Lego Back to the Future, DeLorean Time Machine (21103) checklist:

-It will be released on 18th July 2013 and cost £34.99 in the UK.
-It is a 3-in-1 model as the instructions give the builder the opportunity to add details to the car to modify into three different versions that represent the three different movies.
-It has movie like features like opening doors, folding wheels, the iconic rear of the DeLorean and the iconic screen that sets the time and date of the destination.
-Minifigures included are Marty McFly with skateboard/Hoverboard and Doc Brown.

We know that. Apart from you already posting it in a separate thread which wasn't needed, all of that information is already in this thread and is old news now anyway. Why on earth are you posting it again?

Oh and surely you mean 88mph, I don't think a true fan would get something like that wrong.

So how long before a The World's End submission makes 10000? Maybe replacing the Winchester sign and a few blue LEDs inside minifig heads.

I hope it gets more supporters. You've got to wonder what TLG thinks of all these cuusoo projects that would need licenses though. (ex. The Legend of Zelda, The Wizard of Oz, Ghostbusters, etc.)

When you vote for something on cuusoo they ask you how many of these sets would you buy. I usually truthfully answer one. Is this hurting the chances of the project being picked?

The other thing they ask you is how much would you pay for this set. I never have a clue how to answer this. Is there a way to fairly judge how much that set would cost? Once again, if I'm saying to low of a price point is that going to affect their decision to pick that project?

    No.

Just imagine if the only sets to reach 10,000 in a review period were a brothel, a model of the human penis and a mural of the words "F*CK YOU" (not censored).

When you vote for something on cuusoo they ask you how many of these sets would you buy. I usually truthfully answer one. Is this hurting the chances of the project being picked?

I don't think so. They will use that number to determine demand as in the number of sets in the first wave, not demand as in how badly you want it.

They are asking for 10000 supporters. If they have a business case at that point, they are not going to drop the project just because another project would sell 10001 copies. Conversely, if they don't have a business case at 10000 copies, they are unlikely to have one at 10001.

Besides, this ain't Kickstarter so you are under no obligation to actually buy a single set even if you specify ten. And they know it. And they also know that the overwhelming majority of people buy exactly one copy of any set in the first place. So if anything, they will be looking at aggregated data and perhaps postpone a project where people would buy one copy on average in favor of a project that might sell two copies on average, but if both projects pass the review otherwise, then both projects still pass the review. Remember that a review can have any number of winners.

The other thing they ask you is how much would you pay for this set. I never have a clue how to answer this. Is there a way to fairly judge how much that set would cost?

No, there is not. In fact you're looking at it backwards, in a way. Remember that what you're seeing is never the final model. What the final model will look like will depend in no small part on what price the supporters of the project have specified, on average. If it's $30, you'll get like 300 parts. If it's $100, TLG would be stupid not to consider making it much bigger. If it's only $1, you'll get a polybag. Or more likely it won't pass the business-case review, but still: the point here is that it is not the model that determines the price, but rather the price that determines the model. What you're looking at right now is just concept art, a TL;DR.

I discovered this project recently. It's without a doubt the best Cuusoo project I've ever seen in terms of sheer usefulness, and something I think every AFOL should be supporting!

I like supporting projects like this that face an uncertain fate if they get to review. I feel like I'm doing my part to help refine the boundaries of what can or can't become a product. In this case, it COULD perhaps be done as a brick-based product, but it's far more likely to be the sort of thing the LEGO Group would do through a third-party licensing partner, much like many non-brick-based projects such as books and software. Can LEGO Cuusoo support that kind of thing? Let's find out!

I haven't supported many new parts projects but I'd like to see one of those get to the review threshold as well, for a similar reason. There are guidelines in place for how such projects would be handled, but I feel the LEGO Group needs to put these to the test and determine if they work as well in practice as they do in theory. Supposedly, new part projects would just be incorporated in regular sets, not separately sold. But will the LEGO Group's designers take on that responsibility without hesitation? For some new part projects, which have particularly specialized applications, it may take some convincing, which could hurt the projects in review.

^ That is a nice idea. I have a home made ruler version, which just does lengths in studs. It is just 1x4 plates in alternating colours on top of other 1x plates. I prefer the unit of 4 rather than 5 since it is more lego-like.

I've decided to do the following:

    10 Worst projects on CUUSOO

Ok, I realise it might be a futile exercise trying to rank the worst 10 out of all 4800+ projects, but I'm bored, so I'm going to give it a go. Please note I have no wish to denigrate what people are designing (and I use the word advisedly), and I will stress that these are purely my own personal opinion. I just want to showcase those projects which are unloved and unwanted, rather than fancy-dandy projects that everyone loves. :)

I'm going to miss out the guy who wants LEGO to open a Disney Land in Japan, the few projects which just have a word as the photo with no bricks or description at all, the projects that just have a single minifig, and the project which appears to be a green 32x32 baseplate. Rather, I'm going to concentrate purely on projects that have actual designs (if you can call some of them that).

    So without further ado...

I'm wondering whether to start an occasional 'Bad CUUSOO projects' blog. I've just seen two projects that would easily have made the top 5 of my top 10 above. How I didn't spot them the other day I've no idea...

Making a list of the ten worst Cuusoo projects is easier than making a list of the ten best because it's hard to find that many which wouldn't make the first list instead.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ i would say 10 best is easier because there are only so many decent projects up. Picking the 10 best out of the 20 decent is easier than the 10 worst out of hundreds of crap projects. Finding candidates for the worst is easy but narrowing down crap into the worst crap would take some time.

^ I would tend to agree, which is one of the reasons I stopped looking at the site long ago. Now, I probably have a more narrow definition of what is a "good Cuusoo project", which is why there are few or none in my view:

anything over approximately 750 pieces: OUT
anything related to a current LEGO license: OUT
anything related to a current license belonging to LEGO competitor: OUT
anything related to an obscure and/or dead IP: OUT
anything related to an IP that LEGO is unlikely to do: OUT
anything that is presented as a theme instead of a single set: OUT

    That doesn't leave much
