.

This new method of tracking new and updated threads via grey/white shading is not working for me. Everyday it seems that a couple of threads get updated but each stayed grey. Additionally, I'm now having trouble commenting in the mobile version. Anyone else?

    Same problem here.
  • brickmaticbrickmatic Member Posts: 1,071
I'm also seeing an issue where I click on a thread that has updates and I'm taken to a point in the thread that is farther back than it should be. I know because I'm looking at the comments and I come to a comment made by me. Also, didn't the url used to show the specific comment number in the fragment identifier (portion after the hash tag)? It now shows a generic "latest".
  • LegobrandonCPLegobrandonCP Member Posts: 1,917
    ^ And that too.
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^^ that might be the issue....it's not recognizing that there have been new comments since your last view/post and thus doesn't highlight the thread for you...
