Old vs. New Base plates

Is it just me or are the road-plates we have now "flimsier" than the good old ones we had in the 80´s? They seems thinner, although I have nothing to compare with and well.. long time and good memories ;-)

Anyway, Lego know to charge a good price for them..

Hell, I would just be happy if they included baseplates in sets. All we get now is those thick plates.

The downside of that is that you either have to pay for a baseplate for every set, or you get less parts in the set to hit a certain price.

I prefer it the way it is. You can buy baseplates separately if you want them, and re-use them for different sets. Baseplates are not the sort of thing that are hard to find in a collection.

As to the thick plates, I understand what you mean. They could replace them with baseplates. But they are good for people that do custom builds. I think someone on the other thread mentioned cost of baseplates vs regular plates, and the regular ones are cheaper to produce.
