My son is one of 12 kids on the Junior Construction Panel for Kansas City's new LDC (and couldn't be more excited!).

I took some video of their first trip to LDC during a press preview this past Thursday. If you'd like to check it out:

Having never been to an LDC (we actually went the gift shop in Chicago but avoided the LDC) I thought the LDC was small but really well made and nice looking. It's pretty top notch at least in our area.

I'd love your general thoughts on LDC.

I can barely put into words how much I hate the LDC near me. Hateful thing that builds up your hopes only to rip them apart like the devil scratching chunks of raw flesh from your chest before removing your bloodied and still beating heart.

That about sums it to for me.

Nothing cool to check out in the Miniland? I'm guessing no. ;-)

I think part of the draw is knowing what all the KC landmarks look like already. Might be worth it with the discount tickets online

LOL!!! Can you say how you really feel about it? ;-)
    (I'm still giggling over here.)

When visiting family in Chicago, we have passed on it. We had heard it wasn't worth the admission price. I have no actual experience with one, though.

    @tamamahm

That's the exact same thing we did. We're getting passes this year but I'm not sure what you do if you go back several times

Do you get to touch the bricks in the shelf stackers? I would love to mix that lot up. Making someone sort them all out again would be worth the admission fee. :-)

Must say that after going to the LDC near me (Schaumburg, IL) I was very dissapointed. While I'm sure not a whole lot can be done to prevent many of the issues I just got the feeling it was far too small and un-interesting. Everything had a greasy sheen to it, thanks to it being mostly hands on. The place was over crowded and they had the theater closed due to a builder event going on. I certainly have no intention of going back there anytime in the near future.

We went to the new one in Atlanta, GA in March. While it's not how I'd choose to spend a day alone my then 7-year-old loved it. We were with friends and ended up spending 4-5 hours there. Buying tickets online it cost $50 for three of us. We'll go again some time.

I got a free year membership to the one in Chicago when I bought the tower bridge in December at the ldc shop so you could check for promos like that.

@brclark82 Not a bad way to kill two birds with one stone

I think the one here in Chicago (Schaumburg) is too small for the price. Also, if you are a VIP member with Lego you only get a 5% discount on items in the shop. Can't use VIP points or get points for items you purchase.

@kevin8041 VIP points are 5% of your purchase so the fact that they just give you 5% off is nice..you don't have to get to $100 To use your points

That's more of a problem with the fact that LEGO doesn't own or run the LDC's, so I guess it's nice of the LDC to at least acknowledge the VIP. The real disaster at LDC is the PAB sold by weight! Yikes! Is there any way to make that work out in your favor!?
