Which Space sets do you think were inspired by films?

It's tempting to say Star Wars. Those three wedge-shaped spaceships from the late 1970s, for example. And Alien Moon Stalker/Thunderfoot Launcher. Although vehicles on legs have actualy been an image which dates back to the 1950s when some engineer built a four-legged 'walking truck'.

The 8891 desinger's idea book has a exosuit very similar to Ripley's in Aliens. The head of the Robot from set 1498 looks very similar to Johny 5 from Short Circuit.

Hmmm...there's a couple of sets here (http://www.brickset.com/browse/themes/?Theme=Star Wars) which seem VERY familiar from some movie or another, but I just couldn't say why.... :P

The Alien Conquest tripod is similar to the one in "War of the Worlds".

I would say it's possible the red colour scheme of M-Tron was inspired by Red Dwarf (which came out only a year or two before M-Tron), but I'm not sure if Red Dwarf was all that well known outside the UK back then.

6891 was called "Dark Star" in the UK. So the name at least might have been inspired by the film.
