- Nobody needs to remind me about Lego's "no war" policy, but as they'd always say in M*A*S*H "We're not soldiers!". Doctors are doctors, nothing modern warfarewise, and it would strictly be about retro medical units.
**Edit** Sorry just realized it's not a license and I'm not on topic :)
But as far as license go, if WE HAD TO see more (I like traditional core themes and yellow figs) , I think a Dragon Ball theme would be kinda cool. I haven't watched the show since I was in middle school and am not really all that into anime, but upon thinking of a good theme, I just thought they could use all the rubbery Chinese plastic parts for the hair, the existing hockey armor for saiyan armor, and there's a lot of potential for cool figures. I don't know if Dragon Ball is still relevant but I know some kids that still like it, but it is pretty violent.
*Still want the original Mighty Morphing Power Rangers incarnated to Lego
Lone Ranger lego anyone? Iron Man 3 is a cert (and by the sounds of things will feature Mandarin and other chinese themed stuff).
But I'm with the Roman and Greek lines. Battle pack of four soldiers for a tenner? You'd be able to have 100s strong armies. They could also reuse some of the Atlantis bricks for larger sets - temples and baths, etc.
However, if it's licensed theme we're talking about, I agree with the consensus that it'll tie in with the next Disney blockbuster.
Thing is, Lego on average have 4 licensed themes a year (excluding spongebob). Last year, we had SW, HP, Cars and PotC, and the year before that, SW, Toy Story, PoP and HP.
This year, it's SW, Super Heroes, LotR and Cars.
SW will be around for the next 10 years.
I think that Super Heroes will also be a long term project.
LotR I suspect will be a 2-3year run.
Which means that they'll only be room for 1, perhaps 2 more new licenses next year to replace Cars which is almost certainly gone.
For me, I'd like Star Trek given the lack of a Space theme this year (the first time in many years - a sad day indeed).
Maybe a Lego Prometheus theme would have more chances?
I want Crixus and Oenameus immortalised in Lego, dammit!
Avenger's Game of Thrones sets would be cool though as well, though ever so slightly controversial!
Oh, and I for one would LOVE the Muppets in LEGO form. Sign me up for the Muppet Show Theater.
I guess we can expect to see lego sets tied in with all the Marvel Stuff - IronMan 3, Thor 2 as well as 2 other untitled movies! (Amongst all that, we have to see a Nick Fury fig at some point).
And maybe Monsters Inc/University to replace Cars?
I'm all for the Greek/Roman figs - why not? - we already have Castle/Kingdoms - pretty much the same deal - it could be an adventure series if anything
Muppets would be epic - the new movie was great - they already have the Disney license - I'm sure kids would enjoy them
In terms of Disney - I'm hoping for some classic movie sets - steam boat willie, queen of hearts castle, dwarves cottage - that would be worth buying (IMO)
As far as the next license - Nintendo is high on my list - there are too many characters, buildings, and vehicles to choose from - Star foxes ship, Peach's castle, Hyrule castle, Mario kart tracks (I know K'NEX already has this license - but it is garbage compared to what LEGO could do), I mean the list goes on - the minifigs would be all too solid as well - The kids love Nintendo, AFOL love Nintendo (at least I do) - it's a no-brainer
Halo would be sweet as well (Halo 4 is coming out soon - so it would make sense).. I know they missed the boat on that license as well - but who knows..
- Power Rangers
- Formula 1 (Sets with all teams, drivers and tracks since 1950)
- Narnia
- James Bond
They would most likely pull in many kids that had been interested in the Harry Potter line. I think it would also pull adults, if they did some of the Greek mythology right. It would also pull in a few females, as long as they made the main characters.
If not that, then I would just love to see a Greek/roman mythology line.
Waldorf: The acting is so wooden, they should make Muppet lincoln logs!
S&W: (guffaw)
Seriously, I would be all over Statler and Waldorf minifigs. And Beeker!
But unlike what someone said upthread, I think Monsters Inc minifigs and sets will be awesome and I think it's a near-lock that a line will be produced from that license. Will slot in as a natural replacement for Cars.
As a replacement for SpongeBob, I would say Geronimo Stilton would be a can't-miss proposition, and mouse and cat minifig heads would be sweet.
As a replacement for Harry Potter, the dream would be Mortal Engines. Artemis Fowl is another possibility.
Or edit them after posting...
it was supposed to say:
S&W: guffaw (with angle brackets)
Stair car
Banana Stand
Wee Britain
Blue Man Tobias Funke
Never Nude Tobias Funke
Mole Man Tobias Funke
Hot Cops...
I didn't watch the new movie when it was in cinemas, but recently catched it on dvd - and I must say, that could very well become a succeful series.
The books are awesome, and the whole Tintin-graphics really lends itself to the LEGO style. I could easily see a lot of exploration-themed sets, kind of like the Pharaos Quest and Orient Express themes, but with the various Tintin-characters.
Also, I would LOVE a LEGO Tintin-moon rocket!
