Suggestion: Country Flags

It would be nice to have a country flag next to the user name in forum posts. That would streamline posts like:
User A - "I have a set xxxx for trade!"
User B - "What country are you in?"

Love the idea. Perhaps it can be a little icon incorporated into the profile picture/avatar of a user. Example:

As long as there is an index somewhere for those of us that are too lazy to learn all the flags =)

Another solution would just to have it be one of the pieces of information at the top of the page when you click on a user.

^ I thought it would be most helpful for people to see their own county's flag and be more interested in the post. You wouldn't so much have to learn all the other flags as just know "That's not mine so I don;t need to read what that guy wants to trade".

^^ Like the idea of overlaying the corner of the avatar.

I don't think there's much customization Huw can do with the forum software. However, one possible solution could be to have users incorporate flags into their avatars. Perhaps a convention of placing it in the top left corner of their avatar.

^ Problem is - not much space to work with on the avatars once they are resized to fit in the message posts, and they can get distorted.

^ looks fine on my end.

If you want to add a flag, or anything else, to your avatar, then fill ya boots.
One of the guiding principles we decided on at the beginning was to keep the forums as clear of frippery, gimmicks and such nonsense as possible. Hence no post counts, signature blocks, ranks, etc. I'd put automated flags, etal, in the same category, but if folk want to manually add them to their own profile and avatar, then I have no objection.

^ and thank you for that decision. I quite enjoy the clean and uncluttered look and feel of this forum. Less is definitely more - my eyes go right to useful information, without the cluttered mess of "junk"

I love the idea and it is quite easy for people to add flags to their avatars. I have done mine and don't mind helping people do theirs too. If it helps out.
