Snowman R2D2

edited April 2012 in Collecting
I have a friend in LA who is responsible for getting me back into collecting after a 20 year dark period.. He's a big collector and sent me a snowman R2D2.. It has 2 carrots on the face like a snowman would have, he said he got it from a Lego employee and that it might be in the 2012 Advent calendars. Don't know how to upload a photo from my phone, but has anyone seen this before?

^I've heard of it before and yes, I believe that it is going to be available in the 2012 Advent calendar.

^Along with a Santa Darth Maul I believe

Is it common to see them early? With it coming out in a few months, i can't imagine they are too valuable?

^You got it! To tell the truth, the Santa Darth Maul looks a little freaky. :-O

^Yes my thoughts exactly. But at least it will compliment the Santa Yoda. However, I'm quite disappointed with the other figs they chose for this upcoming year. Typical minifigs that can be had in regular sets, meh.

thats pretty cool, looks like they made it crude looking using crooked lines and coal pieces on the dome.

I wonder how many of these are out right now? Didn't see any on EBay.
  • samiam391samiam391 Member Posts: 4,484
Not very many at all as the Advent Calender has yet to be released. You said your friend received it from a LEGO employee, and that's probably the only way anyone is getting these early right now. Considering that they will be available for everyone in a matter of months though will plummet this figures value back down to the average Advent calendar figure price.

Ya, I'm sure it's value is minimal. Probably in the $10 range, just because it's exclusive to the calendar.

Didn't one get stolen from the toy fair as well?

I don't really get it. Why does he have two noses?
  • BoiseStateBoiseState Member Posts: 804
    Stolen? From which toy fair?
  • samiam391samiam391 Member Posts: 4,484
    ^^Possibly... I've heard rumors.

^NY Toy Fair I believe, although I could be wrong.
  • BoiseStateBoiseState Member Posts: 804
Hmm.. I know this one came from the west coast. Seems like an odd thing to steal, as there must have been other minifigs with much more value at the NY Toy Fair.

I don't get why it has 2 carrots either.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
The carrots arent noses it is just a "snowman motif" for the blue grill panels that r2 normally has in that area.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
I see. IMO it would look better with level eyes and a single carrot nose pointing down, but maybe that's just me.
  • BoiseStateBoiseState Member Posts: 804
Ya, I think so too. It's got a strange look to it.
  • devilheaddevilhead Member Posts: 286
Then it wouldn't look like R2-D2. It is not supposed to look like a snowman; it's R2-D2 made of snow.

    Ah, a snow robot.

I wonder where they would put the carrot if they did a C-3PO one.... Thinks back to that 1970s Topps "boner" card.

That's a pretty PT heavy calendar... think I'll have to pass.

Ya, the Santa Maul is the only thing I'm interested in.

Funny you should mention that card. I only found out about that card about a year ago. I went back and checked my old star wars cards which I still have and realized I have one error card and one of the modified re-released card. Chuckle hehe :). You interested in the error card?
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
^ I've got both too. I had the original from when I was a kid, but I bought the corrected card later. I'm fairly sure I never knew it was there as a kid.

@rainstorm26 Are you selling the card and how much would you like for it??
